I agree 1000%. The manufactures profit heavily off foolish buyers that waste money on 12,000 rpm hockey puck piston motors that are total junk. And then those wonderful junky TPI 2 stroke motors...!!! Don't get me started.. !!! CARBED 2 stroke are the epitome in reliability. Now air cooled 4 strokes are reliable so if you want a decent 4 stroke then stick with them.
@@carlatamanczyk3891 Haven't had a single issue with my 21 TPI 300. I know some have, but it is far from the norm with normal maintenance. It also works really well with elevation changes. My son's carb'd bike on the other hand was another story. An electron carb fixed that issue. I love carb'd bikes. Don't get me wrong. But the tpi bike is good. Here's a vid for you from Cole: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bvh9aE5lGYo.html
This is a fun subject. 4-stroke is the new 2-stroke. More affordable, extremely reliable. The modern 250's have to be ridden to understand. I will never get back on a tpi made with china ktm. Tpi bikes are a hot mess of Chinese parts and pressure sensors. Rotella sucks!
@@Leick42 I went from a new 22 huskavarna tpi bike to a 22 yz250fx. I did have to make a few changes to make it comfortable for me up here in the rocky mountains. Suspension revalved, heavy GTYR fly wheel and a throttle cam that eliminates the on off feeling. I've got about 10 hours on the YZFX now, It's smoother, less fatiguing and faster everywhere than my state of the the art 2022 TE150I was. I immediately noticed the fx felt lighter once moving than the TE150I, It's way more flickable for some reason. Additional significant benefits, Much higher cruising speed so I can get to the BLM land without loading it into my truck. Gets what seems like almost twice the fuel economy. The yzfx lists weight wet and ready to ride, so ultimately not much heavier than the lightest TPI bikes. I would normally agree with Morgan about 4 stroke dirt bikes not sounding the best, but this 250FX rev's to the moon and sounds beautiful doing it, It's almost concerning how high this engine revs, but it always sounds great. Something else about the Yamaha is on rough terrain nothing rattles or shakes, it's well engineered. My huskavarna sounded like a K-mart mountain bike on the rough stuff.
Got one of each now thanks for my buddy who has one of each, they're just different that's the truth! It's like horses, maybe riding the old trusted quarter horse versus the spirited Arab! Wet fart, you got my wife cracking up with that one!
I have purposely raced a KTM 300 for 250 hours on a top end just to prove a guy wrong and other than i slight loss of power after around 175 hours it still ran great. I'm with you 100-150 hours is a good time to swap a piston!
I got back in the game many years ago with a crf450. Then a cr500. Then another cr500, then another cr500, then a kx500. Then sold the crf450. Then a ktm300xcw. Still hoarding all my 2 strokes! 😬
Ride both (450xcf, 250xcw, now 250ec gasgas) all are fun but two stroke is way more fun. 4stroke drives you while 2stroke is more nimble, smells and sounds better to. If your riding track sure 4stroke but for tight single track…. Two stroke all day. It’s like a front wheel drive bs rear wheel😂
4 stroke for life... My mate brand new 2020 2 stroke 1st ride out can't start.. Bike does in the dunes.. Jetted horribly from dealer.. Me.... Push button and go😜
I primarily ride very hard single track, and wouldn’t want anything other than a 2 stroke. Simply for the weight savings, and heat management. The few people I ride with on 4 strokes are always having overheating issues. Not to mention the heat they give off to the rider. For wide open desert riding, 4 stroke all day!
If I were you I would not put a rekluse on because out of the box the engine and transmission are just fine when you just dropped 2 k on suspension! The 6500s sounds like a kyb kit. Getting rid of the air forks is 1st. The spring and spring kit run 600s . The bladder kit is also mandatory because of the long rides. 15 minutes at Washougal is a piston thing. Desert woods rides go for hours at a time. A local shorty is 2 hours.
I got a 22 TC250 in April. Haven't really been riding since I was 11 yesterday old. I'm 45 now. The TC250 was a screaming Banshee. I put in the Green Spring in power valve and Flywheel weight 9oz. It's so uch more rideable now. I went from being disillusioned with its abrupt power curve to ecstatic with the newfound rideability. So stoked about my 2 stroke!
I had to laugh about the 4 stroke line, I think they are great when someone else owns them. I ride with a buddy who owns a 250 and 350 ktm 4 stroke, I let him ride my 300 ktm and he went out and bought a 300.
Four strokes sound like a fat guy farting into a can . It was a nerdy EPA guy that forced bike makers to go to four strokes to save baby seals or some crap . So while his electric car consumes mountains of coal to make electricity we lose the milage range of gasoline automobiles . Never let a hippy or a fem guy make cars . PK
Came from cr 125 and then yz 250 two stroke. I have been riding a yz 450 f for 4 years now and I couldn't be happier. No more high side crashes on dry gnarly tracks due to powerband hit. So far my 450 has been cheaper to maintain all things considered. Don't know about higher revving 250 4 t's though. Got a magnetic sump plug and do oil filter checks after every ride to make sure to catch parts for wear. Two strokes very unpredictable and difficult to diagnose engine health due to naturally smoking of engines, having no oil filters, old crank seals leading to lean conditions and almost always ruined nikasil in barrels. So for me it's 450 4 stroke Thank you.
My first street bike was a 2-stroke. My first dirt bike was a 4-stroke. I got it all backwards. Of course they are both now iconic. 1984 RZ350 and a 1978 XR75. I still have the XR.
Carb 2stroke in my eyes are great. But if I ever buy a new bike it has to have the magic button on it. If I get a yz I will order a button kit. I still think that in general a starter isn’t needed but for people who have hurt themselves as I have I absolutely need one.
Shots fired 😂 I really enjoy the dynamic between you and Jeff. You’re more of a blue collar, every-man rider and he’s an old grumpy dude with tons of experience and deep pockets. Both very knowledgeable with valuable perspectives, keep it coming 👍
Idk man, a good running 4 stroke w/out the newer cat/emissions smells quite good to me, gimme dem unburnt hydrocarbons. Not much beats castor 927 tho.... I run it in my saw just cause I don't live that 2 stroke life, but want to enjoy the smell. Lol. And to be honest, my rfs sounds pretty good, at least to me. If it was as easy to get a street legal 2 stroke, I'd be all over it though.
trail 4 stroke bikes like tt-r xr dr are cheaper to operaite then 2 stroke bikes BUT the old school trail 2 strokes were just as cheap like kdx jr/ds pe
F'iing hilarious-couldn't agree more. Had a 350 xc and 300xc for years and had to sell one this spring, both great bikes but it was a no brainer to sell the 350!
Morgan! To help your argument on price a 2023 yz250 is almost 3k cheaper than a new 450! The Austrian brands are at the price they’re at because of the amount of money in R&D they’ve spent on the technology etc…
Love the lightness and flickability of my 2 strokes, and love the grunt and long distance riding aspects of my 4T. So now I'm really screwing with my head and ordered a 4T 300 trials bike!! 😝🤪
Man keep on! Lol love it! No lie though - just like you with having both 2 and 4 strokes, I have so much more fun on 2 strokes. Even just warming it up at the trailhead I'm already having fun and in a different mental state.
I'm one of those "conflicted souls" that just cant decide upon the number of strokes I like best. From a pure riding comparison, I must say at my advanced age I value the laziness I can do on a 4stroke yet there are places I ride that the 2stroke is the better choice so I conclude by saying I am happy I have both. So get out and ride YOUR DIRT BIKES!
Hey Mate, ive had my KX250 2006 since brand new from the dealer in 2008. I ride it every weekend the only major parts ive changed is 3rd and 4th gears in the gear box in 2017 apart from that the cylinder is in new condition with no signs of wear. Change the rings and keep that air filter clean. Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Wet farts! LMFAO!! You nailed it. Everyone needs to work on growing a thick skin. When I was growing up it sometimes was a challenge to make someone butt hert. Not anymore, wear the wrong color underwear and it gives people ptsd
Love your video comments and "opinion". I have both 300xc and 450F. Love them both. If I had to pick one though, I would pick the 300xc. When I'm riding open fast terrain I pick 450f for its stability, power, and torque. The tighter and more technical I pick a torquey 2stroke. Many other reasons for liking one or the other, but those are the biggest reasons for me. Love your videos, keep them coming!!
Morgan you are undoing years of intensive cognitive behavioral therapy, and repetitive mantras. "I live in California and I must learn to love 4 strokes" repeat
Yep... I have gone back to a 2 stroke after many years riding 500 and 350 KTMs. Took me a while to adjust my riding style, but I am sold on the 2 t. Makes me feel like a young bloke again 🤙🤣 I went for a Beta 250 for its simple Keihin carburettor. I love the KTMs but I'm not sold on the TPI bikes yet. It is only a matter of time until all manufactures will be full injected 2 strokes. PS..... TuBliss is awesome 👍... you got that bit wrong mate 🤣
I just got a 2019 YZ125 for my daughter. She’s been riding a 2018 CFR 125. She had me lay the YZ125 on the ground to see if she can pick it up, she’s 14. She picked it up with no problem and said it’s about as heavy at the CFR125, which is physically smaller. I did the same thing and she was right the smaller four stroke weighs as much as the larger two stroke.
Thought I would hear something different than everyone has already said. LOL I have one of each. Prefer the 4 stroke for cross country/harescramble racing. I prefer the 2 stroke for technical riding.
Aaaaaaaarrrrrr.....I'm still spitting nails about the Tubliss comments....lol Wanting to sell my 250 XC-W tpi for a 350 4t just for stability in the rocks. Safe space safe space 🤦
Rotella for my 2 stroke gear boxes all day long, super easy to change with no filters. I like the more frequent changes to make sure there is no metal chunks floating around. My 4t husky on the other hand takes the finest synthetic maxima with its 2 oil filters and oil screens.
I like them both, that's why I ride both but I personally Have more fun on my two strokes but feel I'm faster on my four strokes. Great vid! love all the comments! lol 😂
I love them both as well, just depends on what terrain I'm riding or how I'm feeling... I don't think one is better than the other just different and both are awesome.
I will say, when at supercross races, the smells and sounds of 4 strokes are awesome. Not saying it wouldn’t be better with two strokes (especially the smell) but that 4 stroke smell doesn’t bother me one bit either. I can appreciate it better when I don’t have to worry about working on them either 😅
The only advantage of a thumper 450 is long steep / sandy/ loose hill climb! If you weigh 150 a 300 2T it’s fine , 250 pounds geared up my 300 ain’t getting it done! Other than that 2T are the best!!!
Algorithm comment . Fun yes. More please …also, can you put a license plate on a 2stroke in your state, I cannot in Oregon (y’know, for trail connecting)
I like both i love my rm 125 for those long dual sport rides with alot of pavement. And for the real hard enduro stuff I love my Dr650 because of the estart and its tractability.
Haha, nice troll w/ the Rotella comment. Jay says lots of top teams run it, he runs it in everything, thats good enough for me! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3dNUwq151Ug.html
