i still make a lot of the items on this list. i'm so glad i paid attention in Home Ec. too bad kids these days can hardly open a cheese wrapper, and think a 'toasted cheese sandwich' is a slice of cheese on plain toast, for starters.

I still make a lot of these, potato dumplings, mash with sour cream, tomato aspic, lamb, Welsh rarebit, stuffed cabbage rolls, apricot chicken…especially with the cost of food these days. Inexpensive, healthy and really tasty

My Christmas ham is cooked with pineapple rings, maraschino cherries and a glaze of brown sugar and mustard. Doing it the way my mom did it. She's from Kentucky.

As a native New Englander I'm sure that chowders are still on the menu for many people. Having lived around different areas of the country, I can say what you eat all depends on where you are and sometimes when. I do miss rhubarb pie though; it's been hard to find any rhubarb at all for a long time.

I still add sour cream to my mashed potatoes, and I add shredded cheese. I have had Gnocchi but it’s smaller than potato dumplings. We still put pineapple on our Easter ham but dropped the cherries after the 2000’s.

I can't believe I loved long enough for the 90s to be a decade to feel nostalgic about! It is 2024 however, and there are adults who weren't born in the 20th century!

I still make many of these, IKEA still makes Sweedish meatballs, and the Italian place around the corner still serves Veal Piccata.

Here in Oklahoma back in the 70's mashed and boiled potatoes with sour cream was really good the other foods weren't as popular with the exception of salmon patties and Swedish meatballs but I remember most of the others thanks for the delicious memories. 🇺🇲🍅🥕🧅😋🌽🥬🫑🇺🇲

I grew up in Oklahoma and remember eating boiled potatoes with Ranch dressing. I was a kid in the 70s. I didn't really like the potatoes and dressing or sour cream but my Mom made us eat what was on our plate whether we liked it or not.

In the UK, every Chinese takeaway has a "European" section on the menu containing non-Chinese food and weirdly this always includes Chicken Maryland....how close it is to the original I don't know but it's basically fried chicken and always served with a pineapple ring or pineapple fritter.

@@arlenehynes4607 i'm a Brazilian too We make this basically the same way as yours, but here we often use canned tuna or canned sardines, isn't usual make this kind of recipe with fresh fish here tho In some places we made "Bolinho de bacalhau " the same idea of the Codfish cakes but with a "jerky" fish, but this fish is expensive as hell, so this variation isn't that common

I have an old recipe book of pre independence Indian and Pakistani recipes which contains a recipe for "Country Capitan" the notes say this is a corruption of "Country Capon". The description given is "a spicy version of fried chicken".

You made tomato aspic at home from scratch. The store bought items were tomato juice, Knox unflavored gelatin, among other ingredients. This was eaten on Christmas Eve, during pre-Vatican II times, when Christmas Eve was a day of fast & abstinence

Not kidding, either! Food of the gods... I still can't beat my mum's. Died at 93, bless her. Leftover roast lamb, minced, then whatever took her fancy. Mashed spud on top. Knobs of butter, and baked. Greetings from the Little DESERT region, in Victoria. 😊

I cook all the time and am interested in cooking the cheapest meal with protein, veg and fiber.....All the important nutrients......and the Indians can do it with Dahl and rice.......Dahl is like a chickpea ( which has a lot of protein)......U need to have a lot of $1 spices.......a tomato ( or a can) and one onion ...(.all vegetables).......plus rice ( fiber) ......It is very tasty and my son who eats nothing else will eat this.......India must feed all children who attend school lunch and with this they can get in to about 20 cents a serve.
