In this video I demonstrate two different methods to flatten warped, buckled or cockled watercolor paper. Today we have a surprise appearance of a mother and baby deer getting lunch outside the studio. I hope you enjoyed the bonus wildlife footage. Please let me know if you liked this video or found the tips helpful. Enjoy your day! Happy Painting!

Awe your grandparents are so cute! What a great job you did!! They were all beautiful actually. And I loved the deer diversion :) we have families of deer that come through our property through the years...one time out back and young baby, mom and other little ones had passed, but one baby stayed and just was jumping around playing and having a blast, then dad, with his huge gorgeous rack, came through and watched him play for a while but then you could tell when dad was like "ok kid, we gotta get moving" and tried to lightly bonk him towards where the rest went and was patient for a bit, but then got more insistent and made the funny like shush blowing noise and the little responded real fast!! Then another time we came home in mid morning after an appt to find a tiny tiny baby in our long grass, just laying there...I loved learning that they have the those spots when tiny so that moms can hide them and it looks like dappled sun on them so they blend....but, it was almost 100 degrees out already and then I didn't know moms will fide there babies where they feel they're safe and go off and eat and come back and the baby will stay...so I was freaking out cuz it was SO hot and we couldn't see mom anywhere. We brought water out so she wouldn't get dehydrated (we didn't know any better ,just scared and didn't want her to die in the extreme heat) I took loads of pic's and called to try and learn what to do but also Googled it which is where I read that about the hiding and that even though we didn't see mom she wouldn't be more then something like 80 feet or so away . So we left again as did our son, so the house was empty, and when we came back baby and mom was gone...except later we saw them crossing our dirt road but the baby couldn't make the jump, so saw us watching and just walked right up to us and then mom came back made some noise and they were off. Our son is like the animal whisperer, dogs especially, but I swear all animals just love him, and he was out walking and a baby came up to him out of nowhere and he kneeled and she just nuzzle right into him and drank some water and he'd been sucking on a candy pop and it showed a lot of interest so he let her kick it a couple times and then she went back to just pushing her head through his arms and leaning up against him...I was so glad the friends he was with got a couple pic's, it was so sweet .I love seeing them But they aren't protected here which I hate..people know they absolutely cannot hunt on our 5 acres, but recently we saw an unfamiliar truck parked near the house and it honestly freaked me out safety wise as I'm home alone some. But apparently the neighbor gave him permission to walk through their land to up over the hill to hunt🥺😭I cried. But Chris (my husband) also wanted him to be sure he's waaaaaaay far so that no stray bullet come through the house or anything crazy. He was nice and I know its just a thing people do, but it still broke my heart :( Now who knows if we'll see our same families again through all these years :/ But great tips and beautiful work and fun to see those sweet happy deer :) Hope you have a great week!!!!

What a sweet and wonderful story you shared! Your son was so lucky to have that experience! I love these deer so much! In spite of them eating all the flowers that I plant! I've only lived her a year and I tried planting various flowers, sunflowers, roses, strawberries, etc. and the deer think I am serving them lunch! I will have to think of a better way to plant some flower next year. That was creepy that a hunter was hunting so close to your house. I would have been scared too! I'm glad you enjoyed this video with the deer cameo! They were out again today and I wanted to try to do some nature sketching, but my big ol' dog wanted to go outside and he scared them away. I ended up cleaning up outside instead. Cooking and cleaning take up so much of my time that I would rather spend painting, but those things must be done too. I hope you have a great rest of the week, and we both need to make time to paint something!

@@kimberlyhyltonart I thought was super special! This kid of mine...I say kid cuz he'll always be my kid even though he's almost 30😳😳😬🤣....but he loves all animals, though dogs are his favorite and they just somehow sense he's there to love them. He'll walk somewhere and even the owner is like "well, they don't like strangers" while the dog is pulling at their leash to get to him and its like they all just know how much he loves them. We've had 2 large dogs in the past, the first we got when he was just a little ittle boy and his very best bud, then later got a big Alaskan wolf/malamute mix, and she was supposed to me more like my puppy (I say puppy but she took up half the backseat of our Tahoe at 6 weeks) ... but, of course the moment she meets our son she's in love with him too.🤣 but they were all so cute of course never matters. And when he was gone all over doing volunteer disaster relief construction, then she stuck to my side ;) When we lost them to cancer (years apart of course) it was awful and we still can't bring ourselves to go through it again. I miss having pup's for sure, but I'm also not physically able to give them everything they'd need as far as walks n things so can't do that to them...but never say never ;) Always keep your phone ready for those fun deer sightings:) then at least you have a quick pic, even if through the window, before your pup needs to get out for some fun of his own ;) We grew up in California so, not much in the way of deer sightings, so yea, love seeing it all here and having the room around the house where they feel comfortable...except for the hunter 🥺 And yes, regular life definitely gets in the way of the fun art life we'd rather be doing!! Like I'll have a day when I think "ok, I feel ok enough so I definitely want to paint!!" Only to see the laundry or dishes or any number of things I should do first :/ It's hard because I know painting is good for me in so many ways, but I also can't fully relax or get into it when I see things I should be doing...since I work at my dining table, I can't ignore the kitchen disaster or the living room needing a cleanup:/ so gotta deal with it, but then that energy is way gone after the cleaning.....aahahhaahahaha!! So, yea, its hard to find a balance to do both for sure because both are important!! But yes, I hope we both find a bit of time here or there to do a bit of art to give us big smiles :)🥰

@@jadedenthusiasms That's really cool about the way your son has with animals! I'm an animal lover too! I've always had animals around me and have had just about every kind of pet available, including goats! I am from Kentucky, but we moved around a lot when I was young, I also lived in California when I was a kid. I have fond memories of it and would love to go back there one day. Cleaning gets in the way of fun for sure. I wanted to paint so bad yesterday that I just played around with some backgrounds for some Christmas cards. I really enjoy painting when I am painting something just to experiment. Those are just for fun, some work out, and some don't but I always learn something. And if nothing else, I had a little time of stress free fun! I hope we both can make some more quality time for ourselves this busy Holiday season! Have a great weekend!

@@kimberlyhyltonart that's so cool you also loved in California :) we're all from Southern California and after we got married we moved all over the west coast for work...then back to SoCal for a couple of years before coming to Tennessee, and my feeling aren't so fond, so other then needing to be there for family I have no interest. Difficult memories but also just so expensive and crowded. But there are beautiful things to see and fun thing to do there too. Yea, I made plans to draw or paint today but got caught up cleaning the kitchen and prepping lots of salad for us for the week and other veggies and by the time I was done I was exhausted and in lots of pain and it was later then I thought and then dinner and a movie and no art. But, hopefully tomorrow (sat) 🙄😏 I hope you're able to find the time for some art this weekend as well ;) Have a wonderful weekend!!!😁

@@jadedenthusiasms I was young when I was there so I didn’t really know how crowded it was. There was a lot of fun things to do. I didn’t get much time for art the past week. Trying to get ready for the holidays. Baking, cleaning, wrapping presents, more cleaning. After all of that the energy for painting is gone. Hopefully we can both find some time for ourselves this week. Take care and Have a Merry Christmas!
