Wait till you see my next video series. I will build a Honda 50 two stroke , into a 0 -70 mile an hour rocket in 4 seconds, even with my 210 pound weight. Parts should be here tomorrow Friday, and most are exotic pipes, and pistons and head and cylinder kits. I will start with the bare block, I have a few of them , and install the crank up to the Racing piston, custom reed valves and use pictures to highlight all the work I have done over the years. RH DSD
Great video, I have been tinkering for years but I am rebuilding my first snowmobile engine now I was wonder why it blew up, this helped confirm it overheated caused by exhaust valve being stuck
He meant the force of the explosion will expand the rings, top ring first, once it hits the cylinder wall I'm sure some pressure blows the bottom ring out, creating a second air seal, even if only for a jiffy. But he meant no fuel or burn/scorch lines should get below the rings, and I think you knew that and wanted to be an a s s.🤏😝
Thank you much my redmax 230 was messing up and have no idea how a piston work but thank you so much for making this video helped out a lot thanks m8 !
they should still be able to move and flex a teensy bit,.....while being kept from rotating by the ring keeper pin. (a ring that cant flex/move is "bound" and your motor is heading for disaster.)
From what I found on my Harley when I rebuilt my top end because of Top-End Noise (Tapping) was I had about 1/16 inch of carbon build up on the Pistons and Valves and were hitting or carbon tapping to Pistons to rings. I Checked my exhaust and found a crack on my aftermarket headers. I rebuilt the Top-End and changed my exhaust. My engine must have been running rich because of the exhaust. I found so much carbon build up it bent a push rod slightly and ruined a tappet or hydraulic lifter. Your Piston don't have much carbon build up, however, you definitely had ring problems. Good Video. Thanks.
Nick S Also, make sure you don't have excess air intake from your breather before the air filter by the cylinder head. This will through you tuning off. I tried everything to clean my pistons and valves, the best thing I used to clean them was warm water and dish soap along with a couple different types of brushes. I must say it was a lot of work.
Nick S One other thing... The rear cylinder / Piston gets more heat than the front because it's air cooled and the front gets more air to cool. The rear was worse than the front. I'm thinking of putting fans on my bike. the hottest point of the engine is right near the spark plugs. Just my 2 cents from a Back Yard Mechanic.
Do more videos... you're very good at explaining....AND pointing out the problem, not just talking and Not,..showing what you mean. very good video.you speak in a way that paints a very good mental visual 👍👍👍
THe arrow points to the exhaust port because the piston is supposed to be stronger on that side due to the tremendous heat the exhaust port produces compared to the back side of the cylinder.
No, thank you. I got my start in all this from Hawaii. Have had a great time ever since.. RH DSD I have many more videos on my Recently Updated Channel Playlists, check em out! Thank you. DSD
@ermestosobalatronca No, I am just an old guy that picked up a video camera one day, and shot a movie while telling a story. I think I am good at it, and if it helps you, or others , then great. RH DSD
Here is more vids on Pistons= My Playlists for this Subject contain more videos you might be interested in seeing. I just recently Updated my Entire Channel. Thanks for watching .
Fuel and air should never explode that only occurs during detonation (pinging) your air fuel mixture should burn quickly but evenly which expands the air in the cylinder pushing the piston down dude.
I have seen the L rings, but not in these mass produced Chinese pistons. My 2 stroke books have an entire 3 chapters on how, what, why, and when a piston ring works at all speed levels. It really helped me understand the less talked about piston ring engineerings. R
Anyone know if its recommended to replace the piston rings if the cylinder is ever removed? Every since I removed mine on my 66cc for inspection, it just doesn't seem to run the same.
i had something way worse my neighbor gave me a weed eater and i took the thing apart thinking it had seized only to find i could still move the piston a little but not all the way turns out the rings had failed went up got jammed inside the engine and chipped the piston edge down to the second ring. both rings were completely gone the first was 1/3 of the way around the piston but chipped and broken
can you still use the pistion with the little brown spot inside the pistion cause with my 4 stroke 250cc the rest of the piston looks fine but i hvae a big brown spot in mine
Brown spot means you got the Piston Crown very hot. Will it work again? A brown spot wont hurt it or help it either, you have to decide to be honest. In My PLAYLISTS I have many many more videos on this Subject, all Free!! Check them out! Thank you. RH
That could happen, I guess. But not for very long. The explosion is the combustion chamber is intense. The Shock and blast wave follow the piston sides, right to the first, then second piston ring, where the pressure wave gets behind the rings and pushes them tight to the cylinder . That is to the best of my Knowledge, thanks, R.
thank you for sharing & what is the difference between two stroke & four stroke engine piston & what will happen if i try to use a four stroke piston for a two stroke engine? just curious and it is very important to me. thank you in advance!
Hi there i have a 1998 yz 125 and i put new barrel on and i keep seizing my pistons and also got barrel done again and happend again while running it in and in the process this time it siezed the bottom end
I have a problem on my Aprilia sr 50cc it have a low power and that power be lower in up side roads when i drive up it get hot and start dying but when i turn on lights in wake up and push it self ad then if i continue with lights and get about 40km/h it start dismissing what could be the problem? I took off my piston head and i found that the sparkplug cant go down enough and that there is some small scratches inside the cylinder but i dont feel thm using finger i have some pics for what i found
The spark plug Must stick out of the cylinder head at the dome of the combustion chamber. If you went from a Short plug head to a different long plug head, and still using the old short plug, it wont work. I had this problem too. took me a long time to figure out, Pull the head off and make sure the plug tip- full extends into the head combustion chamber. it will fix everything. If this is the same problem I had. good luck, RH DSD
@@DIOSpeedDemon do you have a way to i can send pics ? i got all the cylinder as a used one and i found out that the spark plug place have been fixed so its not like my old liquid cooled one its alittle bit taller but not that much as long sparkplugs
Dude, you need to make a video of the damage, post it on your youtube account and let me look at it. I can tell reall quick what it was. You need a new crankshaft, piston, cylinder and head to rebuild. clean the case well also. R
No, I am sorry, I am a Pack-Rat by nature. Since my DIOS motor stopped production in 2001, I collect what little parts are available and keep them. You have to remember in Europe, you guys have dozens of choices of Two-Strokes. Here in the US, there are virtually non-existant due to pollution laws. I believe the earlier Yamaha Zuma (BWIZZ) in Canada and HOnda elite are the only two stroke racing bikes available to me. Funny how I can buy 100 Battle rifles with Ammo, a Tank, a battleship, but I cant legally buy a two stroke racing motorcycle. I would love to Have an Aprillia RS 250, but even used in the US is about $12,000 dollars. Or the 1984 Yamaha RZ500 Two stroke would be a great bike but they were never sold here and only in Canada. One bike like that is $15,000 Used, if you can find on on ebay. My Parts supplier is VTCYCLES.com and is listed in the Description box of Every one of my videos. Please contact them and ask about parts you need. I have dealt with VT for over 20 years now. Thanks RH DSD KING DIO
clearly a non-synthetic oil,..that leaves ash/soot. how does anybody still not use full synthetic? ring binding and port blockage become a thing of the past. I dont get how cheap people are. (saved four dollars,...whoopee.---- but NOW,..the engine requires a whole new top end,.. which costs a lot more than four bucks!!!) LOOOL good luck with your crap non synthetic oil,..bro.
2cycle engines have troubles cause people use mineral or semi synthetic oil which is grity and doesnt protect much (i motul 800 at 60:1 and the plug Colour is caramal colour plug when i pulled the cylinder head off after 1000km the piston is shiny clean and everything looked all wet which is the oil (Note mineral oil at 16:1 when i pulled the cylinder head off previously everything was dry and grity
Your running 60:1 ? I only run 50:1 . I learn something new every day, thank you. In my Playlists , I have very Recently Catalogued all my videos on this Subject- Check them out !! thank you.... All Free!!!
The Flash point is main part that 2stroke owners should know motul 800 has a Flash point of 250celcius and a castrol tts racing 2t is only 77celcius Flash point which is a good of siezing your motor
I did not know that, thanks for the advice! In my Playlists , I have very Recently Catalogued all my videos on this Subject- Check them out !! thank you.... All Free!!!
My 05 Yamaha DT125re had been lieing in the garage for a couple of years I charged up my battery the bike started 2 push of the electric start just let it run for 5-10 mins just gave the bike a wee blip of throttle and it came out wasn't a bang more of a pop then wouldn't start bike has never had any problems till now only done 5k miles always run with fully synthetic oil ,coolant is always checked ? Could that be my piston or rings ?
This is a super common problem. YOur idle jet lets the bike start and idle. Your other jet, the main jet supplies gas for everything else. Your idle jet is clear, your main jet is clogged with gunky dried syrupy two year old dried gas. Take the carb apart, clean the main jet with gasoline and a toothbrush and it should work good at new. This is the most common bike problem of them sitting and this happens millions of times a year. most commonly asked about problem. RH DSD
DIOSpeedDemon . Great video 👍 what if Yamaha gp1200r was siting 4 years. What should I do? I remove exhaust and going to rebuild carb and instal d plate. ( new spark plugs gas and oil). Also May I ask you is it better do premix or leave oil pump? Thanks
