You are so smart to know how to fix and use one of those. I love the sound. It reminds me of the old Greenbelt theater.

Hi Elaine - Ahh... yeh..just hear that projector sound and you know it's time to pull out the home movies! It's funny how a sound brings you back to another time. Kinda like hearing the scratches while playing a 45 rpm record. Never thought I'd like those sounds, but those noises turn out to be part of the sound of the record, at least from our memory. Nothing like the sprocket sound of a real projector! Those styles in the movie go back no later than the early 50's I think.

Eddie, yeah... those of us with miles on us hear a projector sound that brings back a special day when those films were received from the processor. We'd wait for dinner, then pull out the screen and projector in the kitchen and watch it. Quite often we'd go thru many of the older films right after the new one. We'd make a night out of it. In my family, maybe only one or two new 8mm films were shot a year. Lot a changes today, huh? See ya -- Atco

Hi Fino - It's funny, today taking pictures or videos at anytime from our phones is never thought of twice. But in the past, it was a special thing to do. I can remember how exciting it was to open the package of the pics and video that was just processed and mailed to us. Putting out the 8mm projector and screen in the kitchen was a special day for that 3 min film and/or 24 pics shown. Yep, cool memories! See ya -- Atco

Hi David - We had a few pre-made films to watch too. Always liked the Sci-Fi and Monster movies. They'd have to cut it down to as much as a 3 min film, although more likely we had 7 min films. Our own home movies were all 3 min movies. See ya -- Atco

Hi Dude44 - After the first one opened up with all the belts bad, I was very surprised that the second one looking good. Interesting design of the GAF so different then others. See ya -- Atco

Hi MM - Sure like the way to do movies today using our cell phones! Yep, a much better way to go. But, it was always a special day to watch one of your own 3 min 8mm films that just came in from the processor. Good memories for those who remember those years! See ya -- Atco

Great Video...men's suits were cool back then! 👍✌️

Hi Jose - It does seem to be a little different now as it has been for the last decade or two where everyone was dressed up in very casual clothes. Now many firms are coming back with suits. I kinda like it. See ya -- Atco

Atco, Again I'm sorry to be late, my friend. Great finds on those projectors. One of these days I plan to break down and get one for myself...then start picking up a few old 8mm home movies off of eBay to watch. It'll be a mystery as to whose in them, but who cares? It's the fun that counts. Old umajunkcollector does that. I've always thought it pretty cool of him. Regards, John

Hi John - Yes, just a little time capsule of another time. Still got some of our own films. I've asked at yard sales if anyone has old movie films to sell. I offer them to give them to me, and I'll turn the movie to a DVD and send it to them. Unfortunately, not one offer yet.. See ya -- Atco

Hi Atco. As the owner of four 8mm projectors I love these old machines. Three of mine are Kodak and the other is a Bell and Howell. The three Kodak models are all from the '50s and the Bell and Howell is from the early 1960s. Interestingly the Kodak projectors all have woven and somewhat stretchy metal belts that are still in excellent condition. I wonder, though, if such belts or equivalent rubber ones are even available for the Kodak models. I'll check later. I do know bulbs for them are very, very hard to find and considering the service life according to Kodak is, to my recollection, only about seven hours an otherwise perfectly working machine may just become a conversation piece should it burn out. I'm unsure about the belts in the B&H or it's bulb. Anyway, I enjoy even the sound the projectors make, the heat they throw, and the fuzzy time-dimmed movies they cast on a screen or wall. Old time technology magic at its best.

Hi RPM - Other than my new GAF, I have two Keystone projectors, one 8mm and one 16mm. I had to replace a belt for the 16mm. I was able to use a rubber belt off the hardware store for about $2. Lucky that both of mine have lamps that still work. Many of those old projectors can not get new lamps. Some people have converted to a LED lamp. Hope I won't have to go thru that. Yeah... they are cool and quite nice to have them in my game room. I have some of our own family films to play, and would love to find some more.. See ya -- Atco

@@atco21117 Interestingly, I found in a thrift store 3 unopened 8mm films of Expo '67, the 1967 World's Fair held in Montreal. These were absolutely pristine and surprisingly vivid in both colour and sharpness. So yes keep on the lookout as you never know what you will find at times least expected.

there is a chemical called rubber restore for those rubber rollers and idlers.
@atco21117
@atco21117 5 лет назад
Hi Benjamin - I used to use a special bottle of chemicals that would restore old rubber rollers. Must have been 15 years now that they no longer sell it. I'll look for yours. I do use a belt restorer that helps on some of my items. See ya -- Atco

Easily worth a few bucks, dicker down to 2 $ lol 😜 GAF were cheapos, I like Kodak projectors, better quality, simple, worth fixing. I see many B&H, but most usually don't work right. Bulbs are usually under 10$, but some old rare projector lamps can be over 30$. Luvz doze old home movies! IT'S MOVIE NIGHT!

PS: Howz 'bout a movie night vid, have family and frenz over, have the video camera aimed on screen, and record all the conversation. I have some spools from my aunt, I plan to make a vid of them with my brother, sure to be some teasers about my cousin. lol

Hi Don - What I remember of those projectors was that we didn't really shot too many in those days. For my family, 2 films each year at best and that was with just 3 min movies! So when a new video came out from the processor, it was a special night to pull out the screen and projector and watch the new film and of course you couldn't pass on pulling out quite a few of the older ones right after! See ya -- Atco

It's a great idea. Do it, don't wait. We had planned to do that too but never got to it and some of the family now has passed. Missed that chance to do it. Go for it Don! -- Atco
