There are two ways to duplicate objects in Blender. Both are useful. Normal duplication and "linked" duplication for objects that share data.

I don't understand how I'm having issues. my objects are 2 different shades of orange and yellow and wont link to each other no matter if I'm in edit or object mode when I use shift or alt D

Do I have to duplicate then duplicate then duplicate. Or can I make a duplicate and choose how many I create? Say I need 3 more legs for my table. Can I get three at once. Or do I have to duplicate the same leg three times. Thanks so much your videos are EXCELLENT!!

It's just like cut and paste (which also works - it just doesn't allow you to move the new object without extra key presses). So you can duplicate one leg, then select the both legs and duplicate again to get four. I'm not aware of a short cut or tool that lets you select how many copies to make. If you truly need a LOT of copies you can look into the Array Modifier - I use this to create things like star fields where I might want 1000+ objects.

how does the link duplicate work on mac? I notice I could do both Opt+D and Shf+D for duplication

Both duplicate. Only one should be "linked." I believe the option + D is the linked duplication.

What if i have a hand and i wanna make a glove for it. Can i duplicate it ? Will it work?

That really depends what you are doing with it. If it's a static model I would just make a glove and forget about the hand (no one will see it). If you are animating the model and taking the glove on and off that's a different can of worms. At the end of the day try it. See if it works for what you are doing.

Usually when the hot keys don’t work it’s because of another program running. Hard to know.

Ive put them in separate collections and changed thier names but stilll when i edit one of them they all get edited.

Sounds like you are working with textures and materials? You may need to duplicate your material?
