Had to rewatch the part about installing the cover - didn't have it angled enough to get the top part to click. Thank you, Mr. youtubes.

Thank you for the detailed information. I saw bunch of other videos but nobody explained with the depth you had explained. I was able to replace mine with your steps .I did not open glove box. I used the first method. One warning to the first time users like me. Open the cover gently. I broke one of left side pin. God bless you.

My Pathfinder annoys me on a daily basis. The cabin filter is such a simple thing, but really the last straw for me. Thanks for video though. It was helpful.

Hey your welcome. what dont you like about the pathfinder?
@pato7694

Mine is a 2014 with 60k miles. Lots of little things have great be wrong. Knob and lever covers have come off the stereo and seats throughout the car. Both visors in the front have needed replaced. The motor in the drivers side door needs replaced. The plastic covers on the seat mounts in the front seats needed replaced. The seals everywhere on the outside of the car have completely fallen apart, and now the front wheels are making a rattling sound when I turn. I got the car in 2015 and over the last year and a half it’s always something.

Wow sounds like alot of stuff. and doesnt have many miles on it. Almost sounds like that pathfinder was made on a friday. Possibly sounds like a wheels bearing in your front wheels. but there's a lot of things up there that can be the issue. Well I hope after the next round of fixing that's it for awhile. I hope mine lasts a long time as I plan on keeping for 10 more years but I guess time will tell. mine has only 40 something thousand kms on it.

Needlenose pliers helped me remove the filter from JX35. Putting the new one in was easy. Thanks! No glove box removal required, but I did have to contort my body several ways and slightly strained my neck. :)
@TDLDIY
@TDLDIY Год назад
I am glad you were able to change it out. Thats a good idea with the needlenose pilers. Hopefully your neck doesnt hurt for long. Would you remove the glove box next time? or do you think its easier the way you did it? Just asking since i put 2 ideas out there. Thanks

That after market filer actually looks better than the factory one. The factory one might have more slats, but that doesn't make it a better filter. The factory one is paper. The one you changed it with actually looks like a heavier cloth material that would probably filter the air and contaminants better. Time will tell I guess.
@TDLDIY

Yes your correct it seems better plus I believe it had a carbon filtration in it as well. so far it works well.

When you did the 2nd method through the glove box, you didn’t remove the lower side panel of the centre console. Since you’re accessing the same cover, it would seem you wouldn’t actually need to remove that side panel when doing this the first way…. Right? (I just always worry about breaking those stupid clips)

Thanks, takes me 2min to get the old 1 out and new 1 in, i didnt even take the panel next to it off. 😅 its tight in there but i do this set up over the glovebox any days.

Thanks for the comment and telling about your experience. I will have to give that a try next time. Glovebox is more stuff to take off but lots of room to get it changed out. i figure i would let people know of different ways and they can pick which is best for them.

Thanks for this video - I removed the glove box and it made the filter door much more accessible. While removing the old filter, a white felt strip 1/4" x 9 1/4" (the filter height) came out with it. It has a line of tiny silicon (?) beads along it. Presumably a seal of some sort. Since I was installing a Bosch HEPA filter capable of filtering out 99.7% of Cornoavirus, I need to know that my cabin filter system is hermetically sealed. Do you know what this thin strip is?
@TDLDIY
@TDLDIY 3 года назад
Thanks for your comment, I am not sure what that strip would be but your guess would be as good as mine. I guess it would make sense for it to have been a seal. Let me know how the hepa filter works out for you, I might try it as well. Thanks for watching
@stevelaskey6895

The felt strip may have been originally attached to the filter. Mine had one at each end.

Is it normal for there to be a small air leak coming out of the cabin air filter door after installation? I think I might have mounted it wrong it was so difficult to put the door back on.
@TDLDIY

The door can be a bit tricky to get back on correctly.

Now I know why Nissan service technicians are so highly paid - removing and installing the cabin filter with the glove box removed did have its moments of "wish I hadn't started this!" Several extra tools I found useful were a small hand mirror and a flashlight so you can better see the worksite, especially the upper area of the filter door. Removing the old filter was a struggle but I used some old steel dental tooth cleaning hook tools - order on Amazon ($10) or get from a dental hygienist, they replace them frequently and throw the old ones away. Hooking into the bottom of the filter gave full control to lift the lower edge up and out; needle-nose pliers then finished the job. Inserting the new filter was easy. I laid it flat on a desk and then pressed the center top and bottom edges together making sure the pleats were aligned correctly. I wrapped a 2"paper strip around the compressed center section of the filter and secured it with masking tape, leaving the two ends fanned out. Making sure I had the air flow arrows pointing towards the cabin, it was easy to compress the first edge of the filter into two lobes and then push the edge into the door. The rest was easy. I simply pushing the filter in, removing the paper sleeve and tape as it went in until the last edge was flush with the door opening. I'm sure experienced mechanics don't need to "baby" the project in these ways but for me, these tips made the project much easier.

Thanks for your comment. I am glad my video helped you out. Yes I agree that removing the glove box is the easiest way to access the filter. more involved yes, alot more room to see and move around. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for this - btw, I am sure you totally cut out the part on the first process where you dropped multiple F bombs directed at the Nissan engineers, had sweat dripping in your eyes (even in cold Canada), yelled - WHO THE HELL DESIGNED THIS? SCREAMED again.... ... punched the glove box yelling, "why is this thing in the way????!!", smashed your knuckles and had your body wickedly contorted to even try and see where to put the filter.... and you STILL can't see it, yell at yourself "I REALLY have to smash the filter to get it in???", have your wife say "are you ok???" try to put the clip back in with no success.... that's so Canadian nice of you. This is my second changing and needed another idea. My Toyota took 2 minutes. I'd rather SELL my Pathfinder or have someone find it abandoned and burning along the roadside before I do the first way ever again.

Lol the design isnt the greatest. But if you want to know something worst check out my mazda 3 video how to replace the blower motor... that one i cursed a few times for sure. Pretty much as you described! Thanks for watching. Thanks for the great comment had me laughting.

Hate Nissan for making life difficult. Very difficult to reach-in, can't see anything. Old filter is out and not able to get the new filter in. Back hurts, knee hurts, neck hurts, hand hurts, fingers hurt, dirty clothes, dirty face, dirty hair. It's so easy on Toyota and Subaru to change cabin air filter. Did it in 2 minutes in both. SMH

Can be tricky and its alot easier removing the glove box but more time to get to it. Well at least they put the blower motor in the right place. My wife's mazda 3 blower motor is behind the the stereo.
@esojanacig9230
@esojanacig9230 3 года назад
That's a bad design from the Nissan manufacturer. I got the 2011 Rogue and not happy changing the filter. With my Toyota and Mazda are easy as 1 2 3.
@TDLDIY
@TDLDIY 3 года назад
I could've been better for sure. Since it something you change roughly one a year possible more depends on conditions. But not as bad as mazdas blower motors that is the worst place to put them under the stereo. Thanks for watching.

Hate Nissan now. Having Pathfinder 2018, impossible to change cabin filter. My Sorento 2013 was very easy. Didn't have to tuck it in. Kia is a cheap brand but enough room for parts. I will take my Pathfinder to dealer to get cabin filter changed. Doing myself may not be worthy after watching video
@TDLDIY
@TDLDIY Год назад
I agree they could've put it in a better more accessible spot. That you for watching my video at least you know how much work is involved to make an educated decision weather to do it yourself or get a dealer or shop to handle this for you.

You must not have watched the video very long because at 7:35 I clearly go into the second method which show how to removed the glovebox and replace the cabin filter that way. The first method was not having to remove the glovebox. I hope this clear up any doubt you might have had.
