Back when they used the foil trays, sometimes food from one compartment was frozen in with another compartment. Usually it was the peas & carrots or corn frozen in with the apple sauce or with the dessert. It was a surprise when you pulled off the foil top because those compartments usually remained covered during the whole cooking process.

For me, there just is nothing better than Stouffer's turkey dinner with the stuffing and mashed potatoes. If you add in their macaroni n' cheese you really have a nice dinner.

This is a great video down memory lane and great to watch while eating.... I do think it's funny though that he complimented Stouffers a ton but didn't know how to pronounce it correctly 😅. Of course he also said "Coolinary" instead of "culinary" too. I had to laugh when he called it "Stow fairs" instead of saying it "Stow furs". It's a legendary company even today. so maybe I'm just weird I found it funny....

I suspect they don't have an actual person reading the script, but that's just my suspicion. Considering a few times they say company names different ways. It kind of ruins it for me, unfortunately.

As a child in the 1970's, I recall TV dinners (and frozen pizzas) being rather bland back then; glad I've lived long enough to see companies improve so I can enjoy better versions of the things I grew up with. (Overall, Stouffer's is my favorite; never had a bad Stouffer's dinner.)

My entire late teens and early 20's were a constant parade of Weight Watcher's and Lean Cuisine... I loved the asian ones with the sweet and sour veggies and chicken on rice... it was a constant fight with my weight and eventually my Type 1 diabetes. (auto-immune, insulin dependent) Thank heavens they tasted ok - even if the diabetes clinic dieticians kept harping on about the increased sugars and salts in them (the flavor had to come from SOMEWHERE!). (rolls eyes) Working full time in retail, I didn't have the time or energy to cook from scratch every time, and these mostly worked because of the smaller portion size.

Think I heard at least 4 different pronunciations of Stouffers none how I learned to say it. Marie Callenders use to be really good, use to be. So was Banquet years ago when they still used aluminum trays. The local IGA store had frozen trays for dinner in the late 1970 that were really good. Real mashed tators tasty meats and fresh vege, probably the best frozen dinners I ever tasted.

Several of these are still around today. Hungry Man, Banquet, Stouffer's, Lean Cuisine, Marie Callender's, Healthy Choice, Kid Cuisine, Boston Market, Michelina's, Smart Ones, we sell all these at the store at which I work. I'm more for Banquet and Stouffer's, but do enjoy the boneless fried chicken Hungry Man meals. And of course, who can forget Tyson frozen chicken and Ore-Ida potato things? I love me some tater tots.

With the last few Hungry Man Salsbury Steak dinners I have gotten, the steak had a funky texture that was nothing like meat and my beloved Marie Calander's chicken pot pies were more crust and gravey than chicken. Disappointing.

I'm a gen xer but I don't remember having tv dinners often. The serving sizes were very small. More of a snack. Stouffer's Lasagna and Grandmas rice dinner are my current gotos. Only family sized dinners satisfy my appetite.
@adamwarlock3530
@adamwarlock3530 3 месяца назад
I'm a boomer. I always looked at them as snacks too. My mom would only buy them when us kids asked her to. They were cheap, at least. I would occasionally eat one for lunch when my mom wasn't home. It would barely hold me to dinner. They'd probably be filling for a 7 or 8 year old, though. My mom would always cook.

My mother would heat up frozen TV dinners for me, my brother, and herself when my father was out of town Mon-Thurs back in the 1950's; she never offered one to him, but we loved 'em. Today, my wife wants a Hungry Man meatloaf dinner (not a Salisbury steak) when I'm not going to be home, but a Marie Callender's meatloaf dinner is a good substitute, just not a satisfying. And I'm still waiting for a frozen dinner that features something other than shrimp (never enough) or processed fish patties.
