Smashing Pumpkins is timeless. Go through Gish, Pisces Iscariot, then Siamese Dream, to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Those albums (along with Radiohead) got me through my teen years. Billy might/may be a big drama queen, but he damn well knows how to write a song. Edit: If you like A Perfect Circle, James Iha joined that super group in the mid 2000's.

This is Allan's daughter (the one that recommended this song) and we all hang out every night and watch your reactions. When we saw you were doing The Smashing Pumpkins 1979 we were stoked, and when we saw that you were reacting to Thru the Eyes of Ruby we freeeeaked. All of their albums are great but Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is by far their best. His youngest daughter is 14, I'm, 30 and my brother is 31 and he did us a favor by showing us Tool/The Pumpkins/A Perfect Circle etc when we were growing up. It's just on a whole other level as far as talent, meaning, the whole enchilada. As far as The Smashing Pumpkins goes, I would recommend Muzzle, Zero,Tonight Tonight, Bullet with Butterfly Wings and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. (Muzzle is probably the next best IMO) Keep doing what you do!!! Looking forward to your next tracks!

Not just for the song itself but it's position on the album coming right after Disarm gives you a little breathing room before doubling down on the feeling when the music kicks up. JimmyChamberlin (the drummer) was the Danny Carey of the 1990’s . I know Tool were around in the 90’s, but Jimmy was (arguably) the better drummer back then. It is SHOCKING that they aren’t in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame! They created a whole new genre of music with their second album (Siamese Dream). It wasn’t grunge, like most alt rock/metal bands were back then. They brought back arena rock mixed with face melting riffs, insane drumming, layered vocals (kind of like how Queen layered their vocals). They had a sound that will never be copied. As soon as you hear a clip of a Pumlins song you KNOW it’s them. Their third album (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness) was the highest selling double album of the 1990’s , and is consistently in the top 10 double albums of all time. They fused hard rock with metal, with grunge, with pop. They are Kind of genreless.

"It's a softer voice or whatever..." Hehe. Now react to songs like 'Bodies', 'XYU' or 'Tales of a Scorched Earth'... He actually has a voice that can go from eerily soft through to face melting scream of the banshee and the band have excellent songs that take advantage of it all but the main reason some people don't like his voice is that it can sound quite nasal and that puts a lot of people from diving into the pure gold that is the Smashing Pumpkins song back catalogue.

During Pumpkins mania in the 90s I vividly remember hating Billy Corgan's voice and once they won all those Grammys they got played to 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 on radio and Mtv, which didn't help. I dug the instrumentation a lot but him....ugh. Then about 10 years ago while on a road trip with my cousin he played their classic album " Siamese Dream " and I was blown away by how solidly crafted it was. "Cherub Rock", "Disarm" and "Mayonnaise" in particular slammed me with a wave of nostalgia. They all drove home memories of my youth in a crazy way. Billy's vocals no longer bothered me after that, in fact it really grew on me. Now I love both his tone and singing style. My wife and I have seen Smashing Pumpkins twice live in Australia and I bought four of their albums which continue to be on rotation: Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness are my favourites. Just so weird how that goes. And yeah, trust me I deeply regret missing them at their peak.

This is not a song you see a lot of people react to, but I think it's the perfect choice because it really encapsulates what Billy the the gang were trying to do at this point.. not being afraid to embrace their heavier roots, bombastic guitar solos, wall of sound guitars... Mellon Collie is all over the place, but this is one of the best songs they've ever done. Mayonaise next, please! (I met Billy once, I told him Mayonaise was my favorite song, he said thanks. And then my girlfriend proceeded to talk to him for several minutes about poetry or something.. it ended with Billy asking his security guy "Where's my slushie, motherfucker?!" Good times.)

But Billy so rubbed people the wrong way, I don't think they'll ever be inducted. And thank you for noticing the drums... Jimmy Chamberlain is probably the best rock drummer of all time. He seems to empathize with the guitars... But before you fall in love with them, check out the song "Beautiful," from the same album. I love it, it shows their range, but a lot people just stick to the face melting. Great channel. Kudos.

These albums are the type you need to listen to in their entirety. Melonchollie and the infinite madness was the first successful double album since Zeppelin and Pink Floyd to be released. Pumpkins are the modern day Zeppelin.

My favourite song from my favourite band!! I’m glad you chose this song as most RU-vidrs would pick a single. The strange thing about the Pumpkins is that many of their non-single songs are usually a lot better than the singles they chose to release. They released the most simple / commercially viable songs as the singles to draw fans in and saved the real gold for the albums. Examples - hummer, mayonnaise, Soma, here is no why, muzzle, porcelina, bodies, thru the eyes of Ruby, tear, for Martha etc etc. Even some of their b sides, although undeveloped, are better then the singles! His voice is very polarising but I love it - extremely powerful, It’s like another instrument!

HERE WE GO! I just left another long comment about how SP are my favorite band since 93' when I was 11 years old. If I had to pick my favorite songs it would literally be impossible. There's so many from each album. Ruby is one of their epics. Other epics in my opinion off the top of my head would be Hummer, Soma, Porcelina of the Vast Oceans, and Glass and the Ghost Children(this one is not for everyone, it's weird but great). I haven't played this video yet but I'm really hoping you like it. Whoever recommended it is a damn hero. My second favorite band is Dream Theater and I saw on your channel you have a reaction for them too. Dream Theater is a supergroup of dudes that have degrees in music, there's very few people on the planet as talented as them. People's main complaint of Dream Theater is James LaBrie's voice, but you get used to it and it grows on you. Kind of like RUSH, Geddy Lee's voice is something to get used to. Actually, since I'm commenting on a Pumpkins video, a lot of people hate Billy's nasal voice but I actually prefer it to his "new" singing style. Sorry for these long comments man, just excited to see new Pumpkins fans being made!
