I’ve had my eye on the TH8A for a while, my budget speaks thrustmaster so seeing these mods takes care of the concerns I’ve heard of. Definitely have to buy now
I have this shifter and similar mods installed. If you can get this for under $100 then I would say solid buy. But honestly i would look at the SHH shifter for the similar price. Cant go wrong with either choice imo.
@@bluex610 would the SHH shifter stock be better than the modded thrustmaster? The SHH in canada is $160 and the trustmaster is $250 plus all the mods I'd have to do
I know this video is old. I have the th8a and instead of buying these mods I wish I sold it and went for VHM Shifter. These mods and the shifter put you in a range of a complete other level of shifters cost wise. If you already have a th8a for a few years and just want to upgrade then these are solid. There is also a guy on ebay that sells shorter shifter rods. Which i ended up doing instead of the the ricmotech plate. There is a difference. The ricmotech plate for short throw changes the dynamic of the throws. Where if you shorten the shifter rod its a true short throw shifter. Also it was $20 American for 3 different shorter shifter rods you can literally change the throws to your liking. Where Ricmotech has just one size plate for $35. Now I do agree the rubber gromet helped this shifter enormously. In the end I wish I sold the TH8a and went to another, by the time you add all the upgrades and cost of shifter VHM is the way to go.
#1 danboy fanboy tom here. I haven't even watched the video and feel the need to post. I have nothing to say other than it will be great to be able to say..."I knew Dan when he only had 12.3K subs, not the 2.1mill he has now" :) later dan
My shifter is on the way and both these mods..ricmo should sponsor you..thanx for info! I can’t want for my shifter!! It’s going on my t150pro and gonna be on ps5...built the rest of my rig and it’s solid! Stoked!! THANKYOU!!
@@DanDiMaggio do you have to open it up and periodically lube the piece or does the lube/grease last the life of the shifter? Not many install videos. I’m sure the direction will suffice..
@@billygames7107 I believe there was some grease to add initially but after that I never needed to open it back up. Installation was a breeze and never had any issues after the install.
*Adds component to shorten gear to make it faster* "now we will add resistance to make it more difficult" 😂 all jokes aside I want the modifications they are pretty sweet
I like the shifter. I just talk my self out of getting one, when ever I had the extra money. But now that I participate in a casual racing league, I actually have a need for a gated shifter with sequential functionality. Looks like I will be getting a TH8A in the near future.
bro but the long ways to get from gear to gear is just reallistic isn‘t it? i mean a real transmission is feeling a lil rubbery and not that perfect like with the th8a shifter so i‘ll love to see a mod for this shifter that makes it a lil bit unperfect u know?❤️
the Th8a shifting travel not as far as my Fiat 500 Abarth stock shifter, the real car shifter is even worser than a sim shifter lol. I am going to do the mod you just show in the video, hope the toy is going to be better than my real car shifter. cool video, thanks man.
@@FartOnPinecones yeah, I have just replace my shifter with the 500 Madness short shifter, it is way better, now I can finally feel like shifting a sport car instead of a Truck.
thank you for the video. Would you still recommend the sequential mod today? I mean is it still working fine? I am thinking of getting either ricmotech SSM or Heusinkveld SS which is better but also a lot more expensive.
Great mods, definitely worth the price for the feel. If you're more strapped for cash theres cheaper mods on Ebay. But ricmotechs looks a lot better imo and worth the extra price. Dont forget to add grease for the tactile feel mod. Also you think you can get a SHH Shifter and compare it to this modded TH8A? I'm thinking of grabbing one and using this for sequential or handbrake mode. Thnx and great video.
Sometimes it takes up to 30 seconds (or even more) for the game to respond and change gears when I'm using the th8a, let's say after 1 or 2 laps. Tested it on GT Sport, F1 2019, F1 2020 and Project Cars 2. Any idea what the reason could be?
Check the firmware and make sure the connections aren’t loose anywhere. I had trouble with my wheel’s power cord being loose from time to time. Best of luck.
I tried out my Mishimoto weighted shift knob from my daily on the th8a and It didnt feel like it had enough tension to return to center reliably with the extra weight. edit: After seeing the rubber grommit resistance mod that he did to it; I don't think there would be any problem using a weighted knob. (granted that you use that resistance mod.)
As I am watching your video I am shifter my TH8A shifter, and I am sorry, it doesn't seem to throw that much farther or have that much less resistance than over $50 US of mods will make it, especially after spending $350+ CND for it.
Nice idea to use the shifter plate from Ricmotech, however, you can do this cheaper if you have a 3D printer: you can 3D print a short throw shifter plate.
a better short throw shifter plate can be found here: www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-7-Speed-Short-Throw-Shifter-Plate-for-Thrustmaster-TH8A-Shifter/303311632731? and you can adjust the shift actuation point through software calibration from thrustmaster
@@billygames7107 not for the price they go for, easier to find someone with 3d printer and pay them to print those mods. Im lucky cuz i got 3d printer myself, total cost of producing both of those is less than 6$
@@billygames7107 you might have to recalibrate the shifter when you install short throw mod, i had to adjust it slightly as it wouldn't pickup some gears properly.
