Since sleeping in a canoe on the water by myself wasn't enough...now there's two of us sleeping while drifting down the lake. This is canoe camping on a different level. There were no bugs or mosquitos while camping and every other campsite was full. We did get rained on, but the canoe was stable.

The highly visible elevated stern lamp at unsheltered mooring can prevent sudden death by alcohol fueled jet ski.

Absolutely. I don't believe I showed it on this one, but we did use glow sticks. This was also a fairly remote lake with a pretty difficult to reach boat ramp.

This is awesome🏆👍 but yet again I've already done two to the boat for the overnight I've only done it once and the girl that camped with me is all of 101lbs but we slept the same direction not had to toe like a backpack tent only issue sleeping pad wasn't quite wide enough so one of us ended up always on the edge

Was that tippy sleeping side by side and weighing different amounts?

Maybe it should be "we don't have to worry....as much....about bears". We figured they would be considerably more tempted to go after food that's easier to get rather than swimming out into a lake.

@@AdventuresInReach it was a joke. bears are big pushovers anyway! I've still been scared shitless when I walked into a blackbear at night. Fortunately he was scared too and ran off.

Lol, two people sleeping in one canoe is way too complicated! One person in a 15 foot Grummie with a 36 inch beam works well, but two in a long, skinny Wenonah? Uh, big no! Things I do: -I have a tarp clipped to the gunnels with book binder clips, which pop off easily if I need them to. Cover the whole canoe or get wet! Leave one end of it elevated to allow for ventilation. - I don’t use a bag. I just use a closed foam mat and a blanket. Of course PA is a lot warmer than MN. - I take a flushing camp toilet along. One of the benefits of a nice beamy canoe. - my Old Town tandem kayak works even better than my Grummie. - never ask for permission to canoe camp. If you need to, just have a fishing line hanging from a pole all night. It may be against the rules to boat camp over night, but so have never seen and regs forbidding falling asleep while fishing. BTW, I get fewer interruptions if so don’t have a hook or bait on my line🤣

I love the fishing tip. I'm in favor of creative ways to get around things as long as it's not causing harm. That's probably smart to just use a blanket, although I probably would have been cold. Maybe one of those new backpacking quilts would be a good fit. I could just leave my bag unzipped if I do this again in the summer. We didn't even consider a toilet since there was a privy at one end of the lake and figured we could go there if needed. Besides--two in a canoe is exactly conducive to taking a dump. Awkward. We knew we would get wet if it rained (although I stayed dry in my bivy) but the percentage for the chance of rain was low...we saw how that turned out. Are you saying that you sleep in your tandem kayak? That sounds like it would be more tippy than the Grumman.

@@AdventuresInReach my kayak is an Old Town tandem Loon 160. It is 16 feet long and has a beam of 30 inches. It is amazingly stable for a kayak. My kids call it “The Barge”, which really isn’t fair, as it actually paddles quite well. My niece is a professional photographer, and she loves the easy ride it provides. Sleeping in it is quite comfortable and secure. When it comes to porta potties, the East Coast isn’t as empty as the North can be, and barrier islands either lack any cover or are infested with disease infested mosquitos hoards. People who visit us from ME, MN or AK always say that they know all about mosquitos, and aren’t concerned by them. Then we actually get out on the barrier islands and they quickly discover that coastal mosquitos are a different kind of bird altogether! Being totally self contained out on the water makes coastal cruising a lot easier. And less painful.

Well as long as it doesn't rain or you have to go number 2 very bad. Might be ok.

I'll take that! It's half the fun. There was a moment when my wife and I were paddling a canoe with 6 dogs, camping gear, and outriggers in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2Zz8EbxOhm8.html and we were cracking up laughing about how nuts we were as evidenced by the 2 boats full of people fishing who turned to stare and talk about us. We were a little self-conscious at first but then just thought it was hilarious and added to the goofy adventure. Owning the nuttiness, being different, and knowing that you are doing something unique and truly adventurous is half the fun!
