I really hate that my fish choices are now salmon and tilapia. What happened? It is so sad. A young woman didn't even know what cod is.

We often had pan fried sunfish with boiled potatoes and a garden salad of onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Grandpa would collect worms from the garden to catch the fish. The potatoes and salad stuff came from the garden, too. Simple ingredients but delicious. It was an easy meal but you still had to work for it, you know what I mean?

We still can find a can of gefilte fish at grocery stores and we really have it as a big deal in our household often. And I had in my time the pickled herring dip spread myself. After it rose to popularity in America.

We have herring in cream sauce every year on Hanukkah. I don't care for it, though, I prefer lox and whitefish salad.
