We love to get outside and explore Minnesota and Wisconsin on our bikes! With all the COVID lock-downs this year - biking in the US and around the globe has exploded in popularity! We've had a few different bike racks to transport our bikes over the years but bit the bullet and bought the most expensive one we've ever purchased. With the back-orders it took over 40 days to get the rack and it cost nearly $600. Was it worth it? Follow along here as we unbox it, set it up, get it mounted on the car and test it. We're kind of "indoorsy" in the winter in MN so we also built a hanger for the rack in the garage to store it for the remainder of the winter.

Just got mine this week because my wife's e-bike was a little too long and heavy for my old Kuat Transfer V2. What a slick rack and beefy. Works great. I love it.

@@PictureTime The super duty madel will hold 50-75lbs on each platform and of expanded to 4 platforms I believe it's 50lbs per platform.

Don't forget the official 1Up USA bottle opener accessory that bolts to the rack...instant respect during after-ride beers! A friend steered me to 1Up last year, glad they did - best rack money can buy. We went for the Equip-D Double w/ 2 Add-Ons. Nice video...

I’m probably going to get this rack. Was originally wanting the Kuat NV but after my brother and I used his, I don’t like how it clamps onto my caliper brakes. My road bike doesn’t have disk brakes. This seems like the best option for me. And it can fold up into my small garage.

I’m 100% positive this rack was my first and last rack I’ll ever buy. Also if something stupid does happen every part is available for replacement through 1up.

Yep, their customer service is excellent. I was missing a bolt years ago and they shipped out a replacement immediately, no questions asked. Recently I had one of the lever some loose after almost 8 years and they expedited the replacement part immediately just based on a pic I sent them. Truly impressive.

Nice video! Thank you! We live in Alaska and spend 1/2 the year fat biking. We recently ordered a 1 Up and were very disappointed at how hard it was to operate. The levers are very stiff and sharp metal on your hand. Pulling on the lever that raises and lowers the rack hurts my hands. With any amount of dirt or water on the rack the track/slides squeak loudly and are difficult to move. The handles for releasing mechanisms need to be MUCH more ergonomic/rubber to be easy to hold and able to endure the shock of the release into your hand. We are returning it and going back to Thule or Kuat. Also, if you have studs on your snowbike it scrapes the black paint off of the rack. All of my friends that have 1 Up racks have scratched paint if they purchased black.

Too bad to hear about your experiences, bummer. I have a Kuat NV, and will be upgrading to their new rack coming out this spring, the Liston Pro X. You should check it out, but I’m not sure when it will truly be available. 1 Up built their rack based on some features from Kuat, but improved. The Piston Pro X is returning the favor and is now able to easily handle fat bikes, up to 5” wide tires actually. Good luck my friend!

I'm still researching. I did notice all the sharp angles of this design. It would be simple to round off all the sharp edges but would increase to cost or time if I "DYI"ed it. I was also surprised at the tiny diameter locking hitch pin.

That design limits some people because of people that might have rear fenders. I looked at my bike and I could never use this design just because of that. That’s why I like the one strap in the rear around the rim and the ratchet to the tire in front.

The lock you're using as a hitch lock... isn't it actually a wheel lock to make sure your bike can't be taken off the rack? That's what those holes aligned on each arm are for I believe. I got rear -ended and am in the market for a new rack (luckily no bikes were damaged)... this one is definitely a contender!!

My cousin and I have the same rack. It’s a nice bike rack, but we noticed we could use that my cousin’s coupler key could unlock my coupler lock. Did you know about this?

After weeks of research I decided to go with the VelociRax. While 1up is good for up to 4 bikes, if you need more I would recommend checking out the VelociRax.

Great video, good review and content. I currently have a Kuat NV and it’s worked great the past 10 years, but will be upgrading to their new rack coming out spring ‘22, the Piston Pro X. It’s not cheap, but if you ride a lot with your family you might find it worth the price. I’ve seen a lot of 1 Up racks out there too, both are pretty good. (Oh, nice 4Runner! Looks just like mine 😎)

The Kuat NV 2.0 is more impressive and modular. I had been looking at reviews before I purchased it and it's probably why this video was recommended to me. I watched out of curiosity, but the NV 2.0 is the best rack I've ever seen.

Yes. The NV is also a great rack! I debated between the two and am happy with my purchase but the Kuat is a nice setup. I like the built in bike mount for field maintenance on the Kuat.

My 1up rack folds up to size of shoes box and fits in my trunk. They kuat was too bulky and didn’t like way front wheel locked.

Great video. And also a new customer of the same bike rack. One fits my electric fat bike and the other regular fit for the wife’s bike. Yes, the bike rack is off the hook. Finally, I can say you get what you pay for. There is nothing else out there that matches this bike rack. Happy biking. Live here in De so most bike riding we do are at the state parks along the beach.

Good review. The tilt handle appears to be designed poorly. If one wanted to tilt the rack down when all the bikes on on there, it doesn't look like you can reach the tilt handle below, especially if you have short arms and your head will bump into the bikes.

Put the key in, and then twist the knurled knob to screw it onto the lock end.

A number of folks have asked this. Anyone else tried? I don’t have fenders on my bikes and I don’t work for 1Up. The bikes are held secure by pressure on the tires. Perhaps a bracket or pad could be installed to prevent damage to fenders. Thanks for watching!

@@andrewscasualmtb who cares… when it addresses EVERY shortcoming of the 1UP and does absolutely everything better. Plus it had a license plate extender and a heavy duty ramp (built-in). The big problem is the Mach 2’s availability. They’ve got production capacity concerns they need to fix. Did I mention they need NO TOOLS ?

I’ve got the 1.25” version that I bought approximately 7-8 years ago. Wipe it down and it still looks and works like new. I have driven to Yosemite approximately 400 miles away with an older Schwinn beach cruiser w/ a Thule baby seat attached and a smaller kids bike that also weighs a ton and never has any issues. Absolutely no issues traveling down the freeway traveling at the legal posted speed limit 😉.

The arms come far enough together to keep the bike secure. It may wobble a bit with a flat but it should hold.

I just checked Kuat online. Kuat actually has more bells and whistles and the finish is second to none but you better sit down before you read my next sentence. The Kuat double fir 2 bikes is $1,400 USD. That's fuggin nuts ain't it?

Wait for the police to stop you one day cause they can’t read your license plate. I got a $700 dollar ticket and had to pay in court. I lost my case. I had to return the 1up rack and got a full refund but lost $700 dollars in fines. That’s horrible!! I hope you don’t go through what happened to me
