Based off of his current performances I think he definitely has the potential to break the world records in the 1500m, Mile, 3000m, and 5000m over the next couple years as long as he stays healthy. As for the longer races, who knows!

aerobic or anerobic nobody is running faster than him. obviously he's better at longer distances but he is still stronger than everybody in the 1500 as of now. I don't think you can call the person w the fastest 1500 in recent years "not as strong". not reading the records and what he has done this season proves you have no idea what you're talking about. a fast 1500 runner is a fast 1500 runner regardless of how the race is run.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I do actually think he can get every WR from 1500m - Marathon (not sure about the 3k steeple since, to my knowledge, he has no experience or training with that). I wouldn’t go as so far to say he WILL with distances like the marathon as now Cheptegai and I imagine Jacob Kiplimo will soon enter the marathon distance so who knows how they might affect the current marathon WR (which already might get taken down this weekend in Berlin by Kipchoge) and not to mention this new freak, Kelvin Kiptum. I mean, we all though Bekele was going to do what Kipchoge went on to do in the marathon and continue his dominance like he did on the track but life has a funny way of throwing curve balls. People say Jakob is cocky and I don’t know where they get that. He’s extremely confident but his confidence is not born of delusional narcissism. His confidence is grounded in actual results in what he legitimately knows he can do based on what he’s done in training, how he’s continued to perform on race day, knowledge of the sport as well as his competitors. To be honest, I find his frank honesty and transparency refreshing. He’s straightforward and he’s got my respect as well as everybody who watches him because you can’t help but respect what he does. Kudos to him. Keep taking heads, names, and records 👊🏼✊🏼

As listed in the video he has an 8:26 steeple PR as a 17 year old and showed promise in the event as a young junior, you can look up the races he competed in back then. For someone as disciplined and technically efficient as him, I don't think technique will be a problem with enough focus and practice, and he absolutely has the flat 3000m ability to beat the WR. As great as Girma is, he was able to brute force his way to 7:52 off of mostly fitness (his form isn't as efficient as El Bakkali's), and Jakob is probably a few seconds faster over 3000.

Kind of irrelevant, but I feel like the Norwegians are gonna some up with more world class athletes in the future. I've noticed how when a nation produces even just one special athlete. It makes the natives believe that they can also perform at that level. I'll use South Africa for example. Before 2014, we had never had a sub 10 second man. That changed at the National Championships in April when Simon Magakwe ran 9.98 to be the first to break 10 seconds. Since then we've had 6 more break 10 in Akani Simbine(9.84), Phatutshedzo Maswanganyi(9.91), Wayde Van Niekerk(9.94), Tlotliso Gift Leotlela(9.94), Thando Roto(9.95) and Henricho Bruintjies(9.97). Since 2017 when Warholm won his gold in London it motivated others from his country like Ingebrigsten and look what he's becoming. There's also another Norwegian who runs the 400m flat and he broke Warholm NR by running 44.39 in Budapest semi final. I'm not saying we WILL definitely see another beast from Norway, but I won't be surprised if we do.

His race endurance has not peaked. If he is able to improve his endurance through his mid 20s to late 20s, it seems likely that several new WR performances will come. This, of course, depends on whether he can avoid serious injury. Running at his pace is obviously stressing his body very close to a hard limit. Injuries can change everything. For his sake, and ours in his growing fan base, let's all hope he stays healthy. I predict he will set a new WR in the 1500 and 5K in Paris.

I predict he will set the world record at the mile at Bislett Games next year. Hear me out: This year's attempt, at the end of a long season, I believed gave him confidence that he is very close to getting this record. At the same time, it would be ideal to set a world record at his homestage - he has himself talked about how excited he gets every time he competes at Bislett games. There's also the fact that Bislett games this year showed him that it's possible to run very fast at this track given that he set what was a 1500m PB at the time at this event. And the dream mile at Bislett games has always held a lot of prestige, almost in the same league as the Bowerman mile.

I think that once/if he conquers the 1500m, both the WR and gold medals in both the Olympics and World Championships, which he will likely do before the age of 25, he swaps the 1500m for the 10k and gradually moves up in distance as he gets older. He is 18, can run 1:43 for 800, runs 3:30 for 1.500, 3:48 Mile, and 4:48 2000, aswell a 13:20 ( in a slow race) over 5.000 Jakob’s chances to run WR in longer races (where the pace is obviously slower) he can just train to break longer races records If you look at his lactate measurements are indicating s 58 minuete flat half marathon. By no means to undermine Jakob's incredible talent, but Lets not overlook the advantages that shoe technology play into all of this. Nike's alphafly and shoes like that are augementing performances by a few extra percent... thats a huge helper.

You are right. The pacing lights as well.@@jgalt1981The mentally tough part - having to run from the front - is just as hard today as it was back then. I wonder what his times and the times of his competitors would be with the older shoes though.

He will break the records because he's doing something different from the rest that clearly seems to be working. His dad has extremely unique training methods. The dude carries like a lactate metre with him at all times and regularly pricks himself to measure his blood lactate at different points. He's the only one doing this kind of lactate-guided training. Jakob is also only the only top runner in any event from the 1500 up to not be almost underweight. All runners at the top for all these events hover at around 18.6 to 18.8 BMI and Jakob just comes in with a 21.4 BMI, which is higher than the 400m record holder, Wayde van Niekerk, and about the same as the fastest 100 and 200m runner right now, Noah Lyles. Man's built like a sprinter, but is dominating the distance runners. Up to 10k, he might break the record, but I don't know about the marathon. I mean the 2nd fastest marathoner, Kelvin Kiptum, literally has a BMI of 16.12, which is like anorexic.

As it says in Timothy Noakes's legendary book, 'If the best milers came off the track, they'd clean up on the roads'. I have total belief that Jacob can get the 3K, 5K and 10K records - but doubt he can get the 1500m record.

He is still young. Assuming he remains injury free and healthy, he can probably break a few more records. I reckon 5000 is definitely within sight. I reckon 1500 and mile look like tough asks, but he is close. We will see what happens with 10k etc. Not many can take that kind of jump. Good that he has those goals though.

If he stays healthy , I think he will hold every wr from the 1500m to the half -marathon . His best 1500m time will be 3:25.5 . And his half Marathon time will be 57:09 ..... I don't know about the Marathon . Some of the greatest half marathon runners couldn't run a great marathon . We shall see

I think it's a realistic goal for him to desire to break the 1,500 WR all the way to the 5,000 WR. I think he can accomplish that in as little as 2 years. Beyond that, it's going to take some additional training. So, who knows!

As for the longer distances, Jacob won 4 consecutive European cross country championships in the under 20 age group. I believe these are 8 km, and the terrain probably makes closer to a 20k track effort.

He will break the 1500m & 3000m while he is still so young and fresh and given he will achieve that as an Aerobically Dominant runner I have no doubt he'll be in wr 5000m ability already given that his 3200m was Phenomenal & crushed Daniels sub 8min. Hes ready anytime to break the wr 5000m right now in my opinion. The 10,000k & h.m will come off similar training i feel given hes so powerful already. W.r will be slightly faster than his Critical Velocity anyway. Given Kipchoge wouldnt have run a 7:53 2mile I think given Jacobs rentless pursuit of domination...he will 1 day run 1:58 Marathon. He had the time & focus to dedicate to 200-240km wks down the track and hell have more 2mile leg speed than any other Marathoner. Cheers

It is good to have ambitious goals. Jakob certainly has them. But most of this talk about him eventually holding “every WR from 1500 through marathon” is almost pure hype. For one thing, Jakob’s body type is against him. There have been powerful 1500 WR (Snell) and tall 1500 WR (Ryun) but there has never been a 1.84 m, 74 kg marathon WR. The extra weight may provide more power, but propelling it for 42195 meters will be burdensome and performance limiting.
