There are no license restrictions on the size of your first motorcycle in the United States. As a beginner you can buy one like the BMW S1000RR with 200 horsepower, as this gentleman did. Using common sense and a good suspension setup, you can even ride all 200 ponies at a track day.

Originally, I thought the guy was an idiot but toward the end of the video, I changed my mind about him. The fact that he went on three track days tells me he's learning a lot.
@hillie47
@hillie47 4 года назад
Exactly. Willing to learn, talks to the experts and listens, plus 11K miles on that bike and it didn't look like there was much damage, so he must have kept his cool. And to be honest, I see 15+ year old bikes for sale with less miles, from guys that have only had that 1 bike. "I've been riding for 15 years", yeah, 5 sunny day rides a year and that's it. At least this guy bought a bike and actually rode it and got the experience. I put over 10K miles on in my first year of riding, rain or shine. It helps.

No way in the world should a liter bike be anyone's 1st bike... Nowadays with all the rider aids these bikes are 1 flip of the switch away from full on 200hp... The bike manufacturers can sell a liter bike that rides like a 600cc "click" it's now a 750cc "click" now it's a 1000cc all with traction control, abs, anti-wheelie, etc... Unfortunately a lot of riders have fooled themselves into thinking there is a shortcut in this sport... Sadly no such thing exist... Experience is everything in this sport.
@LuckyNikitaBoba

@@gixxer750cc I do agree with you 110%, but once in a while you get a rider that might be lucky enough to not get killed riding a bike like this as his first bike. The sales guy who sold him this bike will pay for it in karma.
@hillie47
@hillie47 4 года назад
@@gixxer750cc I agree that it's well overpowered and for most folks it's overkill at first. I know I wouldn't be comfortable. But this guy seems to have it under control and he's put more than 10k miles on the bike, so it's not that he's without experience. Or willingness to learn, as the video showed. A saving grace for the modern ride by wire bikes is that many have a few different riding modes that allow one to "grow into the bike" a little more gently. But still, I do agree with not recommending starters to go out and buy a jacked up liter bike. :)

He's obviously a pretty decent rider and a smart guy. Bike only goes as fast as your right hand will allow.
@gumpertapollo97
@gumpertapollo97 4 года назад
Bike goes as fast, as the electronics allow. Up to 80mph you don't need more than 120hp. Look at the 0-60 times from the first r1 and now the 200hp one. A friend chopped a r1250rs with his falco with luggage on it. The driver was really good, but 145nm does bring you nothing when you can't get them on the road or the ectronics block them.

Dude is humble and obviously all in with his new hobby. I see nothing wrong with a liter bike for a first bike, providing one is capable of self control and learning. It’s all about how much throttle. Take it easy and don’t outride your abilities on any bike. I’ve watched lots of 600 and smaller bikes go down while being “first bike”.

@ae70gts
@ae70gts 4 года назад
maybe he got a good mind program. opens throttle up to where he feels safe . he seems the type of guy who plays safe uses his upper head instead of the lower one , like many here. so what if he got for fisrt bike with 200 hp? any poptard here thought he might be using just 30% of it and when he feels safe ads +5% every 5 months or when he feels it? "starter bike " lol. many people buy " starter bikes " crash after 5 months and die. other people go straight to 1000cc and dont get a scratch ever because they use their heads. lol.

In two minds over this. He is seeking the right advice, has the right gear and seems to be an intelligent and controlled person. The RR can be docile if you are careful and has to shelf electronic aids. While I thought my sv650 was too much as a first bike, for the first month, jumping to an s1000r after 14 months and about 16000km incl a few track days was not intimidating - but just applied the caution I applied when learning to fly light aircraft. I think the s1000 is too much for a “never ridden a bike before” novice but would be doable if and only if you have some control and self restraint. Ride it above your skill level and it get you to lethal speeds stupidly quick. Depends on attitude at the end of the day

I did a track day and this sub-20 year old turned up on a brand spanking new R6. Nice kid and very eager to learn. Had every trick option/accessory. Put the bike down every session, and had to be shown how to wheel it. Scariest bit was he would hammer it on the very short straight (for those that have ridden Sydney Motorsport Park’s South Circuit, they will know it as the straight after the climbing left in front of the pits) and even the quicker litre bikes were reluctant to punch past out concern he would go quicker and mess the braking for the slow left up. A few older people chatted to him and suggested he needed to start on an R3, and the school threw some 1:1 coaching resources at him. He was not a dick of a kid - quiet respectful kid very eager to learn but I am guessing had little experience driving or riding. Lucky he suffered no injuries but the bike sustained damage - I am guessing money as not an issue for him.
