Chris, thanks for the techniques. I have been trying to create the swoosh by trying to swing the club head faster. After watching your video I tried focusing on accelerating my ARMS thru the ball and let the club head react to that motion. I found focusing on accelerating my arms was easier than focusing on the club head. My task now is syncing the body rotation and the accelerating arms to maximize the efficiency of motion and the quality of the ball strike. What I would add to your presentation is to relax your body, especially the wrists, arms and shoulders. Relaxed muscles move faster than tense muscles. When standing over a golf ball, the mind tends to think otherwise.
something that always stuck with me was advice to change my mentality. "Think about swinging FASTER, not HARDER" made for much faster swing speed and accuracy. led to me rotating faster to increasing torque. I was always trying to muscle through and that changed me.
That makes sense I just started playing golf last year and I've been trying to hit harder which has killed my distance but I tried swinging faster and I've gained some distance without really changing much
7i 84mph and driver 98mph on Trackman. Looking to push both up a few mph to 87 and 101 by my 61st later this year :-) I start my acceleration and release too early and lose speed by impact so I think these exercises could help shift the timing a little later and retain speed through impact. Thanks Chris.
I acquired these golf swing stra tegies , Jοmtοnο Naha (Go ogle it), read it in 1 evening, and the following day at the driving range put it into practice. I was astonished when I immediately strike my irons with right divots with solid impact. I was striking approximately 10-15 yards farther with my irons than I was accustomed to. Get yours now!
Chris, nice video, I'll try this. The studies I've seen suggest that your average mid handicapper swings the driver at about 95 mph and a seven iron at about 75 mph. The average speeds don't increase that much when you get to low handicaps. This suggests that either the studies are wrong or you have a lot of above-average golfers watching your channel🤔. According to my Swing caddie my average 7i speed is about 75 mph, up to about 80 on the odd occasion my timing is spot on. Haven't measured the driver speed. I'm 21 hcp
Great demonstration with two very good drills. Driver speed is between 80 and 85 7 iron approximately 65. I would recommend for anybody trying to pick up more speed make sure you have the Golf Club shafts that are suited for that speed. More distance is great as long as you are not giving up Direction
I used to carry my driver 240 and 7i 150. Today I can’t get my driver to carry 150 today. Not hyperbole. I’ve spent the last two years trying to find my way back. My speed for both driver and 7i is 60 mph.
You are not alone in this problem and its just about to drive me away from the game. I hit my PW 50 yds at times and never more than 80. If you find a cure let me know but Im afraid there is not one...Its physical and im just as likely to dunk a basketball as I am to hit the ball far again.
Had a launch monitor session yesterday, in fact. Didn't hit a 7 iron, but I hit an 8, and my CHS with the 8 was right around 70 mph. Driver was around 82-83, topped out at 86.
I'm a senior golfer. According to TrackMan, my average driver club head speed is 87-88 mph. What is the minimum speed required to hit a 3 wood "well" in the fairway?
On a BLP I had a 161.5 mph ballspeed, with an 111 clubhead speed and it said it carried 301……im pretty certain, as accurate as a BLP seems to be, that is wrong. Most charts I read say that those specs don’t measure up to a 301 carry, but whatever it would be I think would be decent still. Id say the average clubspeed is about 108, why I’m here. I am trying to get to 115 but highly doubt it at 53….😂
My driver is 108 and my 70 iron is 75 to 80. I don’t get the disparity. I started golf last June. I’m 12 handicap. I’m very inefficient with my irons and driver, low smash factors, I’m only decent 100 yards in. Very frustrating. I definitely swing with my arms. Hopefully these drills will work
I have been golfing for around 20 years, unable to break 90. 3-4 years back, I couldn’t attain an exceptional round but that was prior to I read through the golf swing strategies , Jοmtοnο Naha (Go ogle it). My irons aren`t that good. My drive does not attain an incredible distance but I am able to properly hold my driver with no problem.
6 iron club head speed 81.7 mph. Driver club head speed not recorded on Trackman report but ball speed 136.2 m.p.h. Biggest fault poor body rotation in impact zone, causing flipping action with wrists.
I will be 70 very soon playing off 6, dropped down to a regular shaft, my driver speed is now 90 from a peak of 110 in my prime, I would like to get back to speed of 94/5/6, but can't seem to move it up.
I managed to secure a 73-point shot after reading, rehearsing, and performing the steps found in golf swing tricks , Jοmtοnο Naha (Go ogle it). I was also able to strike 13-18 greens and that was the greatest one I had ever since I started playing. On the other five holes, I got close to striking 5-10 yards with the green. My handicap is a nine so I don`t sho ot 73s on a regular basis. It has been actually a very long time ever since I made an outstanding round..
Right after reading these golf swing techniques , Jοmtοnο Naha (Go ogle it) and exercising the drills as I read, I went out and also shot a seventy three. I also managed to strike 13-18 greens and that was the finest one I had ever since I began golfing. I also almost strike the green with a distance of Five to 10 yards on the other 5 holes. My handicap is a nine so I do not sho ot 73s on a regular basis. When I think it over, I haven’t had an exceptional round for years.
I know I am late to this show but I lost club head speed from 113 to 100 and in the process there goes 50 yards off the tee. Down to 240 carry from 290. I am 57 years young.
Only know ball speeds as per top tracer. So ball speed driver about 128mph, 7i about 100mph, is there a ratio figure to work out club speed from ball speed?
Chris, suggestion for a course management video (best for you to make when the weather is warmer); how about a course vlog in which you play, say, 9 holes. But for every shot, provide commentary on why you're choosing that shot for the situation you are in, and how you prepare to execute it. Part 2: okay, so after posting this comment I found a couple of course vlogs you've done. Good job; how about a few more? :)
Newbie here, have only golfed 3 times so far. Due to the pandemic, I can not get lessons, so I’m researching the best I can. THANKS for the technique tip! Can’t wait to try it out.
love the part about the timing since I always used to use my arms from the top. I do have quite good clubhead speed carrying my 7 iron about 180 yards but my driver tends to fly not as far as it should with that kind of speed. Even when I hit it centered and have a good attack angle it only goes about 230 yards and I feel like with a 180 yard 7 Iron that should be further :/ Any tips?
I'm in a similar situation, but my 7i isn't quite as long (170 carry). What I have noticed is FEEL like I'm not carrying the same amount force/acceleration. I'm pretty sure I'm taking a larger/longer backswing with my driver trying to get more speed but I'm getting stuck. Working on shortening that up
Good swing and instruction. Very slow motion video of your swing demonstrating your teaching points would be very helpful especially at impact. Even going thru the full moments in a very very slow fashion would be great! Thanks.
Great video. My driver - Callaway Rouge LS speed is ~110-115mph My 7 iron - Titleist T200 is ~90mph. Happy with my speeds but would like to improve smash factor. Any tips on improving this to translate high speeds into more distance? Average current smash factor is around 1.42. Cheers, Shay
That is absolutely, far and away, the best teaching video I have ever seen. And probably the only drill you will ever need. Can only improve every single golfer out there. If it does, then you should all send this man a thank you, because he is worth it. What a marvellous way to simplify golf into one single combination swing thought. I worship you from afar, Chris! Ya know, there is a distinct sound that you hear from professional golfers while watching them play as they hit a ball. I've been looking for how to recreate that sound because it's just so satisfying and obviously whatever makes that sound while professionals swing is working well for them. I realize now what I'm hearing is The impact of the ball followed quickly by the swishing noise of the club Aside from that, great advice and examples for practicing on " hitting through " the ball. I feel like so many instructors say that player should hit through the ball but don't ever actually break it down like this.
My club head speed is 75mph and I'm 75 on xmas day! but seriously I need to be driving from my present150-165 yds and get to 200yds - is that a reasonable ask?
im currently swinging 60-70mph for my 7iron, and 70-80mph for my driver. i just started this year and apparently only using my arms for speed. thanks for the information on improving.
Hi Chris, I don't know my club speed, only thing I know is my driver hit around 170 meters, and my 7 iron hit around 140 meters. This is my present distance. However it goes around 10 to 20 meters more with my driver.
7 iron - 94 mph / Driver 107 mph. Happy with the 7 iron, would like to see 112-115 with my driver...which I had 10 years ago 😄 Will give your drill a go...
Chris, Club head speed for Driver 97mph and 7 Iron 85mph. Just watched your Long iron vs Hybrid video and suggested you do one on increasing swing speed, D'oh. Cheers, Rolf
Great swing Chris but I tried this rotary swinging left type swing and being 69 and in pretty good knick, I have put out lower right side of my back which is in spasm. My doctor told me that the back is not designed to be compressed on either the right (or left if you are a leftie) side of the lower back and I should not try and replicate the swing you show. Even too tour players such as Tiger, Rory, Rose and Day have all had lower back problems and they are young guns. Your thoughts........?
I’m all over the place with drivers speed. 79 to 95 mostly but occasionally 102 I’ve reached. Very inconsistent and most missed are a pull hook or pull draw.
Greetings, thanks Chris, superb instruction yet again, driver swing speed is 89 and 7 iron is 68 mph, possibly an old fossil at 66 years old, h/cap 14.
Yet another great video Chris. You explain things better than any coach I know, including me. Keep up the great work so enjoyable to listen to and watch your videos
Great video. Driver around 93mph. This video helps me understand the transition and sequence like never before. I have been accelerating too early. Thank you.
Without the topic of releasing the golf club and eliminating early extension, you just demonstrated them in the drills. Otherwise the whoosh would not be created on the left side of impact. Just getting the most of your videos. Thank you!
