Another great video. The attention to detail is sublime. I took my Transit Custom to Mike for it's wet belt replacement after seeing his video on those as the quality of work was second to none and the price was very competitive.
Love the commentary, love the systematic way you disassemble and reassemble stuff plus your intricate knowledge of these wretched Fords. You have obviously done a few and if i still had mine (i ditched it before 25K when i realised the wet belt issue) i would definitely got you to do it as i have no Milwaukee tools.😅 An absolute top job. 👏👏👏
Top work Mike, just had these belts done on our Fiesta zs didn't have the luxury of the torque multiplier.. took a 4ft bar 😮to get the crank pulley bolt out and to do the new one up ...
Great video, one thing to mention, as well as cleaning the oil pump strainer its also worth doing the turbo and vac pump strainers as these get clogged with the belt debris.
That's a lot of work for a belt change.... And a good few tools and knowledge.... You certainly know your way around Ford stuff, well done fella. Oi Milwaukie!.... Best you notice this bloke 😂😂
And can fail just as quick, I just don't understand why the bolt has to be that tight ford build loads of engine with no key way and they where never that tight they are just assholes
@@johncoldwell340 Aye, but I've never ever known timing chains that needed replacing after every 50k miles. Anything can fail. That's not my point. This only has 28k on the clock. And TCs usually give plenty of warning, but by then you're up in the 200k - 300k mile range. This is a critically important part of the engine, and it is failing, or starting to after only a few 10's of thousands of miles. And just the sheer amount of work required to change one! Wow unbelievable ...I'd rate this about as complicated as dropping the transmsission on my van. That was a bear of a job. It's ok if you're a mech working on these...nice little earner but for the home mechanic... And not having a keyed crankshaft, yeah that is just plain stupid requiring even more work and specialist tools. Ford should immediately begin working on a timing chain conversion kit for these lumps. Peugeot/Stellantis have a similar design and they are having the same issues. A rubber band dipping into hot engine oil contaminated with diesel or gas, what could possibly go wrong.
@@sneezyferret6482 me either till I had to put a chain on a low mileage qashqai 1.2 digT and when I stripped it down to do it had already a BGA chain kit on it
Hi Thanks for the dimensions of the friction washer. I have a question about this washer : no risk of misalignment of the belt on the pulley due to the thickness of the washer ?
Great video thanks...that mileage is exactly why the belt looks like that...the car has only been doing 416 miles per month average. That is way too little...Me Ecoboost I getting it's wet belt replaced and it's on 106k miles now. Engines are designed to move, work and operate. Leave them standing or drive them to the corner store and back and you muck up everything.
I hope whoever thought up this idea got sacked. If it was a chain you could accept the graft but not for something that going to be considered a liability 🙈
@@ignitionadvantages6592 not forgot.. me car got crashed into while parked ..awaiting the 3rd shit repair by the shit approved garage they sent me too, cars in worse condition now than the accident created. so the belt is on hold.
I replaced my 205 GTI timing belt last year, took me 45 minutes, how times have changed, either a timing chain or dry timing belt, rubber belts and oil don't mix.
@@ignitionadvantages6592 Well that's not too bad considering i was quoted £750 and £675 from two garages to do a clutch on a Corsa D 1.0 for my other half.
They have revised the belts but still wouldn’t trust them! I’m sure they are been taken to court about it all.. The PSA engine isn’t much better either ant that’s fitted to lots of Citroen, Peugeot and vauxhalls 🤦🏼♂️ they do the exact same thing 🙃
NO they are easy to do just a bit fiddly as you are working through holes in side of engine TAKE the sump off and clean out AND the strainer Then change oil every 5000 miles after - as it is the acid in the oil that breaks down the rubber Even doing the above I would change belt every 25-30,000 or 4 years ! There are 2 timing kits depending on year PRE 2018 - Type this number into e bay 404846577282 AFTER 2018 Type this number into e bay 404844411663 Hunt about you can get the tools cheap now
Does the manufacturer pay for the expenses associated with this manufacturer's mistake? It should hurt to be stupid. What would this cost in U.S. dollars? I can just imagine the sales person explaining the virtues of the Wet Belt technology to the prospective buyer 😅
Be loads of these in the scrappers soon when they get to 11/12 yrs whos going to pay £1k for a timing belt or an engine if the pick up strainer gets blocked and kills the engine
Exactly that's why they used the belts and made changing it as hard as they could, they don't want 10 plus year old cars still on the road, they want you to buy a new one, but why would you if you had a bad experience in the first place, they will lose their customer base, when people decide they want a more reliable car that doesn't cost £1200 to change a timing belt at 30k miles.
Get a new car.😂 This is a failed technology. The companies made this so you have to go to them to service your car. This is like with the new video games or Netflix where you no longer own anything anymore.
