I'm all for this build. Who cares what some armchair expert says. Since they aren't making these cars anymore why not make one yourself using scrap parts no less. Have fun! We're enjoying the videos and hopefully you'll inspire someone else out there to get off their behind and make them sparks fly! You're doing fine building off the doors and windshield posts etc. and careful measurements. Look forward to more!
You are a Pioneer! Plenty of people will say it can be done but you are the one doing it! It'll be done well because you won't do a half &#@ job. I'm really diggin it!!
I knew you could do it.😎👍 This is good to know if you have a more door from the south that is rotting from the top down and the interior is fried you can get a northern two door car that is rotting from the bottom up that still has a halfway decent interior. The roof would still be good on the two door. The bad part is the two door doors are probably rotted pretty good on the bottom but don't they repop those? The other way to do this is to lengthen the front doors using part of the rear door. And the other half of the rear door can be used to make the quarter panel more two door like. You would end up with a tall man Nova with the extra head room of the more door with only two of them.😁😎👍
Really John, where you put those few tackwelds On those a pillars to make it stronger. You should put 2 sleeves inside of each one and then slide the pillar back over the sleeve. It'll help you position it better.
Them Turbine wheels are cool! I've ridden in a bunch of Novas, and once drove a buddy's Mediterranean or Mulsanne Blue '72 two door with a 307 and Powerglide.
Interested in the conversion and kudo's for such an ambitious endeavor, couple of tips to help next time, if there is a next time.. I would have cut the inside and outside at different points for 2 reasons, one is strength by having staggered joints and 2 it would have helped with the alignment of the upper and lowers. Also as mentioned putting a piece or pieces inside at the lap helps with alignment, welding and strength.
Thanks! As for the A pillar strength, I did research and the recommended type of joint is a straight butt joint. I realize the other stuff may be stronger but for what I’m doing with the car this type of patch will be great. I appreciate you watching!
Hey John, good morning to you. Hey, check it out. When are you' gonna jump back on that Four Door Nova. I wanna see more progress. It's a super cool video. I know you will show all the naysayers. What's up? The car is already looking better. Actually, I think it's coming out better than you thought it was, and you only just started
You can install the A pillar bolted drip rails as a template for alignment/welding. Just bolt them on and they will help you a lot. Also the inner plastic mouldings can be used to check alignment.
Heck yea. Piece under gas pedal bolt plate and rear passenger frame rail. I seen you in this video with the piece of firewall and said to myself, hey shop209 would have what I need, lol. @@Shop209
Should have drilled holes in a pillar and plug welded some flat stock in, then you could’ve taken the a pillar and roof line off donor car and slid it onto the flat stock to help you line up the two post
If I was to do that on a windshield post I would take the time to build an inner structure and weld that in half way instead of butt welding it I would hate to see a chopped car get in a crash and someone getting there heads cut off
See... Now you done and gone and messed up.... Now you got me wanting to buy my buddies 75 4 door Skylark and cutting the top off and making it a 2 door roadster.
Really john, you say nothing about this is right, but if you think about it, What you're really doing is going to put the Interstructure of a Two door into it. So what's wrong about doing that? That's what you would have to do to make it a true two door.
excellent work on the nova! it reminds me of when we cut a 1972 long bed chevy down to a short bed. that was a fun project and it turned out great to boot. them I beams in your ceiling are massive for a shop that size! any logos rolled into the web?
Yeah. I didn’t want attic trusses because I wanted the upstairs as big as possible so we put in two 6”x 18”(I think) 30 ft steel beams. I plan to put another beam in for a gantry crane.
@@Shop209 A good friend of mine has a super clean 71 Nova, its a base car but all solid and 0 rust were got it his shop doing a good cleaning on the underchassis and installing a front disk brake kit, its been changed to a V8 350 ci with a cam and headders with a PG, its a really nice car for a 20 year old paint job. my shop has typical trusses and they interfere with my lifts I want to rebuild and go with scissor trusses. the largest beams we roll where I work are 14x8 and they are pretty massive. Ive really enjoyed the info on your channel too , thanks for taking the time to bring this info to the YT.
Definitely a first on a Nova that I've seen. Already coming together. Curious though, i have been looking for a lower A pillar where the hinges are for my car because it was in a wreck before. Would you part out any of that donor front piece?
hey man luv the show,,you've taught me a lot. Your the obi-won,of nova's,,.I'm about to start a build on a 73 nova,2 door, I always tampered with the idea of chopping the top 3'',and making it All wheel drive,,do you have any suggestions on what and or how i may be able to attempt it, if at all possible,,and as always,,it's on a budget..help me obi-won,yer my only hope..all the best..
Well, first, THANKS!! Now for your build, chopping the top is a BIG job. You’ll have to widen the roof in two directions and getting it straight is tough. As for AWD, I’ve thought about it. Maybe you could find a gmc safari or Chevy Astro can with the EXT package. They’re all wheel drive and you could use that drivetrain
@Shop209 yeah thank you,I first thought it possible because I seen a old Lincoln was an all wheel drive,,and the roof is what I thought,,I had a sub frame idea to hole everything together will I line the roof peaces up..pretty cool idea -A.ill keep you posted,,wish I could send pics of the progress..all the best and tks for your reply..
