The competitors are giving their everything! The rivals are getting stronger all the time! Nevertheless, the BMW R 1250 GS remains the bestseller among all motorcycles. Why? Here are five reasons that explain the success of the GS!
2022 GSA Rallye. I looked at the rest of the competition and all the points in the video put me on the GSA. I don’t care at all what anyone else in this “segment” thinks about what a proper ADV bike is. I will be mostly on the road and bought it for multi week touring. It’s the best all-around traveling companion out there for almost any kind of adventure.
Recently bought my 3 rd GS, a 1250 Rallye. Probably my 23rd, maybe 24th (lost count) motorcycle owned, but the BMW is the only model I keep coming back to. Speaks volumes.
Ha !!! .... . You're "preaching to the converted " ( a English saying ). At nearly 72, last year I sold the ZX10R I'd had for 14 years, and 40,000 miles later. And don't let people tell you,you can't tour on a sports bike. However, after 30 years on sports bikes, and touring all over the UK n Europe, I needed a new challenge. Enter my friend on an 06 oilhead ! Two months later I had an 07 GS myself. A Low Tech, NoTech version, true to the original concept, not even ABS. I love it ! Is it old yeah, is it under powered yeah, a bit. Would I like a newer one, maybe but for me, there's way too much unnecessary technology on the later ones . Great video, great selling job.... But with 5 other BWM cars in the house, you're preaching to the already Converted 👍😂😂👍 Danka shun Roj
I've had my GSA for 3 weeks now, and have put on 800 miles (1300KM) in that time. Being honest I'm still not really in love with it. I moved from a KTM 1290 Super Adventure, and I honestly miss the power and torque of that engine. The GS is quick enough, but it isn't fast, and i find that i don't overtake like i used to because im not 100% sure i'll pass quickly enough.
95% or more of the vehicles on the road or even on highways are not super cars or super bikes. What is your fear to overtake? I really don’t see the problem there. The BMW GS or GSA are perfectly capable to overtake the generality of other user of the roads…So, I keep on asking, what is there so difficult to do? If you have that feeling, please test drive the BMW S1000 XR, and I can assure that no one try’s to overtake you. I personally verified that ✅ Even with my BMW 1250 RT I could easily do high standard speeds and no one usually gets to overtake me. I don’t do it often but I’ve done that on distances of 200-300 kms and I was always overtaking every kind of car or bike in my way and none went in pursuit or trying to go faster. I was doing only 170/180 kms per hour. Everything went well and very safe.😎✌️✌️
I completely agree! The sportiness of the GS, you can’t get with the GSA. Leaning into the corners like a sports bike and much more manageable off road. For these reasons, I don’t mind stopping for fuel more often. (For the majority of us who don’t cross continents on the GS).
I can't see how the GS can be a successful bike at all LOL, I still ride my R80G/S, built in 1980....such a nice bike the GS is even though she has gained a bit of weight in 40 years....
I tell you why it is number 1: It created its own market niche for the baby boomers that won't want to be caught dead on a chromed-up HD wearing chaps and ponytails and look ridiculous on a crotch rocket. Being one of boomers raised on motorcycles myself, BMW is the Mercedez that combine technologies, luxury, and performance that no one offered at the time It's the SUV for soccer moms don't want to drive a mini van. And the engine is phenominal too.
If you think the GSA is a better bike than the GS then you have called it wrong. I have owned seven GS,s five GS,s two GSA’s love em both. If one suits you better than the other that’s the one for you! But if you ride around feeling superior on your GSA over a GS..have a word.
Thanks for bringing up the reliability! the 1250gs is a class leader for performance and comfort but what about cost of ownership? BMW is consistently ranked as the least reliable motorcycle brand.
Engine, wind protection, ergonomics - all perfect. But that clonky gearbox is a no go for me, especally for that price. And the rear suspension (compared to the superb front) is not fitting at all. I guess shaft drive and boxer engine cranking in the length axis are responsible for these 2 problems. Otherwise this would be a perfect bike.
Hold on a sec. When I watch vids on the new Pan American, I see all the Harley die hards claiming it's the number 1 selling adventure bike. What gives???
