All these historical facts were not written in our history books in school . Pupils in school learn mostly about history of West Malaysia. This made locals like me lack of knowledge about our own historical stories. Education ministry never put an effort to let pupils to learn about East Malaysia 's history. Mostly for locals, every building that you have shown here are just an old building without knowing it's history...Thanks Nick to educate the locals about these historical facts that we don't even know, as never learned in school.

Don't talk nonsense. I've learnt about Sabah and Sarawak in text book more than I know about my state Johor.

@@shukriramlee go and check your text book... which history text books from primary school till form 6 got mention what did Nick mention here in this video? All we learnt was Sarawak was ruled by Brooke 's family.

Amazing. This video knowledgeable and interesting. Sarawak has a lot of historical places. In further future, Sarawak will become developed city. Lot places to be explored but most of the places must have own transport to go visiting. For example, Kampung Budaya, Rumah Panjang Mongkos Serian, Tasik Biru Bau, Siniawan and others all have own historical.😊

Sir James Brooke, Rajah of Sarawak KCB (29 April 1803 - 11 June 1868), was a British soldier and adventurer who founded the Raj of Sarawak in Borneo. He ruled as the first White Rajah of Sarawak from 1841 until his death in 1868. Sir Charles Vyner de Windt Brooke (b. Sept. 26, 1874, London-d. May 9, 1963, London) was the third and last “white raja” (1917-46). He joined the Sarawak administration in 1897. After World War I, a boom in rubber and oil drew Sarawak further into the world economy, and for that and other reasons the state embarked on gradual modernization of its institutions. Public services were developed, a Sarawak penal code modeled on that of British India was introduced in 1924, and there was some extension of educational opportunity. Brooke was knighted in 1927. In September 1941, on the centenary of Brooke rule, the third raja proclaimed a constitution designed to establish self-government for Sarawak, but shortly afterward the state fell to the Japanese. When World War II was over, Vyner Brooke decided that Sarawak should be ceded to Great Britain, and, after a bitter family feud, he formally terminated Brooke rule on July 1, 1946.

One of the very interesting areas in Ulu Padawan. You can also go to the next village such as Kampung Sapit and Kampung Abang. Many places and unique nature are there.

Love the video - I was hoping you might know how Kuching got its name - There appears to be no definitive answer. Some say it come from a Chinese word meaning 'port' Some say it is named after cats (If so, then why ?) - Hope to bump into you some day.
@GlobalGibbon
@GlobalGibbon Год назад
All I know is that there are multiple stories about how Kuching got it's name. One of the stories (probably not true) is that when James Brooke arrived at this village he pointed at it and asked what the name was. His Malay friend thought he pointed at a cat so he said "Kuching" which means Cat in the local language. I kind of like this story, but it's probably not the real story - haha!
