One of my fondest memories as a fireman was relieving at Klipplaat in 1958. Fired to Oudtshoorn on a 19D number 3340 and returned the following day on the Cape Town to Port Elizabeth express passenger train, a trip to remember.
People don’t understand how massive the Class 19 is in person. We made REALLY big engines compared to the gauge they were made for. I wonder how many of those engines on the side are either going to be restored or scrapped🤔
This brought back happy memories of a time long ago when I visited there and rode on the footplate to the coaling stage to take on coal and then shunt the Rovos train into the station.
@@earthfirechannel Great! I don't suppose it will include footage of a train going up the coal stage? That seems to be the Holy Grail of train footage!
