finally!!!!! i have been stuck on this STUPID 2000s gm for a week. i tested everey relay, i checked the wiring, i spun the fans over with a jumper wire but just could not find the issue. reminds me of 80s hondas, the coolant temp sensor would fail and cause the engine to surge up and down at idle.
It’s also a possibility that the PCM isn’t grounding the circuit for the cooling fans. I had a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero that had the same problem, the fans worked great with the A/C on. But with the A/C off the engine would slowly get hotter and hotter if I wasn’t driving down the highway. I chatted with a specialist online and we both concluded the PCM driver inside the cars computer wasn’t working anymore. The reason the cooling fans come on when the A/C is ON is because there is a separate control circuit that commands the fans to come on because they are required for the AC to work correctly.
Dude thank you so much! After replacing the thermostat I noticed the fans were infact never turning on. You made this mess soooo much better. Seriously thank you so much
What they're not telling you is the speed sensor can also cause your fans not to run is the wires are screwed up and don't pass the test there's your problem he can keep both of your fans from working
Im having the same problem. My last attempt is probably the cheapest and i have 1 relay that doesn't have a match that I can swap to check it. So im going to try that. Any advice?
@@ryanrespess6272 hi, My issue ended up being the wiring to fan 1 was backwards..... that was just 1 of the many electrical fixes I had on this thing after I bought it.
@@d34thztorm i appreciate the feedback. Im liking the car so far but these grand ams have some of the weirdest issues. Not to mention some are crazy stupid easy fixes that one would never have thought of if it wasn't for youtube. Such as resetting the security system because the car just "stopped running completely" for no apparent reason. Figured out that trick after I had replaced the ignition, starter, battery, etc. Then found out all i had to do is keep the key in the on position not turned over for 10 min. Cut off for 10 sec and repeat. Then the damned thing cranked right up. I was happy but pissed at the same time. Oh well, got spare parts now. Lol
NO!!! Your wrong ma'am cuz it can still be your ac Cooling fan switch. You saw someone do this trick and wanted to act like you knew something, but you don't even know the name and model on your own video bro. You know anything at all and certainly aren't a mechanic. Look at those supple hands you got hell they look like a womans hands after a manicure lol quit posting stuff u don't understand please. People like you that mess other people up. Moron. G'day m'lady
Very useful videos. Thanks. Gotta ? How to get 2004 BMW 525i active steering to disengage also what could cause to randomly blow a huge cloud of smoke out tail pipe its light Grey in color and now running thru oil?? Is it the gasket seal on oil pan maybe
You need a mechanic before it costs way more. You're probably burning a combination of oil and antifreeze along with the fuel. Head gasket. On active steering, I believe it has to be hooked up to a machine. Take it from a 30 year ase parts tech, there's a way of doing things right. This video is wrong and will lead to other repairs. When we try to cut corners or rig things, it will bite one's ass later.
i did this and the fan kicked on, so i replaced the sensor. i noticed i'm still getting up to about 215 on the temp gauge with no fans kicking on. it's cold so i don't think i'll hit 220 until at least next spring. should they be kicking on before it reaches that temp?
One that engine has a rod knock unrelated but the fans came on cause the pcm thinks the sensor reading a high temp. When you unplug the sensor the computer can’t see the reading and thinks the engine overheating and turns the fans on full blast. The sensor is your issue
@@fuckyou96 not quite. Mine has new fans that run with ac on, but not any other time. Has a new temp switch, 2nd new one, new relays. Next to replace is ac cycling switch. If that doesn't get it, I'm gonna junk it and get drunk. Peace.
