I just got an 03 Nomad. It’s been sitting for years and I’m trying to clean it up and get it to crank. It turns over when I put fuel straight into the carb but even with the new pump and filter it doesn’t wanna kick over. It’s a fun hobby for sure, thanks for the video. Even with the differences it’s helpful.

Thanks, I'm actually looking for one myself now. The wife and I been riding a VFR 800 for years, and we are getting older. It's getting harder to ride for hours bent over. The VN1500 is a big capable bike, that doesn't really feel like it is. They don't feel heavy, well balanced. Thanks for watching and commenting 🐲
@@thedragon2299 the weight is low down and easy to balance 😎👍 I’ve got an ex ambulance ST1300 Honda at the moment which is really top heavy .. don’t feel the weight when moving but you need to be built like the hulk to move it by hand on gravel 😂 Wish I could share photos on here but the VN I customised looked great but I ruined the comfort 😂👍

First thing would be to change the spark plugs, and as you are doing that, you can look at the plugs themselves and it will tell you how the engine is running. If they are black and sooty it's rich getting too much fuel, if they are light gray or white looking then it is running lean and not getting enough fuel, or also could be getting too much air, like and intake leak or something. Your condition sounds like fuel starvation. First change spark plugs to see what happens.
Hey, I have a 1500 classic. Do you know where the vacuum hose on the back side from the carburetor on top get connected? My bike is reving the hole time to 2000rpm and stay there. I buyed a rebuild kit and wait that it get delivered.
Not sure which hose you are talking about, but most hoses on a carburetor are for venting or draining, not vacuum, so be careful. Look up a diagram for your bike and it will show you what hose runs where. Good luck on it.
@@footstepproduction9224 I'm not sure what your situation is, and why it's not hooked up, you should see a line nearby that needs hooked up. That vacuum line normally goes to the air switch valve, which is part of the fuel evap system that routes fuel vapors into the engine while your bike is not running. Basically emissions crap. If you search diagrams on this part, you will see the valve I'm talking about, it should have some larger hoses hooked to it also. But search the air switch valve and you will see a picture of it, then you will know what it looks like so you can hook the hose to it. On some models and alot of other bikes, that vacuum will sometimes go to the vacuum petcock on the fuel tank, but usually not on bikes with fuel pumps.
I wanna say thank you. Little story to me. I took the engine out to replace the camshaft plugs. They are leaking oil. When I fit everything togheter, the bike runs right and stayed at 2000 rpm and had really problems to start. Now I found the hose from the air switch valve and connected it to the carb. And now it runs like new. Thank you so much.
where did you get the carb rebuild kit? I have a 1996 1500 classic and I can't find a complete kit with the diaphragms like you have. I found a kit on amazon but it it says its for a 2000-2004. do you think that kit would work on mine? the parts books say the diaphragms in the 2000 is a different part number than the 1996, but I can't imagine they'd be different.
I will have to see if I can find where I got it, I have done 50 bikes since this one, so I don't know off the top of my head, I do know that in 2000 they changed to fuel injection. Ok if you could find out where that came from that would be awesome. From my research 2000 was the first year fuel injection was an operation. I think you could still get carbureted ones till 2004
@Joe Tomandl yes the kit actually said 1995-2006, but what I find when it has a broad range like that is some parts don't fit. If you go to the diagram I sent you and search the individual part numbers, it will assure you get the right parts. Good luck with it. I feel your pain because I do this on a daily basis and have a helluva time getting the right parts these days. 🐲
Yes sir. Had to order the needle valve and seat separately. Done all jets and accelerator pump also. And of course gaskets. It runs perfect for 1-2 minutes then floods its self. I’m so irritated with it.
@MEAN-STREAK Apparently something isn't right and you need to make it right, if it's leaking out of the over flow, and flooding the engine then the float height is not right or the needle is not seating, sometimes after a rebuild the needle sticks and you have to tap lightly on the bowl for it to seat. Where is it leaking from?
