I'm sure if you needed life saving emergency surgery you'd want the best most qualified person performing it instead of someone who is there because they 'check all the boxes.' The NBA players are made up of approximately 80% blacks yet are only 15% of the population. Should that be changed so that the NBA players consist of 15% blacks? Would that be right? For me absolutely not because it would result in bad product. The NBA rosters are made up of the best most qualified players. That is meritocracy at its finest. You're probably a person who believes in participation trophys. We just had an excellent Superbowl. Do you think the players and coaches would strive so hard to be able to hoist that Lombardi trophy if at the end of it all EVERY team instead received the identical participation trophy?

Janey was not elected mayor. She was an appointed to be an interim mayor until a new mayor could be elected. Asian Americans are people of color, since they are not white. It is titled correctly.

after doing research, Kim Janey was not elected to be the first black woman of color. She was acting mayor who got the job after Marty Walsh resigned to become secretary of labor. Michelle Wu was elected by the people of Boston (which is what they've mentioned in the title of the video by adding the word "elected").

Obviously, she is of Asian ancestry so it does make her a person of color. You're so used to hearing about a person of color being a black-American or a hispanic-American that you've forgotten the other minority called Asian-Americans. The Democrat party of the United States considers anybody who is not of at least 99% pure European Aryan ancestry to be a "person of color". They are very specific about their labels and where their constituents fit into the hierarchy of oppression.

It's important for kids build their perspectives on their own ethnic-racial group, as well as that of others. Exposure to negative representations can also negatively affect children's future professional aspirations and undermine their sense of self. Representation can also reduce negative stereotype about other groups. furthermore, representation in government can participate in the shaping of legislation and policy that improve the lives of those that share similar social struggles. So no, maybe it doesn't matter to some people but it sure does for most young minorities.
