It's interesting to see you posting on Joe's video because I started watching you for all the sport bike stuff. Ironically, THE TWO FASTEST RIDERS I've seen on the street were two old dudes in flight suits on BMW sport tourers/grand tourers. All I know is they had boxes on the back and big ass screens on the front. This was 2010 so all the usual liter bikes were represented and even all us bitches on smaller bikes who wasted money because you could learn on a 1000. 😂 Actually our group was pretty cool and took care of us. Anyway, we chatted them up and they asked if we ride here regularly because they've never us. Really cool guys. The BMW guys asked if we wanted a tow up the mountain. Mind you the liter bike guys were all combinations of VERY FAST street riders/track day riders/pro-am racers(Some of them rode with slicks and take-offs on the street) They sarcastically accepted the old timers offer and we waited while they packed their boxes. We start off doing our MotoGP weaving to warm up our tires while the older gents were just ahead of us chatting it up. We hit turns 1,2,3,4,5,6, hit the apex of the 7th turn and the old timers were gone. The liter bikes immediately took off which left us 750/600 riders with one pissed off sweeper on an R1 who didn't even know he was sweeping that day. He told us to "take your time, work on your lines, and I'll come back for y'all." We're doing our thing and eventually catch up to the liter bikes and continue up the mountain. Guess who we see at the top of the mountain with their flighsuits halfway zipped, side boxes open, eating snacks, and smoking cigars: The old timers. "Well gotdamn. What happened? We thought y'all come here all the time. We were just cruising." They were like 62 and 60. They told us sportbikes were a no-go at their age, trikes weren't even bikes(they said some funny shit about trikes I can't remember), and that they basically wanted something they could could ride "quickly" when needed. 😂 Yeah, sure. Oh yeah, they used to ride track, but it was expensive and they got tired of riding in circles all day. Riding mountain roads was like riding a new track every ride. Before that introduction I thought BMW motorcycles, besides the S1000RR, were bikes for dudes who wore suits to work and cruised the countryside taking pictures. Be careful out there Baron, Jason Statham, and Joe. Oh I and still ride too. By myself or with vetted riders.

Joe you're killing me - we have matching M3 Tourings (Dravit Grey with Silverstone interior) and now you have bought the same bike !! We are twins from different continents! You will love the 1250 mate - I have had mine 2 years and they are AMAZING. Went the GSA as I live in Australia so our trips are a little longer than UK so needed the bigger fuel tank. Enjoy and welcome to the Motorrad family !!!!

Joe, one thing to keep in mind on that GS is that your front and rear brakes are tethered, when your front brake lever in used, it drags the rear brake. However when you press down on the rear brake, the front brake is not applied. Get into the habit of using your front brakes just about all of the time. The only time you'd only use the rear brake would be if you blow a corner off the tarmac onto slick grass, stand the bike up then you'd apply the rear brake.

Self cancelling indicators Joe on the GS 👍, another tip, cancelling the cruise control you can counter - rotate the throttle i.e apply pressure forwards and it knocks it off, saves dabbing the brake to knock it off .. enjoy pal 👍

Nice to see from a bike rider perspective and promoting a safe approach. Sadly too many road users, whatever they are on/in, seem to think they are indestructible, that everyone has seen them or that they have priority over everyone else. If you show a little patience, we all get home safely. Also, if you wait a few seconds there is more of a gap to accelerate into 😀

Loved the video. I'm 61, Iive in Australia. Currently own 21 harley heritage. My wife and I took a 23 gsa for a ride yesterday,& loved it. Everything on the gsa was so different & would take a little while to get use to it. You're right, sitting up high was great, & visibility was excellent. Found the gear lever too low, having to tuck my toe low underneath to change gear. I know this is only an adjustment... So, will be selling the harley shortly & buying a 23 gsa r1250 trippleblack! Look forward to seeing more videos! 🤗

Having owned two 125 Trail bikes and having access to a Kawasaka 420 Scrambler in my younger days I always aspired to having a big Dakar style bike but realised cars are a lot safer after commuting one day and seeing a guy I passed every morning and acknowledged lying under a car and as I spent 7 weeks in traction in hospital after going under a car on my push bike at the age of nine something clicked and my biking career was over. I have recently got into eMTB's and love it which takes me back a little way to off roading on trail bikes but now in near silence. I can now follow you on your biking travels in safety at home. Ride safe.

Spot on choice the GS Joe, within the 1st 6 month's of getting mine I decided to try the GS on some easy off road touring with Toro Adventure in Spain. It's a great way to expand your knowledge & skills & familiarise the way the GS is off the asphalt. Toro Adventure do different courses/touring & use the GS1250 HP so don't worry you don't have to use your bike! Europe is having a dry spell at the minute but the routes we did were I'd say beginner level anyway. Enjoy your time on the GS, awesome machine. Daz

Joe happy for you! Petrol 4 wheels and pedal 2 wheels is more me but I do like motorbikes and have always said I know I need to avoid them lol. I remember yeas back when BMW wanted to show brake lights when decelerating purely off the accelerator and I know bikes decelerate quickly but also it means the person behind you is likely too close to need to see a “deceleration light” lol. I hear you on por holes, they are shocking more times on B roads, they can ruin a nice time out. Enjoy the GS and look forward to the varied content

Please let BMW know that if they have another one kicking around I will gladly ride one around and review it for them. This morning I rode out over the Peak District for a few hours and then went out again this afternoon over into Wales and back. Once you get the buzz there’s nothing like it. There certainly isn’t a brand new car at 17k that can put a smile on your face like that bike will. Enjoy the summer.

Sometimes I want an Africa Twin because I’m lazy and want the DCT. Sometimes I want a multistrada because it’s a rocket. Then I go look st my 1250gs and I just can’t trade it. It’s the perfect mix of fast enough and comfort. My wife rides behind me and she says she sees people breaking their necks to stare at it. It’s the adventure so it’s massive overall. I haven’t regretted it but around towns it’s not the best. It loves the highway miles and fire roads.

Good choice of bike - I have exactly the same one!😀 You mentioned doing a day of advanced training, but I would urge you to pursue either the IAM Roadsmart or the RoSPA courses. Both are based on “Motorcycle Roadcraft The Police Rider’s Handbook” and will make you a faster, smoother, safer and more confident rider. If you have ever followed a bike cop and marvelled at how they cover ground so quickly and (apparently) so effortlessly, then now’s a good time to find out. 👍
