It is the best simple advice for most people. You can do better than that though if you want to go deeper (Buffet himself doesn't just buy the S&P500, for example).

I worked at Kaiser in Northern California for 12 years they need all the help you can give them they waste money like no one’s business. If Mr Adam’s only knew how wasteful his peeps were his hair would turn white.
