The description of the Elemental Specialist achievement namecard (Colors of the Rainbow) seems to suggest that the current 7 elements are perhaps an arbitrary split: "Light can refract into countless colors, but people stop at seven because they're lazy to count. Perhaps the elements are like that, too." Maybe the current 7 elements are split this way because these are the elements the Archons in charge possess. Maybe we'll get more elements in the future. Going along with the light analogy, white light is a mix of the full visible light spectrum, which is what the twins start off with. It is also the color of items that can be interactable under elemental sight and not affected by a specific element. I might be blurring the line between gameplay and lore, but is it because they have a balance of elements within them? I don't think it is a lack of element as during 'We will be united' when we tried to inspect the first field tiller there was no white glow, to which Dain mentioned that the machine did not use the elements to function.

This is actually a really fascinating take on the science of Teyvat, and makes a whole lot of sense. If this theory were to be believed, then it’s actually possible that the supposed “Cataclysm”, the destruction of Khaenriah, wasn’t actually caused by the archons themselves, but actually an enormous radioactive elemental meltdown that needed to be contained; a meltdown so massive and dangerous, that it necessitated all seven of them to be there, and even resulted on one of them dying. It was a containment operation so urgent that with the lack of a way for purification, they were left with little choice but to destroy everything there and let nothing leave lest it spread to the rest of the world.

I feel like the whole energy/element and ascension is easier to understand if you know Chinese culture. Cus it was all very apparent to me, because most of these ideas come from xianxia/Wuxia stories. But now I realize that none of this is really understandable for western audiences. Let me explain xianxia a little, in xianxia novels, the cultivators cultivate adeptal energy, and once they reach a certain level, they need to ascend, and once they reach a certain level of cultivation, they become a god and achieve eternal life. In these stories, you normally train your body to be able to accept the edeptal energy, so if you inject a normal person with too much adeptal energy, they combust. Sound familiar? Elements are probably kind of like adeptal energy, the visions holders are like cultivators, their bodies are trained to accept the energy. And since xianxia is the most popular genre in China, it’s kinda self explanatory, that probably why no one questions it. And I say this pretty confidently, because lay lines, domains and corrupt energy is also often present in these stories, and not always, but in many they also have different elements to master, and obviously Genshin isn’t a xianxia story, but I see so many concepts that are common in Chinese stories. Edit: I’ve just finished the video, and found out people don’t know what lay lines are. These are hard to explain….even I don’t quite understand them, and they’re kinda different in every story. They are like underground lines that contain concentrated elemental energy. they intertwine and feed beings like the hypostasis and azdaha, that’s why he was mad that humans attacked it. And domains in Genshin are kinda different than the ones in xianxia stories, in xianxia they are normally left behind by a powerful cultivator who has passed away, the equivalent in Genshin I think it would be khanri’ah Omg after explaining all this I realized that you guys see the game completely different than I do :O I would strongly suggest checking out xianxia novels, it’ll help you understand the world building of Genshin a bit better, and it’s a genre that doesn’t exist in western media, and it’s just a super interesting style of story after you know what’s going on XD

Ok, but talking about dragonspine reminded me about festering desire, and about how no one has talked about it, or durin, or what the evil dragon was like, WHICH REMINDS ME that I wanna say that I believe Durin is misunderstood. The festering desire’s description when viewed from the weapon archive tells the story of a child seeking to show everyone else the beautiful place it came from. To share its knowledge with the world. I’m not saying Gold is innocent, but that I believe Durin was not a bad person. Perhaps the people of mondstat saw a huge evil looking dragon, and just assumed it was evil, which caused Venti and Dvalin to prematurely attack it, and thus forced Durin to retaliate to the very end of its life. Anyway, I’m just upset that I’ve seen no one talk about how misunderstood Durin might be, and have had enough.

The whole "magnum opus" part is even more interesting because the sword we received from Albedo (Festering Desire) is called MAGNUM in the game files. There is also a future weapon, also related to Albedo, that is codenamed OPUS.

Ok I haven’t watch the video yet or read any comments, but here’s my take on it. Visions are both a blessing and a curse, A contract if I might say. You basically get an increase of power in return for your ambition. At first, it doesn’t sound like you’re losing anything once you get a vision, in fact to anyone not living in inazuma it looks like a benefit. But the electro archon made me realize how much of both it is a blessing and a curse. (More of a curse then a blessing to me) Basically to get a vision you must have enough ambition of a certain trait(?) or something you strongly believe in. For example the hydro vision, from what I’ve heard people with the strong ambition of justice usually receives one. Either way all that ambition goes into that vision and in return for that ambition stored up in that little trinket of elemental power, you get to use the elemental power of whatever vision you received. Basically when people get their visions taken away they lose all that ambition, as seen to anyone who finished part one of the archon quest. As long as you’re not living in Inazuma, I guess visions are a blessing to anyone. (I haven’t finished part two of the archon quest so I don’t know if they get their visions back👀)

With your theory i want to consider some interesting poinst: - Considering how many climate problem we have found on inazuma and the extreme conditions in dragonspine, we can conclude is not something like radiation that is the main problem around here if not the pure energy that is all around teyvat. This pure energy could be consider some extra element that has the world of teyvat and here is the thing, can only be consume or used in craftings just like normal humans cant consume the nitrogen that is just there in the air and can only be consumed indirectly from nutrients we eat like fruits and meat. - A lot of items that can be used for crafting and enhancing our characters are some of the few materials around this world that are clearly high in elemental energy. For example, xiangling can consume the slime residue we get fter killed them with some pure pyro materials gottem from bosses of said element. he vision can just be a catalyzer for people to consume, enhance and use the elements of the seven gods - The thing I got curious is why all the dragonspine craftable weapons has basically the same pasive with the crystal shard hitting after sometime and could be because the dragonspine kingdom tried to channel the elements through their weapons instead of using a vision to channel any element. Thats could be the reason why those shards doesnt have the cryo element. - What about all the non-elemental creatures that work on their own like the fatui that can channel elements thru their weapons and/or their delusions and the ruin line of enemies since they aparently can work for centuries and still work like normal even tho it seems they dont have elemental energy in their bodies?

once you said how the energy is absorbed then released it reminded me of the principle of conservation of energy… energy can’t be created or destroyed, only converted from one form to another and something about the character’s elemental bursts. you need to charge it before you can use it… this ties in so perfectly with your theory that the vision absorbs the elemental radiation then allows the user to release it :o

The talk of the information from marble statues being able to return them to their prior state after destruction made me think of the oculi. Like how the statues of the seven were in a state of ruin, and offering the various oculi start fixing them! In this case, the oculi would be the information extracted, right?

Genshin Impact's visions reminded me of Soul Gem from the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magika where the Soul Gem is a gem gifted upon a wish from a cat-like creature named Kyubey derived from their full name? Incubator. At first the main characters thought the gem is the source of their power which it kinda is until one of the character who has time manipulation powers unintentionlly revealed their gems are actually their literal soul in it where the girls could have died if their body and gem got separate far enough at a distance. They also would have died if the gem was destroyed or if they ever lived long enough they will turned into a witch (the creatures they are supposed to hunt). Basically all this time they hunted their fellow ex-magical girls without them ever knowing.

You may be onto something with the elements being a form of radiation since this same damage over time effect is seen in bale thunder regions and in the second stage of the la signora boss fight. Also, Zhongli did talk about erosion in his second quest. It’s possible that he was referring to the effects of elemental energy on the world, which suggests that it’s eating away at teyvat. If that’s the case, then Celestia could be a sort of Noah’s ark, and the vision bearers are the chosen passengers. And another thing. There’s been a lot of talk about Genshin and Honkai impact taking place in the same universe, or at the very least, being connected in a way that makes them canonical to each other. If that’s the case, then it’s possible that elemental energy is just Honkai energy, which makes sense because Honkai causes the same symptoms you described, as well as many others. If this is true, then visions could be herrscher cores, which means they’re not shields, but a means of harnessing elemental energy in the environment.

And vision is just a fake thing like Venti and Zhongli. But it's just a theory i heard. . 2.And I would like to add this point again. If khanreah screwed up in handling elemental energy and got radioactive , thus people got converted into shady monsters, than it makes sense that naturally, gods would the nation to protect teyvat from that elemental toxicity. Using elements may not be depend on vision , but on their ambition . Just like breathing techniques in Demon Slayer. hey! just another thing to relate to the radiation aspect, theres a glitch where energy particles get caught on geometry and the become interactable, but nothing happens when you do. However their names are listed as "Nuclear Energy Orb(____)" With the blank being the energy particle type(All,pyro,anemo,etc.).

Ashikai, I'll start by praising you for your wonderful videos. I really enjoy them. Keep it up. I don't essentially have anything to add to your theory, but add a science fact, which, you might feel interesting (I have studied microbiology, though what I'm about to say is part chemistry). Gold, isn't only yellow in color. In fact, if you break gold down into nanoparticles, gold's color will change, according to their size. It can be blue, red, pink, green, purple, and obviously yellow, which we know. (Some other color shades also can appear, but I'm considering these for now. Also, some other elements like Silver show this property, but in this situation, let's focus on Gold). So, red (pyro), green (anemo, dendro), purple (electro), blue (hydro, cryo), and yellow (geo). I know the shades might not be exactly the same, but the point still holds. This might not have any actual links, but I just thought I would tell you this. Once again, nice videos.

This occured to me when I was checking out the constallations of the Traveller. It changes between elements. I recall reading somewhere in Genshin that everyone is bound to their fate. So what happens when someone can use a second vision. It would mean said person has two different fates. That would be strange since a fate is out of a persons control. What if Visions allow a person to select their fate without knowing when they get their vision. That would explain why traveller can use all of the elemental powers as their fate is not tied to Teyvat.

I just noticed that genshin's story has like this subtle theme of nature's corruption/pollution hinted or outright said to be caused by the folly of man? Durin's and dvalin's (creatures of nature) corruption, Azdaha's erosion due to humanity disrupting the leylines, etc etc. I have a personal theory due to these themes that orobashi's sudden corruption that caused it to lash at baal might be related to (water) pollution somehow since he's a water snake god thing

The fact that a Vision doesn't disappear entirely after its bearer dies kinda implies it can be fated to someone else. Plus I don't think the Archons themselves are handing out the Visions but someone from Celestia or somewhere beyond. I like to compare the Visions to Ichigo's Substitute Soul Reaper Pass from Bleach. But in this case they aren't useless but they could possibly pose as a means of surveillance for the gods above.

I consider elemental energy as a form of honkai, existing in a world with a way of converting it and suppressing it in some way, the symptoms of toxicity from elemental energy, but seems a lot more tame since in honkai, when Tesla injects honkai energy into herself and rapidly began to decompose, rot, and dry out and crack, it could be theorized honkai is a type of energy since it seems to have a lot of power and acts as a type of power source in the series, similarly high honkai concentration causes, put simply severely affects your mental faculties. It could be said that in both genshin and honkai, honkai energy is a type of energy similar to radiation and in both series some kind of society discovers, and uses it in some way that creates 2 different offshoots, elemental and honkai energy, and both either spread or in some way are intrinsic to the world in some way (note that radiation still appears in our world despite being something defined by being unstable and breaking down itself through radioactive decay) celestia might have simply harnessed this in a version of honkai discovered in a different world but instead of it being a malicious sentient entity it was a…weird memory retaining energy. Something else to note that both elemental and honkai energy can cause rapid and severe mutations, sometimes forming new species and also can transform and create matter and even gather more of itself Herscherrs in honkai are also hugely similar to the archons, possessing internal organ like cores that hold massive honkai/elemental energy, can be removed and are relatively exclusive to them and signify them as godlike entities Even following the meltdown theory, in the previous era of honkai and numerous times in the current era multiple honkai eruptions occur where massive levels of honkai energy erupts whether due to natural or artificial causes like the emergence of the herrscher of the void or the creation of beasts like Ganesha or parvati

2:23 I’m curious about this too. Mona and Thoma don’t have the casing of the nation they’re from. Kaeya and Albedo both have Mondstadts casing but are from Khaenri’ah. Although something interesting I noticed about Kaeya’s vision is it’s missing a part. Childe’s vision tho... It’s a unique shape, changes gem based on his form, and has a Fatui logo behind it (go to gamesfashionarchive to view it). In the first phase of his boss fight he has his normal Hydro vision, in the second phase it turns into an Electro delusion (same placement which implies it's not a different casing), and when he’s in Foul Legacy he gets two gems. As for why his delusion seems to merge/replace with his vision in his Electro form, I don’t know. Maybe it has something to do with the Fatui logo. The shape of the casing is most likely just Snezhnayas version but if my theory that the casing you get is based on where you were when you got it instead of where you’re from (Thoma, Kaeya, and Albedo for example) is correct, then it might be the abyss’ shape. Until we get another Snezhnayan vision holder we can’t know for sure.

I still think Visions act as a potential tracker, if the certain characters with visions does something Celestia agrees or disagrees on. If you do good, you get rewarded future and if bad you get punished. As some said the Celestia in Manga looks rather prison like and Venessa didn't really look happy to be there. For Adepti and Zhongli, they probably reflect the Cultivation system and so on of Taoism or Daoism. It's probably best to read it on developer post that was released after Xiao and search up the topic, because it's long and complex, but still super interesting so say the least.

i dont think i cant forget and ignore about the fact that there are some NPCs in the game that lost their vision but says that that their life feels better rather than a bad side effect, for example if u have gotten the commission near wangshuu inn. there was an NPC that lost his vision but says that he feels better instead of saying it feels bad. I have a feeling that his previous ambition was bad but after losing his vision he doesn't feel the same way anymore. the three people ayaka told us to go meet all had good intentions when they had their visions but after losing them, they forgot all about that.

What if visions aren't the thing that allows us to use the elements, it just that it is simply a way to control how you use it, and given that a vision is like an extension of oneself to represent your ambition, by removing your "ambition", you can no longer use the elements, because you have no more ambition. SO someone like traveler, who can use the elements without a vision, is acting "under the radar", in that they have ambition, but since there is nothing tied to it and so there is no way to remove the ability through taking the vision. However, we do need a way to shape our elemental usage, and so without knowing it, we take on a sort of downsized version of the archons abilities, as we receive elements by touching the statues. This also might be why traveler is the only person who can use elements in the baal fight. Now why doesn't one of the archons just give MC a vision and call it a day? It is because we are an outlander that we cannot receive a vision. If you look on the section about visions in the traveler's story section, it says "You, for your part, can never receive a Vision, for an alien lifeform does not belong..." Now then again, I could just be going off talking nonsense, but isnt that what every theory is? Of course as a theory, it may not be true, but it also may not be entirely false. We have yet to find out.

I'm only 6 minutes in and I don't know if this will be discussed throughout the video, but I have some thoughts. Maybe Zhongli is surprised with vision holders possessing elemental powers because they are not handing out elements, they are only handing out the vessel (vision) that may serve as a key in unlocking a person's innate element. (I'm not sure but I heard something like past people of Teyvat are able to harness elemental powers without the need of a vision. What if they were locked by an entity and only a few are chosen to be given the key to unlock it)

It is said that those who possess visions are capable of becoming gods. What if those who possess visions are capable of becoming gods not because of the visions but because on their own. In the Genshin manga, Vanessa was shocked on seeing Celestia which was just like a prison. What if the gods are giving out vision to keep an eye out on those people who can obtain godhood. okay I.HAVE.NOT.FINISHED.THE.VIDEO. but i wanted to add this... i feel like visions are a shackles to keep humans from overtaking the celestia. okay lets think a bit. they het a vision when they reach the peak of their ambitions or fixate their ambition this means they will pressure this life for that specific goal. this is when they get vision. So, i feel like the orginal reson for giving vising is to limit the humans. when of if humans tried to overthrow the region of gods ideal or celestia like the quest in inuzuma they will simply take the visions back along with their ambitions. also if their is a reward then people would work hard to get the reward but what would do to their motivation or ambition if they are stripped of their very own ambition. i think this is how celestia decided to grant people vision and say for example geo element i think it means that if a ambition meets their lord at any point of his/her life of being god then they awaken vision in that respective element. tell me if my theory missed anything.

Sword, Claymore and Spear are mostly physical attack button except Ayaka are only directly use elemental power damage after Dash not part her Skill and Burst button, especially Catalysts and Bow are able directly use elemental power damage them without wait timer locked buttons end use for support and boost damage.

Haven't seen anyone mention this yet but we all know Sucrose is a bio-alchemist that works alongside Albedo and once she got her vision she started using it to study the elemental life forms in Teyvat, going as far as to mimic the power that the anemo hypostasis Beth has which can be seen in her gameplay that is really similar to an attack Beth uses when fighting it (the butterfly wind smash thing). Also, her elemental skill is named "Astable Anemohypostasis Creation - 6308" as well as her elemental skills mentioning stuff like "Sucrose used to give names to her volatile Anemo Hypostases" and "This is a little embarrassing, but though the elemental lifeforms birthed through this procedure dissipate very rapidly" which is fascinating since it would tie in very nicely with everything as she only was able to achieve this after she got her anemo vision

Just wanted to add, Xiao states that he doesn't actually need his vision, but uses one because it helps his appearance with the common folk.

Let's not forget that the Traveler's role of purification was also mentioned in Albedo's quest. I believe it was implied that Traveler could purify the whatever was left of Durin, and funnily because you said something about making gold, it would also mean Traveler is the last piece of that puzzle, because nobody before them was able to purify the dragons (both Durin and Dvalin), while Inazuma invented a system of constant accumulation and purification which actually works even without the Traveler, who however was recognized as the one who can actually do it, which may also imply that whoever was in charge of it before (one of them being Kitsune Saiguu) had special abilities which Traveler also has or that Inazuman purification system is such a work of art and genius that person who does the purification doesn't need any special powers. Hmm... curious.

I love the radioactive parellel! However, the elements don't necessarily have to be radioactive. Anything with enough energy and the ability to pierce through objects will have the same effects as radiation. And guess what? The elements have that! We see that they easily spread through barriers and throughout bodies, and they are super high energy! I don't necessarily agree with comparing the elements to atoms, because the two don't behave very similarly. If anything, the elements seem to be more like quantum particles, in their abilities to warp around and spread through objects. Classical physics holds that all particles are formed from different "fields" in the universe, and by adding energy to a field, you get said particle. Elements could be fields in the world of Teyvat. Each element corrosponds to a type of field (like an electron or photon field in our world) and each element's behavior is determined by what field it originates from. This also explains reactions. Just like how combining certain quarks creates protons, combining certain elemental particles create different results. If geo is a slow moving heavy particle, it would be able to trap other elemental particles (crystalize) in much the way a higgs boson can grant mass. If Anemo is a light, fast particle, then it would be able to quickly impart energy into whatever it interacted with and spread it (swirl) like a photon can impart energy into a substance. Basically, treating each elemental as a field in physics explains a lot of their behavior, down to what qualities each particle has for each element.

When I read Mona's Vision story, I got the feeling that she had a "vision" given to her by her master that has Mondstadt case. I don't know if it was empty or already had an element in it. But the last few lines suggests that when she got her own vision power, it went into the vision she already had instead of creating a new one with Fontaine case. So even though she is from Fontaine, her vision is of Mondstadt. If the original vision was empty then she is another of of those who has reignited an empty vision.

I think its worth mentioning that the gods are not just the gods of their respective elements but also mainly the gods of for example contracts, justice or eternity. this is mainly shown through the fact that the current dendro archon is the god of wisdom and that the old dendro archon was the "god of the woods". this means that the god of salt wouldnt just become the salt archon as salt isnt an element rather the elements are their own thing

I really love the theory that Khaenriah was destroyed because it posed a danger of a catastrophe similar to a meltdown that would threaten the entire Teyvat. I never bought that "the gods destroyed Khaenriah because Celestia doesn't like humans being independent of gods" explanation because it just directly contradicts what we saw from Venti and Zhongli. Forget the matter of trusting our beloved characters, it just makes no sense that Zhongli would liberate Liyue from himself and decide to continue watching over it till it eventually dies out if a nation being godless was ever valid grounds for its destruction. I'd even go so far as to suggest maybe the gods never even destroyed Khaenriah, rather Khaenriah was already destroyed by the meltdown and the Archons arrived later to do damage control, but to the people it looked like the Archons did the destruction. The gods would be very right to be secretive about it because the very knowledge that alchemy can be so potent is a huge infohazard and they'd rather be blamed for genocide than let it be revealed that such a destruction is possible by human means. Also, the former Dendro Archon is said to have died 500 years ago, and we're led to assume that they were slain by Khaenriah's defense during the attack, but by now we should know better than to assume the immediately obvious. What if they died because they decided to absorb all that energy, sacrificing themselves because it was too great for even a Gnosis bearer to withstand? And maybe they stepped up because Dendro is the element most closely related to the power of life, growth and healing, thus the most suitable for containing the radiation-like effects? Maybe the Dragonspine civilization was also not destroyed by the Skyfrost Nail for incurring the wraths of the gods for coveting their power, but rather it was already doomed to suffer a meltdown and the Nail was a means to minimize the extent of destruction by destroying the equivalent of the reactor before the meltdown. Of course, this doesn't make Celestia entirely justified though: couldn't they have done better? Do they even want to? Celestia is still very definitely suspicious and probably evil. Just saying that one particular accusation probably isn't true. A lot of fan works take Albedo's "if I lose control and destroy Mondstadt" musing to mean he might turn villainous or monstrous, but to me it always sounded like he was talking about his curiosities as an alchemist. That he's too passionate about alchemy to let his concern for Mondstadt suppress his desire to learn more. So maybe he's at least aware of the potent of alchemy and the fact that he could harness enough power to threaten Mondstadt. Venti's voice line about Albedo supports this as well: "It's an ancient power with unmistakable properties. Trying to harness it is dangerous indeed, I can't imagine what would happen if someone >lost control of it< in the city." Recall that Mondstadt hardly practiced alchemy till Albedo arrived, so naturally its god is wary of a guy bringing the risk to it, even if he's not going to do anything about it. These theories are so fascinating and it's the whole reason I was drawn to Genshin. It's really a great experience to be going around the game, making my own observations and finding out what others are discovering, connecting the dots and seeing what others are thinking.

Random thought, but one involving the hypostasis arenas. If you place Albedo's Solar Isotoma in the center of the arena, then the isotoma's outer boundary perfectly aligns with the smaller inner circle. Also they both have a flower pattern at their center which might not be entirely coincidental.

sounds a lot like Honkai energy, which miHoYo admitted to it being heavily inspired by real life radiation just watched the part where you talked about humans getting mutated into monsters, which makes it a lot, lot more like Honkai energy

God, Genshin's lore has SO MANY elements to it that it's hard to keep up with everything without getting lost or having to go back to other videos xD Thank you for making such interesting theories, they keep me entertained and very hooked to what we can expect from this game!! Cant wait for part 2

As a fan of Honkai Impact 3rd as well, the more I listen to this the more I think that visions are the same thing as a tamed Herscherr Core. Herscherrs, for those who don't know, are humans who resonate with the will of Houkai, a malevolent being which spreads Houkai Radiation to destroy mankind *without* destroying the world. Those who are subsumed by personalities called Herscherrs become Titles, things like... "Herscherr of Sentience." The humans are hosts, and the Herscherr sleeps within them until awoken by Houkai Radiation, and then the personality tries to destroy the human and take over. Once a Herscherr awakens, they receive special abilities similar to those of a Vision. What this can be is variable, but generally speaking refers to the ability to control constructs and Honkai Beasts. Given that Genshin Impact is in the same universe, and it is made clear that the Honkai exists almost Ubiquitously, it could be that Celestia has... for lack of a better term, Tamed the Herscherrs of Honkai and mastered the forming of Herscherr Cores (the crystalized Houkai Radiation which serves as host of Herscher and their power source) which would explain why ambition is important. Herscherrs are "Rulers," and are often referred to as Gods by at least the community. I'm not sure if it's true, but it is an interesting similarity.
