Well, it's an acquired taste in the Western world and it tends to be expensive. I think the vast majority of people in the West who watch fragrance reviews on RU-vid are just looking for the latest releases, designer gourmands or freshies that will get them compliments and/or cheap clones of such fragrances. I think it says a lot about a reviewer's passion for the art of perfumery to review genuine oud fragrances and other lesser-known, perhaps divisive fragrances.
You and Joy Amin are the only one's on youtube revewing this Ajmal Dahn Al Oud Al Shams. There are other reviewers but they are speaking in Hindi and Spanish which are languages I dont understand. I love oud so much so I order it. I cannot wait! You said to layer with fresh herbals I will try. Fragrantica folks are saying it is banyard and poopy but they said that about Oudh Infinni by Dusita but this scent is absolutely devine and refined a huge bouquet of roses nothing to do wirh poop.
Just ordered the Ajmal's one becouse of this, it makes me think it has that animalic touch like in leather oud by dior and the night from frederic malle, your videos are great btw
Great choice. It is similar to the ones you mentioned - moreso to The Night. Nevertheless, if you are a fan of Leather Oud, you will also enjoy this. Enjoy!
@@realscentreview I received it and I love it! You're right, smells similar to "the night" it's just amazing, i'm thinking of order another bottle more or mukhallat Al shams
@@rtth07 Up to you, but if I were you, I'd consider buying a bottle of Mukhallat Shams just because it's slightly different. You get that same type of funky, bold and leathery oud, but balanced with some super nice rose and ambergris. Gives it a warm, salty and musky vibe. Also, the sandalwood in the drydown is out of this world. Less expensive too. I'm releasing a more in-depth comparison between Mukhallat and Dahn Oudh tonight or tomorrow - hope you can check it out.
I just got addicted to oud colognes(synthetic)I’ve got about 8 different ones in the past 2 months. My favorite is Nishane Kredo,As it drys I find the oud smell actually addictive
Kredo is great. As far as I know though, Nishane uses real oud in their fragrances. If you want to take your oud game to the next level, try Leather Oud by Dior
I received the Dahn al oudh al shams by Ajmal. To be completly honest I despised at first but by now I know how to enhance this initial beast who once layer with fruity high quality ouds becomes *devine* . My bedroom feels amazing!
I completely agree with you. Sawalef is simply amazing although very linear. Top quality oud is being used. Should i consider picking ajmal/ al haramin golden oud if i already posses Sawaleh? Your suggestions?
@@nadari09 Mancera's Sand Aoud. Not really oudy, but smoky with a touch of woods. It's versatile and likeable but man it is unique and one of the best fragrances I've ever smelled. I've just released a review of it.
Real oud does not have to smell barnyardish or fecal/animalic. The reason why majority of them do is because the cheapest way to get maximum yield of oud is the fermentation method. They soak the oud in water for long periods of time which causes bacteria to act on them and this increase the yield but gives it the barnyardish smell. So when you use these perfumes, it is fecal at the start but with time the original smell of oud comes out and you love it. Im not saying there is no oud which smells barnyardish but most of the ouds available in the market are distilled with the fermentation method. There is a new-gen method which gives you the direct smell of the oud without the fecal/barnyardish aspect but these are very expensive. The fermented method has become so ubiquitous that people now think that all real ouds smell barnyardish which is not true
Yes, great explanation - very thorough. Once I have a few more truly oud-centric fragrances in my collection, I'm going to make an epiosde fully dedicated to the thorough explanation of the oud sourcing and extraction process.
i recently got the dahn from ajmal, i am definetely a beginner to oud but i bought it because it has a rep as a ballsy straight oud note perfume. as i guess i should have figured, its kinda too funky alone but ironically makes alot of other stuff i have smell really interesting in combo, usually in a good way.
Yes, very strong yet great to add a deep, animalic touch to lighter fragrances. Polo Red/Red Intense were two of my very first fragrances - love them. I feel like the animalic, leathery oud would pair well with the sweet coffee. The Dahn Oudh layered with This is Him by Z&V is a winning combination too, I've found.
Ajmal rocks! Can you please review Rose Wood by Ajmal? I am a girl and I love oud leather tabacco fragrances. Do you know of a Lattafa with this scent profile please? My.favorite is Cuir Intense by Guerlain but I cannot afford it.
Yes, they are becoming my favourite fragrance house. At some point in the future if I can manage to buy a bottle, I will review it. Can't make any promises though! As an alternative to the note profile you are describing, I would say that Qaa'ed al Shabaab comes fairly close. Black Aoud and Oud Edition by Montale are also similar.
@@realscentreview I will get a few montale samples however I feel like I should keep my cash to by Cuir Intense by Guerlain for the problem I find with these clones it that their dry down smell like cheap alcohol perfume whereas the Guerlains of this world smell memorable and that is worth the saving.
@@realscentreview I agree! I promise myself clones no more! Although I might get that lile ombre nomade scent from the woods collection based on your perspecrive video. I almost got a Cuir Intense but the post office lost it but the house refunded me.
The Mukhallat would smell great on some women, I absolutely think so. Animalic sensuality. The Sawalef Oud Maktum is straight up masculine though, in my opinion. Very woody, green and just exudes manliness
@@gems8167 Yeah, the price per ml isn't the cheapest but because of the small volume the nominal price is still pretty inexpensive considering the strength of the juice and its [subjectively] low versatility- it'd probably last most people a long time
