thanks =] hey question for anyone that can answer... Some custom commands like E are overriding other functions. Curious if anyone has found anything to be detrimental as an override?
One useful thing I never realised til recently is you can use the middle scroll wheel mouse button to click and drag around the project. That kinda combines scrolling left and right and up and down into one mouse button.
@@MarcOlivermusic It great isn't it!? It gets better when you actually remember that it works like that! Rather than doing the usual methods that are imprinted in the muscle memory after years!
Please please please make the part 2. This video has been invaluable already for my workflow and taught me things I did not know were even functions in cubase at all. Also Dom Your music is amazing and would love to have a course made by you that I would gladly pay for showing you working/mixing/recording Crime reborn, Beautiful asymmetry and Approaching Sirius. Maybe if you can provide the stems so they can be worked on along with you or at least some music tabs and scores for the work. I would love to get a true paint by numbers kinda thing from you showing the methods and workflow things. You have an amazing ear for the bold and dramatic and would love to be a student of yours but could not find a patreon or dedicated teachable or anything. So please throw this into the ideas bucket and think about it. Keep making that amazing music and videos and thank you
Dom, as a new user of CB I'm finding your channel a life saver. I'm almost 50 and have been using PT for 25 years. I thought the transition would have been more painful than it has in no small part to your great content. Thanks again!
Hi Dom, great information, I love your videos! Just started with Cubase again, after I gave up music 15 years ago. So many things have changed since Cubase 5, OMG. Anyway, I have a tip for you what can come in handy... Instead of Midi Bounce as a single key command, particular for midi only. You can use a macro and combine commands "Midi - Bounce Midi" & "Audio - Bounce Selection" via one key command. Cheers!
Dom, there should be a customize Cubase Dom Edition with your key commands and all in it ready to use, my relation with cubase changed since I know you
I use: "*" - for start Recording "/" - monitor track (on/off) L - jump to start of an event Ctrl + Alt + D - DeEss (from your video) "pause" - A/B referencing 1,2,3,5 - select/cut/delete "+" and "-" - scroll left/right in the track с - activate click
This was a fantastic video. Hat off. These 3 changed my life: BOOOOOM! Show Used Controllers. 💗 BOOOOOM! Duplicate Track Without Data 💗 BOOOOOM! Bounce Midi 💗
We always learn things even basics that we missed, TY Dom! I laughed when I saw the cut-tail command, because I do this all the time by two commands:Split ->Delete. Now I know better 😂😂😂
Great vid! THX! I use zom to selection or selected events a lot. For my DAW that is "p" for making a selection of the selected object and then "Shift+A" to zoom to that. Also F3 is an often hit key. But many new commands I know now ;-)
Awesome list. I was not aware of alt/opt + s to zoom to selection but will be using it all the time now. Even though it's not a shortcut per se, I didn't know about alt/opt clicking anywhere in the arrange window to place cursor. That's a huge help on a large monitor.
As with all your vids, I not only learn new things which are part of your main topic, but also a whole bunch of other things that are flying by unrelated. EG getting the Key Editor to show colors for PARTS. Oh my!!! Thanks so much.
Can we please see any customization you have for quick controls or any cc hardware mappings you use? I would love learn how to wire up my pre gain to a rotary knob for gain staging.
Thank you Dom, I'm in the state where I want to speed up my workflow and these are amazing. I knew just a few of them, I'll start working on them. I really would love 20 more of course!
Yes that’s also useful! But sometimes you want something more permanent because you might need to use other modifiers at the same time and your hand becomes like a stretched octopus 😂
These are really useful. Thanx Dom. A very handy one for me is 'Bounce audio'. I use ctr + B & also a 'select audio after the curser on all tracks' shortcut is handy for many projects. I think i use Ctr + J
Thanks Dom! You make our life easier and our work in Cubase more fun!... my favorite was SHIFT + click to move the cursor hahahaha... I just updated my shortcuts... Thanks 😁
The alt-shift click to move the playhead just changed my life! the top bar is so thin and i can’t count the number of times i’ve been fighting with the cycle bar. now the fight is over ❤
2 more that help me _allllll_ the time: Z and CTRL + scroll wheel. Z will collapse all channel heights and toggle any currently selected channels between that same small height or a very tall expanded view (just try it and it'll make more sense than I can explain lol). If you hold CTRL and use the scroll wheel, you can zoom in or out wherever your cursor is hovering in the project window or editor windows. I use both of these almost religiously.
@@BleuNoirProductions Oh good, you're already hip. I find stuff all the time in Cubase that I didn't realize had been there for a decade, so I try to pass it on lol
@4:27 I have group into folder / group tracks / and then find folder called folder (logical editor) as a macro so I can rename the folder as one short cut as I do this these three steps all the time! Cubease macros for the win. Great video as always Dom
Thank you very much! I have used many of mentioned shortcuts, but also many were to me a big suprise and now I know how to improove my workflow! You're the man!
Another value content video. Your channel is by far the best Cubase channel out there. That is a fact. I use Cubase as long as it exists. However, most of these shortcuts I did not know. Thanks a lot again, Dom!
Hi Dom! Thank you for your wonderful demonstration! In you video: Get Crystal clear mixes EVERY TIME - tell me, what song is it? And who is the wonderful singer?
Excellent as always Dom. Two things I learned: 1. The "Bounce MIDI" command is what I have normally done with the glue tool, like you displayed. (bounce is a weird word for this but it's ok). 2. The Mute/Unmute objects is what I normally have done with the "X" tool, activated by the 7 key. This key command (W) is faster/easier, of course.
Dom, you really made my day with Alt + Shift + click! I am cutting our regular radio show in Cubase and I was missing this shortcut the most - thanks, man! Great videos, keep up the good work!
Like alway - very helpfull tricks. Thanks Dom - you are alway on my playlist. The zoom tips are new for me and very clever. What I use always are: show tracks with - or without data.
Excited to dive into this one, thanks Dom! I'm a new Cubase user (also using Ableton) so this is gold for me. I'm loving the various key commands/shortcuts you can set up, and the overall customization capabilities Cubase offers.
Thank you Dom! Having arthritis slows me down these days, but your energy and tips keep me from stopping. My custom key commands aren't nearly as intuitive, so I don't feel comfortable sharing, but they serve similar functions. Please share more! It was very validating for me to see a true pro who emphasizes a similar work flow (like you often do).
Of course my key commands are a hybrid of what I used to use in Pro Tools combine with whatever my brain naturally wants. But I’m happy I actually use all these functions in my everyday workflow as well.
I've added two shortcuts to insert silence and another to lower the gain by 12db. I use them mainly while editing audio. the latter to lower the breathing volume, without removing it entirely. Some of yours were new to me and interesting, some only new ;-).
If you select: Transport - Use Video Follows Edit Mode, you don't need to press any modifiers to point and click and have your cursor reset anywhere in the project window. I have a macro that does it as well. That was one of the things that was maddening when I first came over from Protools, where that cursor behavior is the default.
