www.DaveMossTuning.com Merry Christmas! Dave tunes the suspension of 4 motorcycles in this video, 2 street bikes and 2 track bikes. www.DaveMossTuning.com
Suspension settings used to be complete wizardry until I started watching Dave tune bikes on this channel. Now I at least have a basic understanding, the man is a gem.
“Where’s he gone?” Man, some people can be so rude. I would have had been writing everything down 😂 awesome video Mr Moss. I used one of your videos years ago for a gsxr fork oil change. Really appreciate your efforts and what you share with the rest of us 👍🏼 subscribed.
just listening to how he talks i begon to understand suspension. That's what it is to really know what the hell you're doing. Top level tuner fight there.
I love how Dave asks 1 question and knows exactly what screw(s) to turn which direction and solves (presumably hours of frustration) in 5 seconds. That must be both satisfying and infuriating to most of those riders/Dave's customers. At the end of the day, being happy with your bike is worth much more than you paid for it. Thanks for another awesome video, Dave and team!
Dave runs through this stuff so quickly and proficiently, it's a lot of information to take in under a very short period of time. He doesn't "hem" or "haw" with his statements. This means you need to pay attention and focus closely on what he says. It's impressive and intimidating, but watching these videos over and over helps you pick up a LOT on what's going on through various scenarios. Huge endorsement for Dave and getting your bike set up. If you have ANY doubts, abandon them. If you have the opportunity to have Dave work on your bike at the track, do NOT pass it up. If you can't because of location, then you should look into getting your suspension professionally adjusted regardless. Thanks for the video, Dave!
I just started watching your vids, and have learned more about suspension through these than 30 years of pub experts, thanks for the great context Dave. Why did 63 people dislike this video? obviously friends of MT10 guy.
@@Dub3God that video was packed with informations and changed my perspective of riding. The rental car analogy he used was perfect. I learn something new every time I watch that video.
Because they can and that is their mission in life, especially being anonymous online. So, we help those who want the help in the hope they subscribe to the DMT website to learn more. Thanks for watching!
I could watch Dave work all day. Great channel, even greater to watch a man enjoy what he does and pass the passion on. All of these riders felt heard and understood, then they felt the results. Just great to see.
This man deserves hundreds of thousands subs. . this man simply saves life at a very complex situation of riding.. i salute to this guy . . . God Bless Brother . . i hope motorcycle company recognizes his efforts and intelligent regarding the motorcycle suspension that most of the motorcycle company negating
Watching a couple of his video basically unlocked a door to the answer of my bike pogos behaviour.. very easy to understand. I started to pay closer attention to cold oil vs hot oil, then all those settings.. thank you very much
Just bought a 2020 KTM 890 Duke R and after watching this video I’ll be going over the suspension with a fine tooth comb. Thanks Dave for all your effort making such great videos you are a true gentleman
The despair in his voice at 25:09 when he says "we'll talk about that we come back", had me dying!!! Also I went outside and changed my fork oil so if I meet him I won't disappoint him as much
I just discovered your videos today and they are EXCEPTIONALLY helpful. Thank you for everything you have shown us and put on youtube. Thank you so much. I'm a complete novice here and its been a pleasure and privilege to be able to understand just from your explanations alone. I hope i can meet you and thank you one day!
What an awesome level of information to bring to youtube, thankyou for sharing this, I just learned more about suspension in 25 minutes than I think I have in 25 years, obviously not looking into it as much as I should....I read the book with my bikes and setup as directed but understanding isn't provided in the books, just instructional how to's
@@catalystreactionsbw I've been in the workshop today and noticed the S1000xr has a little bounce in the front, the CBR is good but the BMW is going to be an interesting fix, more reading needed
Thanks for this video man! By far one of the best suspension tunings/tutorial I've watched. You put it in the simplest terms for everyone to understand. As soon as I get back home from this deployment and on my bike I'm gonna contact you to get some help. Stay safe and well Dave!
I had this done by an expert but without all the explanation you're giving. Just a smug grin from the technician because everything he did was new to me. I love this video because you explain what you're doing and why. You're doing a great job!
Watching this made me question my setup , a couple of conversations with Dave and it’s a completely different bike , compliant and settled , don’t think because you own a sports bike it should be hard and stiff ( pardon the pun) Thanks Dave I’m “ over the moon” with the F3 now 🌛
Everyone else's videos has nonsense, gimmicks, and etc. This guy delivers nothing but facts, knowledge, and experience. Feel like I'm at home listening to my dad give me advice on a bike. Good job mate. I'm Subscribed.
Thank you for your contributions to the Motorsport community. You’re an inspiration and frankly give me hope I may still enjoy life with...ahem....advanced age.
DM has a no nonsense approach to suspension diagnosis and problem solving, he explains well and reasons why adjustments are made the way they are . I understand better than most the part that cause and effect play when it comes to suspension settings due to my performance work with Shock's and suspension when applied to Race Car's. Dave's knowledge and approach when it comes to Tuning both Street and Track bikes IS IMHO the Pinnacle. Based on my knowledge I tuned my Ducati suspension reasonable well or so I thought until digested some of Dave's Video's and realised that just like a Race Car the Tyres TELL you the story learn to read that correctly and apply the principles of Dave's Tuning and you are well on the way to gain much more enjoyment from your bike I think we Bike rider's are blessed to have someone such as Dave Moss who give us this information freely . Dave Moss to you I say Thank You .
Thank you for sharing your POV based on your experiences. Believe it or not, car tire and bike tire wear are almost identical for compression and rebound. I sincerely appreciate your support on my work!
This is true and very important to make your bikes suspension work properly...If you don't take the time to do this and test and make adjustments...your'e "missing the boat" . Especially if you ride on a racetrack ...where you will need to change suspension settings for different conditions. You spent a lot of money getting a nice bike with adjustable suspension. It's worth your time to adjust it. Good video.
holy hell this guy knows his stuff. thanks so much for the great video. maybe if i watch this enough times, i can start working on my own setup. Big thank you!
Hey Dave! Thank you so much for your contribution. As another guy said, learned more in 25 min than riding and asking shops for 25+ years of riding! I have recently bought the exact same MTI0 (Yamaha) that you tuned in the video. I dont track ( yet :) ), and I do commuting and weekend rides ( quite fast - located in Greece). I am at 5000Km and the bike has factory settings. Will try the setup you explained in this Vid. and post back. Thanks again for your down to earth, honest, specialized contribution to a field that tends to be "backyard". Be well and ride safe. Cheers
Thank you for leveraging the content to find your own settings based on your roads and speeds! Please share the settings you choose to help other MT10 owners.
@@catalystreactionsbw Definitely! Roads are less than ideal here and it gets quite hot, especially in the summer. Will have a go with your invaluable info, on my 98' TDM also. She definitely will benefit from your insght :). I rode the MT when I bought it, straight 1200 Km. Had a lot of arguments with my ass :). Anyhow, thanks again. Being an engineer, I really appreciate your info, and definitely come back with my endeavor! Take care and thanks for getting back to me.
Studying vehicle dynamics whilst at university, I heard it said that setting up suspension was an art. As a paper exercise its hard to set up to a drivers liking. But this guy has the art down.
After 6 months of watching his videos, I can come to the conclusion that any bike, i.e any bike is good as long as it is set up for you. I nowbhave to confidence to take any bike tot the track, and any bike on the road. Amazing work sir, I how to meet you one day. 🇮🇳
Thank you for taking the time to not only increase your knowledge but put it to action in making changes. My sincere appreciate for what you have gained.
Dave I just watched a video on how to set rebound on your bike and I was cringing the whole time it was very bad and made me thankful that you do the work you do giving the correct information is very important thanks for all you do and Happy New Year.
Wow that is scary that people don’t have no clue on motorcycle operations ❗️❗️ thank you for educating these people and giving me a schooling as well ‼️‼️‼️
Best video about suspension ever! Just need to watch is 5 times to see what to make on my mt10. If You ever come to Italy or Austria, ill be there to set my bike too.

If they like the setup they dont return, you kidding me, how rude is thet, at lets say thank you very much David. I haven't meet anyone with knowledge like this. Ive been following David, and just watching and listening has improved my riding zx1400r Kawasaki to level unimaginable level,, corners hittings, say sign show 35km im hitting at 75km smooth and sweet, eveyone has different riding levels, follow David, and you will see in shorter time to find best riding style for you. Track days are the best
I have never witnessed a true Guru ever in my life until now. Something like this should be boring as hell but but far from it lmao it carzy I need come see this guy with my bike.
Just some free advice, get your static sag dial in correctly from and rear that will solve 90% of your handling. Then fine tune compression and rebound one at time.
What a vast amount of knowledge, riveting watching Dave. I've adjusted my Hayabusa by the recommendations in the manual too after watching your video's Dave, and please to say that the setting really needed adjusting, the front for instance were not even at the same clicks. I've done 3 clicks out. As its a new bike for me I didn't know how it performed before I done the adjustments. The rear however, there very limited space to get in and make shock adjustments, but will try again soon. After the Corona virus clamp down, (were not allowed to make unnecessary journeys in the UK) I'm looking forward to riding my bike again. You got me real hooked Dave thanks for your attention to detail. Regards Dave D
Thanks for taking the time to invest in yourself and your bike to enjoy the result of much better handling! Yes, the shock area is tight for preload but I have no doubt you will get that changed as well. A tip of the hat to you sir!
Hi Dave , that's the wonderful video on how does preload and rebound works. I have a Kawasaki Z900 and how does it's forks setting works on it. It has one side of preload and rebound adjusters and the other side nothing. Recently I found that the bike looses it's control on suspension easily feel it during cornering.
This is a man who knows his shit. I wish my MT-07 had adjustable suspension. It feels like riding a bouncy rock like that MT-10 looked before he adjusted it. I've already adjusted the preload on the rear (5/9) and put thicker oil in the forks (10w to 15w) and removed 5mm of air but that's all I can do without spending a lot of money. By the time I've spent all the money upgrading the suspension I could have just bought an MT-09 or MT-10.
@@catalystreactionsbw Thanks for the tip. I assume adjustable caps won't do the trick alone and I'll have to actually shorten the spacer first? If so that can be a job for the next owner because I can't be bothered to take the forks apart again xD
@@6Twisted Adjustable caps could make the situation worse if you are using the OEM spacers at stock length. Measure your static sag now. It should be 20-25mm. If it isn't then cut the spacers 12mm, install and measure again.
Somehow I got a puncture in the bladder in the rear shock on my yz125, which released most of the nitrogen into the suspension fluid. Talk about pogo! I decided to just go ahead and rebuild the front and rear suspension and I've gotta say it taught me so much about how important proper suspension setup is. I just started from factory settings and worked from there, but honestly I think the single most important part was setting the race sag, I didn't realize how much that would help especially if you plan on adjusting the suspension, you've gotta have a proper base setting to work off
Thanks for diving into the work after the bladder failure. The results are certainly worth the work and now via a little fine tuning via your eyes in monitoring how much travel is used in the forks and shock, your bike will truly becomes YOURS!
