The Cartune Company (2003) Ltd in New Zealand does 1uz and 3uz conversions / parts and wiring. We have been working on UZ Toyota V8 engines since 2004 when we did our own Hiace van to transport dirtbikes around NZ. Since then we have swapped to doing mainly just Lexus V8 work from a family owned farm hidden away in our paradise , surrounded by the NZ native bush. We sell parts and simple to follow wiring instructions for the 1uzfe engines. For enquiries email info@thecartunecompany.co.nz Take Care. Kelvin

I love your way of thinking. Preventive maintenance is so important and worth the time, 100 fold. My UCF20 has 359,754 miles on her and still purrs like a kitten.

Anything a 1 uz is planted in to especially the first generations 1uz and my god you turbo it, anything that engine goes in is magic and the engine It’s self is amazing so easy to look after compared to an equivalent German engine and it’s build quality is in a league of its own everything from the deck design to the bracing girdles inspired from jgtc where this engine was originally intended for

This was gold, and sums up exactly my thoughts when people swap engines and don't check them over, or claim an engine is good or bad based on the stock rods/pistons capability. If you are putting any engine into a project just open the damn thing up and make sure its healthy! People often spend thousands on an engine swap and skimp on the most important bits >_< A mate swapped an engine into his car, got it dynoed and then it spun the big ends and couldn't work out why. Had he got any sort of oil pressure sensor? Of course not...

I have a 2006 Lexus SC430 with the 3UZ 4.3 V8, and I pulled apart an extra 3UZ from my parts car (very disappointed when I saw the skimpy 3UZ rods) that was unfortunately totaled 6 years ago and I am currently looking to build it up. There is someone over here that used a 2UZ block that they had re-sleeved with a Tundra crank and different rods and pistons and its displacing 5.2 liters now. I believe they used the 2UZ since its iron which makes sense. There is not much wiggle room on the 3UZ block to go oversize with the pistons, so I am looking to build up a short block as mentioned, and using 3UZ ported/polished heads with larger valves, bumpier cams, and honed intake manifold and modded throttle body. I want the engine to last since this is going to cost several thousand to do it properly with all forged internals, so Ill aim for a 4.7 if a 5.0 or 5.2 is pushing it since I am planning in the future to add a turbo with maybe 8-10lbs at the most. I am very curious what this engine will put out while NA - I am thinking it will be up from 300hp - 325lb torque to over 400hp if this is done properly and easily 500 plus with the turbo. I have the 6 speed auto which does not hold up well past 400hp, so I need to find a reputable person/shop that knows how to build up this transmission to handle the power. This car is just for enjoyment so I have other cars for daily driving, but I also need to figure out how to get past smog when I do this, which in CA can be very tough to do! In the mean time with my SC430 I am getting a tuned ECU for my SC430 here in California which makes a huge difference without even adding power and gets rid of the throttle lag, and I have a Lextreme 2800 stall converter I am installing soon with an external trans cooler, and adding headers to the mix little later this year. Apparently the converter alone allows the car to really spin the rear wheels when it was not able to when stock. I am figuring this should get me by and I can enjoy it over the next 1.5 - 2 years while building up the extra engine, taking the time to make sure everything is done properly. The current engine in the car only has 106,000 miles so its in decent shape and will hold up in the mean time. Have you worked with any stroker setups for the 1UZ, 2UZ, 3UZ engines before? There is a guy who is local that did a 5.2 but he hasnt gotten back to me to confirm all the parts he used to make it a 5.2, and he just told me it was a 2UZ block with tundra crank and he did not recall of the top of his head the rods and pistons used. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5gBmCi6WRvA.html&ab_channel=Lextremely

Found a 93’ ls400 here in the US, complete factory 1uz 279k, the only reason I’m still thinking about buying this engine is it’s a Toyota engine. Going to tear down this 1uz to freshen it up and put it in my 84’ Hilux, ironic how both of those topics were both mentioned in this video.

I have a 1992 LS400 that still looks great but needs all the rubber bits and plastics wiring clips replaced. Everything is brittle and falls apart... Also a metal shaving fell into the intake and underneath an engine valve when I replaced the starter... "Little man with a hammer" waiting to happen... I feel like I am digging myself deeper into a hole the more I work on the car... Can a guy refresh the 1uz and remove the metal shaving without pulling the engine out of the car? Thanks for the videos by the way. This is an awesome channel 👍

I wish all the guys in SA would watch this video. And im wondering how many will watch it..... Up here in Botswana almost all the Mercedes Sprinter buses fitted with the legendary 1UZ have all been a dismal failure. I asked some of the drivers where the engines have been fitted, and they point to a garage either in Pretoria or Johannesburg. One such sprinter had some "jerry" cans fitted high up the rear doors because the garage had failed to address an obvious fuel issue problem (It appears the whole conversion took 5 days, on a non-prepped motor) and were anticipating an obvious excessive fuel consumption issue. The vehicle did 150km and the motor died, highway side break-down. After diddling with some wires it roared back to life and did the first trip home with about 2 fuel stops (for a tank that size!!!). At the base the bus broke down on its 1st trip with passengers on -board and had to be towed back to town. The second trip it did 100km and motor died. They called in an electrician and he failed to bring the motor back to life. Within the next few weeks they sold the bus to another operator 500km away and he towed it to another garage in Joburg. Engine prepping.

@@CartuneNZ Are the 1uz non-vvti heads really as terrible as everyone says? I saw a number of 128cfm peak flow. That is hard for me to believe. Even the crappy e7 heads on fords flowed 160cfm and the ports are horrible. I'm not sure how a DOHC head designed with much more modern knowledge is so horrible. I also had a number on the 1uz vvti head flowing around 240@.450" and 250@.500" for it's peak flow, so that is reasonable on that size of bore for a non-ported head.
@CartuneNZ

@dennisrobinson8008 the non vvti are ok for a stock port, the vvti flow plenty more out of the box, then with porting both have reasonable improvements
