I just gotta I’m a young guy in his 20s and i just b8 A4 a few months ago and your videos have helped me very much with reliability and knowledge on my car thanks a lot man
Oh boy, have got a story…make it 4 NT! Bought my 13 Q5 Aug. 2021 from a dealer, carfax showed excellent maintainance, including presale service, 9 months later took a road trip in June last year, heard a strange metallic fluttering one evening at idle, no CEL, next morning no noise, drove back home from Louisiana no problem . Everything normal after 7k road trip. Then about a month ago a slight squealing sound after warmup and at idle only, checked everything all good, but sound emanating from behind cam bridge passenger side. Took it to the dealer, they suggesting the shield was in pieces and they had even seen a piece through the oil fill but no luck getting it out. They recommended tear down, “thanks but no” but thank you for the clue. I had previously done an oil service, never even noticed or thought of that shield. So I ordered up a boroscope and a couple of flexi magnets which haven’t even arrived yet, but two days ago (on a dry day after all the heavy rains here in the Bay Area) I noticed the sound went away, pulled the oil cap and way down below the oil drain gallery opening, there I noticed a piece of that shield just sitting there!!!!! Well I got to work to fish it out, turns there was both halves were under there!!! Took about 60-70 attempts as I was lifting from the edge of the pieces, and what I can’t fathom is the both pieces were a little bigger than than oil drain hole, that is just diabolical! So it took lifting it to the hole then grabbing with my long pointed needle nose pliers, but I got em both, afree about 2 hours. But in reviewing this video, I am missing the two skinny attachment tabs, hopefully they got flushed down to oil pan, will be doing an oil drain inspection next. No scoring on the intake cam lobes that are visible at oil fill, when the boroscope arrives, I will look at exhaust cam lobes. But for now that engine is still purring like a fat kitty! Maybe I better buy some Lottery tickets either way, lucky or not???
Love all ur vids,,,mine was a wiring issue to ,,,,the bracket that holds the coil wiring harness wore Tru the ribbed plastic tubing then rubbed the insulation of the wires causing misfiring ,,,so always good to just take a quick look at ur wiring 👍
I really appreciate all the knowledge you bestow on us viewers. I’ve completely rebuilt my entire Audi A4. 2011 2.0T all from watching your videos. Loyal subscriber
Thank you so much for doing these videos! Just purchased an 08. It was driving perfect… now it’s having issues when accelerating but slow then will idle rough. Only 96k miles.
Naptowntuner. I need you in Naptown (Annapolis)MD. Been put thru the wringer and had 3 failures on 2-3 different audi 2.0tfsi blocks. I can't pay out anymore. I'm ready to dig in myself after your videos. Want to vlog from Naptown MD and get my B8 avant back on the road?? Great content!
Oh shit this makes sense. I'm gonna do this to my 2010 Tiguan when I fix my exhaust and intake valves for Cylinder 1 and 2. I gotta do a timing chain replacement too because my belt ripped on me in the beginning of the year. I have a 2000 Infiniti G20 that is lovely because it takes regular gas and saves me money but winter is coming and I heard it might be a cold snowy winter in Philly so i gotta get'r done.
Yo i have 2012 A5 with same misfire code and I don't have budget for 4000 engine restore.Car drives still but cant wait till sunrise to pop hood and try your hack! Im subbing if your the Audi guide I need!
Really got that m8sfire on clyinder 2 but also oil consumption too much i noted it with that misfire in same time ...are that is piston chamber rings had to change by new one
hi Nap!! i have a audi a4 2010 with 266k could u give an advice when i go fill tank it takes 15 min to fil cause pump clicks 20 times what can be bad ? vent valve ? canister ? thanks
Hey I need help from Naptown tuner. My car has been having a random misfire for months now. I’ve replaced a lot on this car and can’t shake the misfire. Replaced coils, plugs, coil connectors, timing chain and tensioner, pcv valve, both oxygen sensors, air oil separator, cam bridge, spool valve and magnetic adjuster. Did all this and my check engine light still flashes with a random misfire and codes for pcv and o2 sensor after I already replaced them. Could the issue be that I need to reset the car with a vcd cord and program on a laptop? Please I need your help this is my only car
Hello, excuse my English, from what I understood that this piece can cause serious damage if it comes loose. But it was not clear to me about the misfire p0300 that part can still cause that failure?
Wtf...I wonder if thus is what's causing my ghost knock on my S3 cobb tune. I've done Castrol like day 1 NGK oem spark some rs7 plugs and still get knock numbers on my cylinders. I'm wondering if going copper plugs can lower it
Long shot for you to reply but ive replaced coils and spark plugs new pcv valve new oil new filter .. but just got a misfire again on no.3 but also have (bank 1) code also , any thoughts ? 02 sensor ? Cat is also clean .. no debris , only other faults i have is about one month ago i was driving and it sounded like something popped and air was hissing out for around 30 seconds and has never done it since .. rear main seal ? Any help would be beyond helpful .. as im down on power with a misfire and have a loud hising noise as i accelerate and cant tell the difference if its standard turbo noise or something bad .. (2010 2.0 tfsi a5 coupe)
When they first came out I had to take one down to the bare block for research and development in the factory line. Not enough of those engine to make any money from videos. Besides making an honest living I’m not motivated by money but it’s always a factor for everyone. Similar reason why I just did the 4 cylinder
Huh 😲 good to know,,, my oil cap leaks enough now with that piece I need a new rubber for it but when I get it I'll be ripping that piece out as soon as I do 👍
@@NaptownTuner hey I got a question unrelated to my oil leak,an I need someone with knowledge ,,,I'm changing out my intake manifold due to faulty runner flaps (shame cuzz I just did a carbon cleaning an put new injectors in due to one being stuck open),,but I got the new updated manifold from uro parts an the n316 valve that controls the flappers inside have a second fresh air line hook up coming out the back of the valve were it plugs in ,,,they sell a separate line that goes up an mounts with a clip on top of the valve cover,, do I need this line or can I just figure my own way to hook this up to clean air or does it need vacuum or pressure in some way I figured ud delt with this and would know the deal e o with the new fresh air line hook up🤔🤨,,thank you again sir
UPDATE: 13k miles later I got a hard misfire code on #2, not spark plug, not coil, low compression #2 cylinder, oil pan was pulled, metal fragments, motor shot! It started as a soft misfire at idle mostly, and got progressively worse, but got us home 2k miles later, we were in the middle of a road trip. Used motor being installed at the moment with new TC, WP, rear main seal, etc. It was a great engine at 130K+ until that “camshaft shield” was ingested !!!
Got it, cooper..., got it, gap it... however... what is the ideal gap size on stock form (if differentfrom manufacturer specs)? If running stage 2, no KO4, aftermarket intake/downpipe/intercooler, what is the gap size? Cold or hot spark plugs?
Hey man I want your honest opinion. I own the A4 B8 2.0 TFSI since 2011. The engine was using 1l oil per 1000km. I got a new Audi motor in 2014 for free as the car was under warranty. Since then no oil usage, just the cooler went bad in 2020. Now the car has 190,000km & it is running perfect. Would you sell the car or keep it for another 200,000km?
I have a 2013 Audi A5 with the same engine, that's misfiring without throwing a code. Is that a possible symptom of this stupid bracket coming a bit loose?
PS. The dealer did mention something about quick lube hotshots and their oil filling pistols! Obviously they’ve seen this issue and nobody's paying for it but us!! Pay attention to Naptown Tuner, da 2.0T guru, I said it…
My Audi A4 B8 is having a misfire. I got new coilpacks, spark plugs, PCV valve, and adjusting the gap. But my car is still very rough idle and doesn’t even start some times. I have a bunch of fuel coming out of the car
Hello I need help 😫 plz my 2010 Audi A4 2.t Quattro, check engine light on and misfiring then possible oil leak so I’ve just been adding oil till I get fixed and today I run out hear rattling and car brakes down , ratting like netting when I try to start and it bearly turns over but once it does it sounds like rattling metal and doesn’t drive
Hey Naptown, looking for some help.. 2013 audi a4 2.0t, 93k miles have code p0302. (Only misfire at idle, while driving no misfires) Replaced coils and plugs with red top coils and ngk platnium plugs. Still has a misfire, removed intake and replaced all 4 injectors. Still throws a p0302 def noticed a difference not missing as bad. Had carbon build up on valves. Didnt do a crazy job or soak them and clean them just scrapped valves and vacuumed it out. Looking for any tips or advise on where to go next or anything with these engine thats normal to go bad etc. will be doing compression and leak down test only thing i did not do yet, Thanks for any information -Justin
Watch out for wires, able coil connector. Because plastic item can’t reader on wires plugs for the connector to feed ECM due overheat, and debris, if still not. Then look up on secondary injectors, which is on left side next to connector coils. Let see what we got there within results. Cross fingers!
What happens if you think this DID happen? What's the fix? My wife's 09' A4 is misfiring and I'm desperately want to fix it for her. She loves her car and well, I love her so what ever it takes lay it on me so I can get to work.
I trust your judgement as a 2.0 Audi oligist :) and I wanna ask something I usually did my oil changes every 5000 miles on my old Q7 3.6 . I have the new 2.0 is it okay I do it every 5000 on this engine too ? I read something about detergents in oil and changing to soon can hurt the engine . Thank you 🙏 for all you do and I love your vids !
Interesting but I have never had an issue with any of my Audi's with this. Maybe it's because I do my own service. Totaling the miles of the last 5 Audi's I owned, (and the two I still own) that totals 942,000 miles and counting.
After spending some time with It, turned out to be cylinder 3 and it was in the engine, when I have time I’ll take it apart and figure it out, very rare misfire that would come and go could have been a valve spring.
@@NaptownTuner ok because I was having misfire on cylinder 2 turned out to be the fuel injector stuck open. Fludding the cylinder. Took of the injector tapped it around some. Seem to be working for now finger crossed. Love the video keep them coming. I would like to see more complete how to videos. Invest in good camara and stands you will do great on you tube. Thanks for the knowledge.
As an engineer (not automotive) I wonder why that thing is there. No way they put a part there for fun. It must be mitigating some risk of dropping something in the hole. I'm not saying that you need it...just that someone decided that dropping a cap from a quart of oil or something was likely enough that they needed to do something about it.
A plastic cap is better than that shield getting chomped up to pieces by the spinning lobes, lucky my shield just got snapped in two retrievable pieces!
Usually a valve cleaning if spark plugs and coils are good, could be an injector but usually cold start soft misfires and occasional misfires are valve carbon
I went with a friend to pick up a used a5 and checked it over for him. Had a cylinder 2 misfire so he got a decent deal. I told him it was probably just a carbon clean to fix it so he bought it with my recommendation. Turns out this stupid piece fell in and ruined the exhaust cam and rocker. Now a decent deal is a terrible deal. Stupid stupid stupid
