3D Printing for Beginners 2 - Assemble, LEVEL & Test a Resin Printer:
In this step by step guide, I'll be unboxing a typical 3D resin printer, going through assembly and most importantly, ensuring that the build plate is LEVEL, before moving on to a UV array test.

I have the same printer & use the same slicer so I couldn't be happier. Your lessons are the best, nice & slow with time taken to explain your methodology & thinking, just perfect.

Having followed your channel for a while now, I'm pretty sure over the years you've unboxed just about every printer there is😁

Great video series to help those just starting out. I did notice a point about z=0 that was definitely confusing to me in the when I first started printing. It does not set the minimum hight the build plate can go down to. That is accomplished with an optical limit switch. Z=0 is an offset above that point to begin the first layer. The printer will still home to the limit switch when beginning a print and then rise to the z=0 height to begin the first layer.

You're absolutely right, but I was trying to keep it simple. 😁

I work with jewelry and I recently bought this printer....because my formlabs broke I'm very satisfied with her does everything a professional printer should do and on top of that with low maintenance and resin costs!

I'm curious if you have an opinion on tables for setting up the resin printing setup? Would a metal stainless steel table be a good idea for cleanup? Any particular size?
@vogman
@vogman Год назад
I've no real preference for table type, but a good wipeable surface is a must. You'll always spill resin, no matter how careful you are. I'd also recommend a Wham Bam slap mat (or similar) as these work well. Since I've had mine I've found I tend to naturally contain my mess to the mat, and cleanup there is easy. Have a look at this video and skip to 4:57 I think ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kqFmf_PqoOg.html where I mention mine. After that, I think you see it in all my videos 😁

Looking like a good series. A topic I'd appreciate would be on "gut feel" for supports in resin printing. I've done plenty of FDM printing and have a decent understanding of what I can (or can't) get away with when it comes to supports and overhangs in a model. I tried slicing a model of a dragon in Lychee (for my Mars 3), which then passed the output to UVTools. UVTools reported all sorts of errors related to islands and unsupported areas; so does that mean Lychee's automated supports are insufficient? Does it mean that UVTools is overly sensitive? I guess I could just try printing the model to see what happens, but obviously I might just be wasting resin.
@vogman
@vogman 2 года назад
Supports is certainly a topic I'll be covering 😁

Good Video - Did I miss you mention that you should always install a screen protector?

That's a fair point. I didn't mention that here, but it's a worthy mention elsewhere. Thank you 😁

I've been wanting to get into 3D printing for a while and I'm torn between this Elegoo and the Voxelab Aquila.
@vogman
@vogman 2 года назад
Ooo... FDM vs Resin. That's a choice only you can make. FDM = slow, poor detail, cheaper, fairly strong, better suited for practical printing than fine quality printing. Resin = faster, bit smelly, easier than FDM (in my opinion - hence these tutorials), messy, great for high quality (like miniatures, jewellery, model making, etc). These are just SOME of the considerations. Personally I love Resin, but there's plenty that love FDM 😁
@iritian
@iritian 2 года назад
@@vogman I feel like I'll end up having both in the long run haha. I'm slightly leaning towards getting the Aquila first due to lower costs involved. The learning curve for FDM is one of the things I'm weirdly looking forward to. Can't help but feel like I'm going to learn a lot of new skills in the process.

Good sir, there was a button at 6:30 for Tank clean - could you please go over this and general maintenance areas?
@vogman
@vogman 2 года назад
Cleaning is a topic I've already listed, so I will be covering it. But for now... the Tank Clean blasts the tray with UV and sets hard any resin still inside where in theory it can be safely peeled off. It's not a method I use as when I have resin stuff on the FEP I can never get it off - but that's the theory 😁😁😁

One question that I have that no one seems to want to answer........what drawing/drafting programs can be used for 3D printers?
@vogman
@vogman 2 года назад
Any. Pretty much most CAD type software can save creations as STL or OBJ. From there it's into a Slicer and then a printer. Again this is all stuff I hope to be including in my tutorial series, provided there's enough interest of course. If I end up talking to myself, I'll take the hint and stop 😁 But just as an example, have a look here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QkR2x0LvYqw.html where I started a design in Fusion 360, refined it in ZBrush, printed it in ordinary resin to prove the concept, then print it in castable resin and converted it to bronze.

How come they say resin is harder than filament printers> Seems the other way around to me.

I honestly think Resin printing is easier than FDM 😁
