Hey Shawn, Believe I told you in a comment on one of your other videos that I had those original ones long time ago. I was 10, now 66. Very close to the first real drums I ever had. They are just beautiful and what memories. Got'm for Christmas and hardly messed with any other presents I got. Kept them until Ludwig came out with the Vista Lites. I traded my Ringo Black Oyster Pearl ones for blue Vista's trying to go John Bonham style. Wish I knew now what I didn't really know then for sure! Even my local music store guy seemed to try to talk me out of the trade with him. I should have listened or even better, just kept them and bought the Vista's outright. Dang it man! I've even thought seriously on re-wrapping the Ludwigs I have now with Black Oyster Pearl. But...Just wouldn't be the same. You sure find the most cool stuff. I love these vids! Well, at least I've never bought or traded for anything but Ludwigs but absolutyly love all the other vintage brands you come up with. My Favorites! Keep the Beat goin' brother Shawn!
Well, Shawn, it looks like you hit the jackpot once again, and when you win, we the viewers win. Thank you for sharing your 2 great finds with us.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
The best sounding/playing set I ever played was a Club Date just like those.Same time period. A house set at a Senior Center in Port Richie,Fla. back around 1982.They let me take it home to do some repairs. The Pioneer snare was absolute perfection. I will never forget the residents dancing 20's style while playing those drums.
Nice sets man. I know what you mean about gluing the wrap. That's the only way to go in my book. It has to effect the sound of the drum not being glued.
Thanks brother 🙏 it's the only way I'll wrap a set! If you are going to do all the work and spend the $ why not do it the way it's been done forever. I've seen many Asian kits with only tape bubble and get wavy after time. Just my opinion though.
right now I've got a 20/12/15 club date...(12/20 are early...red muffler with WFL stamps in the claws but no badges and fresh paint on the insides so no sdate stamps. Couldn't find a 14x14 for it bur was able to find a trans badge 15x12 for it...killer sounding floor tom. This week I found a kit at Klash drums...13/22 club date with trans badges and a 14x14 floor tom. Had to get it...return the 14 to the 12/20 and place the 15 in it's righful place with the 13/22...Gotta play em first,,,might have to let one go...not sure yet...I've also picked up a Super classic project that need spome serious work,
I Dig those. Can’t help thinking, while taking the old wrap off that first kit, I hope the guy didn’t pull off any wood! Eeeeesh… Not trying to be a downer, though. We just have these thoughts ya know. That Club Date is piiiiiimp! Thanks for the video!
He should've laquered it as natural woodtone. These kits are like a classic vehicle, they're only original once. So if you're going to strip off the original wrap, don't try to be the Ludwig factory by rewrapping, because they never turn out as good as they did originally from Ludwig.
