Enjoy the 86/22 - 1986 Honda 250cc
A few months ago I was in NY doing a school and was talking to my friends about racing and saying I didn’t really enjoy the part of having to win, be fast and fit. I wish I could find a way to have fun. So after a few beers they say, “Well, why don’t you race the 86?” After a few more beers it sounded like a amazing idea. haha!
So my friends worked so hard to get the bike together and trick as hell!
The first time I rode this bike was in practice yesterday - but some important parts where still in the air (suspension - pipe - silencer) so we had to steal parts off the parts bike. So going into practice I had no back brake. I knew that because we got the bike together 10min before practice. The suspension has never been touched since production, carb tubs where pinched, wrong gearing, wrong clutch springs.
So that was the hardest time I have ever had on a bike! Haha! It wore my ass out ! But did all the jumps and rode not to bad, considering.
So today we made all the changes - suspension - pipe - silencer and more. It took a little to figure out the way to flow and how the bike works and handles, but once I did a few laps I started to feel pretty good on it. I have to ride it more like a 500cc - more roll - less brake - still can be aggressive with the gas - have to be more patient to keep constant momentum.
We got it running good then at the end we huge a ring and it seized! So now we are trying to get it back together and might have to use stock motor parts.
First race tmrw 10am so we will see what happens.
I love a challenge and the unknown - being in that mind set brings me to life and I enjoy it so this is why I did this, even with 3 days of stuggle we are having so much fun! I also love to figure out how to ride a motorcycle I have never riden before or a bike that works way different than what your used to. It’s amazing the focus that comes out, the change of technique, change of approach into sections and figuring out how to set the bike up is another enjoyment !
Doing the same thing, riding the same bike, and always having to race to win at my age seems a little boring and uninteresting.
