@@RightManWrongPlace It is from the special era of early Opeth. More black metal-ish. It is certainly a special era and one that isn't very enjoyed by everyone. What makes this song so good is the calm section for one, I think. I enjoy the studio version more though, sounds "colder". But Morningrise has a very raw production and I understand why peopl don't like it a lot.
It's great to see Opeth again here. I do realize you have to do other reactions though. I do love it when you do 'live' Opeth reactions. Looking forward to the next one. 👍🏻
My 2 favourite parts of this video: 7:57 "That really crisp clean snare sound, just penetrating the relative silence." Damn that's one hell of a quote and I love it. 13:29 *casual sips from the covfefe mug*
I like this track a lot but the studio version is much better imo. The part after 14:25 always remind me of Fargo for some reason. Almost all Opeth fans seem to agree The Roundhouse Tapes is their best live performance but I never quite liked Mikaels Growls around those days (I think this is from 2006). Never managed to put my finger on why, just sounds strange to me, but then I read somewhere he himself isn't too happy about them either, reason being he used to have in ear plugs and didn´t hear his own vocals in the latter part of the first decade 2005-2010 ish. I´m in the very small minority though because I read all the time about people praising his growls back then. I think he sounds much better nowadays. Anyways, nice reaction. Always nice to see more Opeth. A really great older live song from the same Album would be Advent from Royal Albert Hall in UHD 4k.
Thanks for the insights, and the other suggestion! I am just happy to keep exploring. The vocals didn't bother me or anything here--I was too focused on the song structure.
Thanks so much! I drove to Nevada for a business conference and did some sightseeing along the way. Took a selfie in 40 mph winds that blew my hair back, people loved it...so here we are. Hahahaha
Morningrise is one of my personal least favorites from the band, but that's not to say there's anything bad about it... in fact I'd say "Advent" and "To Bid You Farewell" (opener and closer of the album) are some of their best pieces ever
This song is kinda mid (for being Opeth) in my opinion. I fucking ADORE "Demon of the fall" from this live performance though (last song of this concert), absolutely insane! It´s one of those that I rather listen to live on Spotify as well, and that´s kinda rare with Opeth due to their amazing studio productions.
