Got one of the vivid blue EP3:s here in Finland. Mine came from Estonia to Finland in 2009. So I actually might have the only Blue Type R from Estonia :D
You continue to impress with your ep3 knowledge and make me love my Canadian 02 SIR more and more. Since we never had a real CTR till the FK8R and now FL5R (I've one on order), I've been modding mine for two decades, includes k24a2, JRSC, Quaife LSD, willwood 6 piston, Konig Hypergrams, Feels coilovers etc...keep up the great channel!
Appreciate it man! It’s mainly just info I have picked up over the years plus a bit of research over a couple of days. The FL5 is on my list of cars to own! The perfect modern all rounder, just like the EP3 but with all the bits you want from a modern car. That must be a riot to drive! Some tasty bits on that! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Great, thanks for those. I've had mine since new from Sept 2003, and there's some facts I didn't know!. Mine's a late pre-facelift (53 plate), and it does have rear head rests, so I'm not sure when the last pre-facelifts rolled off the line? One random fact was that the earlier versions had dual valve springs (inner and outer), whereas the later ones had single valve springs. As mine is a late pre-facelift, my tuner said when he changed the cams, that mine was fitted with the stock single springs, so was not an issue swapping them out straight for the Toda single springs. The later pre-facelifts were pot luck on what springs you got. The R build numbers never seemed to make any sense chronologically, and seemed to just randomly come out of a parts bin. Mine's 19652 in NHB, pre-facelift, 53 plate
No worries! That is super rad! One owner from new! Can’t be too many out there with theirs still! Apparently the head rests were added to EU cars in 03 due to law changes. The JDM cars didn’t get them. Oh wow! That is interesting! I never knew that!
Awesome video Olly! Everytime I watch one of yours on the ep3 it makes me smile knowing how much I enjoy mine. Tempted to remove the spoon decals on mine and just go back to the clean look. BUT having bought the spoon decals direct from spoon twice now and knowing how much I’d have to pay again if I changed my mind stops me doing it 😂🫣
Thanks man. Appreciate you watching every time! Don’t do it! Haha! You will regret it! I love the Spoon sticker look but don’t think it will look good on my car. I have them sat in my sticker box just incase though! They are silly money aren’t they!? Haha
@@OllyRoss 😂🥲yep. The only reason why I haven’t taken them off. There’s a few other spoon parts I’m after this year such as gen2 steering wheel again and possibly jdm interior. My son has just been given his first car (mk1 focus 1.4) so I’ll probably be helping him out getting it where he wants it before he’s able to learn to drive in 2 years 😂
@@OllyRossthanks for the interesting video, also your upload with the EP3 Designer is legendary. I also would like to know how many FN2 were made. Maybe its worth a separate video for you? Cheers from Germany
A total of 29,039 Type-R specification FN2 models were built at the Honda factory in Swindon, 13,514 RHD for the UK, 8,378 LHD for Europe, 3,510 for Japan, 2,285 for Australia, with the remaining units heading to the Africa and Asia regions.
As usual good video very informative, I have a blue one in Ireland not sure if it's original blue but still looks good, looks a bit like yours, same wheels same front bumper same spoiler😅when I seen your Ep3 with that front bumper I said I must have it haha
Im super-impressed by your knowledge on these. I've had mine since 2018, been in love with them since my mate owned one in 2001. Seeing how cheap those mugen parts were, and all the different models ect makes me a bit sad, I know for a fact in about 10-20 years these are gonna BOOM 💹
Thanks man! I am glad you have enjoyed this type of video too! Yeah, if only we could have seen what was coming! Scooped up all the parts back then! Haha!
Had a 30th Anniversary in silver and the recaros just had black lettering (in mines anyway). It had a sticker in the middle of the back window under the wiper that just said 30th Anniversary.
Nice job my friend!but I have a guestion!how is it possible 25,768 ep3 's are produced when at the same time there is ep3 's with serial numbers leading to 40.000.???
Are you talking about the piece on the drawer? If so, I think they just randomly put the plaques on the cars so they don't actually correspond to an actual build number. I could be wrong though
Pretty interesting to know that my Milano Red pre-facelift is a bit rarer than I realised! I thought I knew most stuff about the EP3, but the Race Base and factory blue EP3s I had no idea existed. Great video! 👍
It will be even more rare if it is actually still red too! Haha! Thanks though man! I have started a list for part 2 because so many people enjoyed this one!
annoying they made the ep2s in vivid blue but not the type Rs here in the uk lol, i would get a respray but they it would just look like ive put a type R kit on my ep2 🤣
My dad had a 04 Si EP3 in the states.. that was his way of getting another Si since his 91 CRX when I was a kid. Definitely wasn't the fastest my VTEC swapped 91 Integra was wayyy quicker.. but now I currently own a 93 Si I'm going all out on. Oh lil fact too.. 02-03 EP3 rear rotors are a direct bolt on for 92-95 Civics and 94-01 Integras since they are 4x100. I'm running the EP3 rears with DC2 R calipers. And the fronts are a custom 11in Front with DC2 R calipers..
@@OllyRoss yeah the final assembly was done at Swindon but very nearly all of the ep3 parts came from Japan, that is the difference on the fn2 where most of the fn2 parts are from Europe. I’m a long serving honda dealer technician
Yeah, I have since found out that the premier edition only happened in the UK because Honda didn't sell as many JDM facelift cars as they thought they would! Something to talk about when I do part 2 of this!
The rare japan model with no interior light on the front is normal. My 5 door 2001 doesnt have dome lights at front but only at rear. I think in 2002 or 2003 the front got dome light too. Also the headlight washer is common in europe. My 2001 had it but i deleted with type r bumper.
I believe that the 5 door got different options to the EP3 but I could be wrong. Having HID headlights in Europe must have been something that the UK cars didn’t get as an option. (Which is weird because my S2000 has them)
Interesting video. Some facts I knew and some I didn’t. Re prices of pre facelift cars I was under the impression non AC was £15,995 and AC was £16,995. The 30thAE came with AC as standard so was the same price as a normal pre facelift with AC specc’d. Price was same for facelift cars (£1000 premium if you wanted AC). Did premier EP3’s come with AC as standard? And were these £16,995?
Very interesting! Wild that you would have basically paid no extra for the seats with the 30th anniversary then? Seems like a sweet deal! Not sure on the Premier cars to be honest!
the Recaro logo on the JDM seats is just completely random, which is also the case for the 30th anniversary edition. I've seen them in white, beige and black and they don't seem to follow any pattern either, I thought maybe they did it by the year of the car but that doesn't seem to be the case. Mine is a 2003 and the logo is black, if anyone else has a 2003 let me know the colour 🤷♂
I had a 30th anniversary version in milano red, and unfortunately a year ago today I had to let it go due to horrific rust😭 will always have a soft spot for the ep3 but my k swapped eg does soften the blow🤣
Insane video, so much info! Interesting fact about prefacelift cars not having headrests in the back. My car is from Italy, facelift 2005 version that is also without headrests. Of course it is possible, previous owners replaced it but interestingly some other Italian facelifts on sale right now also have no headrests. Might have been a Italian thing.
That is weird. I have found out that the headrests were introduced halfway through the production of the preface cars due to a EU law change for crash safety. Weird that you have seen a few cars without the headrests though
The one about pre facelift not having head rests is wrong, it was only 01 and 02 that didn’t have headrests as from late 02 build euroncap needed rear head restraints so later pre-facelifts still have head rests
I was waiting for someone to mention this. That is actually the same red car as in the middle, just a different angle. You can tell by the decals on the bonnet
Don’t forget in the costs the 30th anniversary had A/C standard and it was £1k option on the premier / final edition. My premier brand new in 2006 was £18,395 which included A/C & metallic paint they did deals on them though as the fn2 had been leaked and lots of people waited for that.
Great vid as always Olly. You memtioned how many EP3 Typers were made and how many are left but id love to know how many cosmic greys (the best colour) were sold in the UK and how many are left. Can you tap up your contact from the swindon plant to find out??
Thanks man! I am not sure if they would know that kind of info as they were pulling the details from total build numbers I believe. I am not sure how you would find out what was left in each colour either
@@OllyRoss No no idea myself but I've got obviously got high expectations of your researching skills! 😂 Keep it in mind and maybe someone will pop up from you network who knows the answer. I guess it would need to be through DVLA
Had mine Stolen 2020......Crash&Burn!!!😢😢😢 Got a FK2 (Final edition) now 40k miles.....Only do 1000miles a year in it. Rammed with technology.......But Miss my EP3 😢😢
Great video, couple extra bits, the rear bench on a JDM is a different shape to the uk and like the pre facelift has no rear headrests, the JDM gearbox is also different to the UK and had the same ratios and lsd as the DC5 and FD2 I believe, the JDM wing mirrors are also power folding and the UK Facelift had heated mirrors
My pre facelift came with rear headrests and that’s not been changed since first ownership as far as I’m aware. Mines a 03 so could be possible it would have been really early facelifts or a factory option to have rear head rests added. Mine also came with auto a/c climate control too. (Optional)
I bought 62a hasport mounts and pretty satisfied with choice, they are stiffer but not like making a car into big rattle machine if you know what I mean haha
@@OllyRossthis one’s quite small. it’s the rear wing drivers side panel. but because of this a lot of people saying insurance company will write it off. wishing i never informed them. is it possible to go back and say don’t worry. they already know about it but haven’t even bothered to come down and look at it yet
I always wondered why they did not put the EP2 back seats in to match the red bucket seats. I am surprised you haven't done so either given the colour combo you have gone for!
