Well I've been using the 1111 ever since your video (used your promo code too thanks for that btw) but i also grabbed the new nameless X. I use a 9 string ranging in tunings from D1 to A0 and the 1111 is perfect for those lows... BUT i like the nameless X for the high end.
@docrockland9464 that’s my exact situation with the Bass VI. It’s been living in A0 so using those 2 the way I did in this video is how I’ve been having the most luck
I would love the separate video on phase. I've tried mixing amps sound while quad tracking guitars and had trouble with phase alignment. Using plugins to do phase alignment will match up a stereo pair, but I can't seem to figure out how to align all 4. Keep in mind that I am an idiot, but more insight into how to do it correctly would be dope!
Love seeing BLOWN OUT WALL here - made it as a plugin representation of my own custom tones that I have been using for the last decade or so and finally wanted to make it into a product for the DAW. Released it last fall -- was good timing too because then this spring and summer it is now in vogue. 😎 Great vid as always Brendon!
Unfortunately the excessive things are what brings the mixes from good to great. Things like automation and tedious phase alignments and everything like that. It definitely sucks to put the extra time into everything but I think you’ll be stoked with the results. Always make sure to check the phase to make sure it’s in the right ballpark
@@BrendonKPadjasekdepends alot if you ask me. Might be because of my own standards. But i have gotten some pretty decent results with not alot of plug ins. But i wont say no to playing around with how i do my mixes 😊 Automation and phase alignment its an absolute must for sure. No reason in denying that!
@@BrendonKPadjasek also what i mean by excessive is using 30 different EQ plug ins for a result that basically only you and the minority of people with good ears are gonna notice. Its not a dig at those who does it, but i wont ever subscribe to the idea of that being necessary
@sebastianviuf yeah sometimes I also have great luck with super simple set ups and technically the more tracks, to more possibilities of phase getting weird so you’re not wrong at all
can you do a video on tunings and the different ways to make impossible chords in one tuning possible in another as i feel it would be very educational and i love trying weird tunings that allows stange riffidge
@@BrendonKPadjasek im talking about intro, verse, chorus and all that stuff, I notice im lacking information in that particular area because my songs sound kinda repetitive and bored
I started doing this recently, I use the gojira plugin and petrucci or tim henson plugin. I use gojira mainly for the agressive tone I want and peteucci or tim henson plugin for the low end which makew a big heavy tone
also the vid on phase would be good for allot of people even if you dont get allot of comments about it im sure it would help people who come past the vid
I've played around with combinations of so many amp sims over the years it's hard to remember which ones sounded the best. I do remember mixing Otto II II II II with some Aurora DSP plugins and it sounding very good, along with ML Sound Lab IR's. I did create a tone for a second guitar part that uses Achetype Abasi and the free plugin from Aurora called Goblyn that sounds incredible. A video on phase would be a great idea if we're talking about mixing three different amp sims 👍
Never heard of Aurora. Theres so many companies and amp sims it’s crazy. Were so spoiled for choice haha. I definitely will be filming that asap since it seems like an interesting point for a lot of people so far
@@BrendonKPadjasek Nice, I think it's an important topic to cover, looking forward to it 👍 As for Aurora, they have some great amp sims and other plugins either for free or really reasonably priced. I love their bass amp sims.
I don't play shows, but I don't personally subscribe to making recording sound like concerts. I'd rather make it sound as good and pleasing as possible. As well as match the vibe of the music.
Straight out of the box man, Amped Roots is one of the best amp sims outs there. It's definitely my second favorite, and has a completely different sonic quality to it than Otto Audio (which is my favorite). As an extra bonus the Amped Roots plugin is free.
@@dairemccann6854 I didn’t mix the album , Zakk Cervini did and I’m 99% sure he used his STL tone hub presets, either that or the kemper ones. I’m fairly sure it was the tone hub though
Im really interested in the phase video and how would you go for the best possible phase coherence on different instruments. Also with this technique u send all the track to one specific ir or cab or different ones what suits what you need?
Bro, besides the ProQ3, which other plugins do you recommend to solve that shitty phase issue while blending so many amp sims? I saw some other videos where people used AutoAlign 1 and 2, but is it possible that you can do a video comparing some other plugins to solve that problem?
Absolutely. I actually use a UAD plugin called IBP, but you can manually move the double guitars by 1 sample at a time and listen to what you think sounds best. There's a point where many options can be in phase, but its just what you want most out of the sound. I believe every DAW has a plugin with that phase flip option. Usually it's in an EQ. In Ableton its called Utility. As long as you see that O with a / through it (the underoath symbol)
unrelated question but what kind of picks do you like to use for those bridge cables?? I find myself really liking 1.0mm but I've heard some players enjoy lighter
I’m not 100% what size it is but I like the yellow Dunlop. I think it’s .73. I also like the orange which I think is .64 or something Also LOL at bridge cables
@@BrendonKPadjasek Word I know those yellow guys, I remember an insta story where Keaton from Invent said he used the same thing, def gonna have to give them a shot now. Thanks for the rec man!
@blacklight633 no problem. It’s all preference. I remember Aaron Marshall used to use the thickest picks I’ve ever seen in my life. Not sure if he still does
Very cool videos. I've been enjoying your content for a while now. I have issues dialing in a good guitar tone. My music is a mix of sludge and downtempo deathcore, going from tunings like Drop A and Drop G to Drop F#. For my tones, I'm using NDSP Archetype Gojira X. But I can't seem to get a good guitar tone out of it, that blends sludge and downtempo deathcore stuff. Do you have any tips on what to do? Thank you very much in advance! 😁
@@martingraf1338 thanks for the kind words. Hmm which pedal are you using before the amp? I haven’t had a chance to try the Gojira one but if heard it’s kick ass
@@BrendonKPadjasek I just put the OD with gain all the way down, level all the way up and tone to taste. Archetype Gojira is sick. You can get really nasty with it, even with the presets
@martingraf1338 it’s tbh impossible for me to say without hearing it haha. I always use the technique in this video so if one amp sounds like it’s lacking I throw another to fill it out
Wouldn't it be more efficient to send the DI's to the amp tracks instead of having multiple copies of the same DI's? Or are you using different takes for each amp? Great video btw!
I have tried that but get weird latency issues sometimes. This is my fool proof way in Ableton. That would definitely work for my mixing system in Pro Tools though. I guess I’m just used to it this way nil have to try it out Thanks for checking it out!
Hahaha thank you! I don’t know if you watch the Corridor Crew channel but it’s their merch. Since I use resolve I felt it a must. Super nervous wearing it on client video shoots though lmao
@@BrendonKPadjasek yeah I feel that. I like this tutorial cause when you were talking about constantly eqing and then something else sounds off, that is totally me
I'm still in the quest for the best amp combination possible, I like the Otto, the nameless, the Omega and the MLC sub zero, I wish I could use them all at once😅 what would you suggest would be a good pairs out of those 4
@@dev4965 that would be brutal haha, on choruses/breakdowns and in general parts where I want to sound bigger I do have a third or forth guitar guitar but for faster riffs I keep it simple
I’ve been loving the Otto and the nameless / NTS. I don’t have any experience with the others unfortunately but I feel like any 2 amps together are better than one if you use the strengths of both of them
It can still be simple with quads! I find it basically always sounds bigger, but doubling the guitar and doing this technique works for parts where you don’t want to go that far
@@BrendonKPadjasekiv been finding that when i lower around 2.5k i raise a little at 3k and it sounds really good i think it does something to the phase like it cancels out more freq inbetween
@@BrendonKPadjasekiv noticed that it sounds really good when i lower 2.5k that i raise a little at 3k i think it does something to the phase and it cancels out the freq inbetween
@Durkhead yeah there’s just a lot of guitar noise in the frequencies. Definitely sounds much cleaner in the note definition. I used to scoop my low mids and now I scoop my high mids haha
