50 years ago my young brother caught 3 salmon in one day on the river Leven,he was 14 years old ,fishing for sea trout with 6lb.breaking strain line, the biggest was 22lb,he walked over a mile with this fish, and it in the local papers and the photograph wad displayed in the window of the local sports shop, he went on to win many competitions, but it will never be equalled, since passed away, but a star
Bless him. Always Be remembered though and plus he had a picture of the fish he caught. Nothing worse than catching a monster Fish and No Camera to prove it !...I think most fishermen tell their stories about how big the fish were they caught. I think this lad in this video, was poaching that river. And NOT having a landing Net haha. (Part Timer haha)..
@@ronnysvensson8232 oh mate, get over yourself, i've been fishing for over 30 years and YES salmon do get landed with there heads out of the water just like any other Knackerd fish does. Again , yes they do come close to the waters edge when they are knackerd and worn out BECAUSE they dont have a choice. landing a 20lber on a 9 ft 6/7 weight rod and 8lb line, foul hooked or not is just brilliant! not to say the hook size was probably a 10 or 12. however the fisherman really does need to invest in a net. well done buddy (Fishing 4:20) bloody good job young man.
Ronny Svensson your a complete fool 😂, the fish was raped up in the line at the end! Of you look properly, and get the hook saying is because my took the fish out the water witch i did not want happening, You trying playing a 20lb plus salmon on 8 pound line and trout gear 👍 Now go anoy someone else that cares
A Keeler thank you and to confirm the fish was raped up in the line, as you can see what i have said to the other idiot above 😊 lol Tight lines to you sir 😊🎣🎣🎣
What a take that was the speed that salmon ran 🏃♂️ up stream was crazy great fun the old reel sounded class wish all the fancy expensive reels that you get now sounded half as good of the old leeda did 👍 👌
The jealously in these comments is unreal 😂😂😂😂 that was an amazing bit of skill buddy and you just remind me of the way i fish in Ireland. Pair a trainers on wee small rod smashing big salmon. People talking about nets 😂😂 any real salmon or trout man doesn’t need a net. You’ll never forget that day well done 🍀
Around 20 years ago I caught an 18lb salmon by Rees' yard, Abergarwed on the river Neath in South Wales in mid march. I was fishing for trout with an 8ft 4wt rod and a 5lb Kamasan leader with a very drab goldhead dubbed rabbit body greenwell hen hackled nymph. I had fished for a mile of water without a single rising fish despite a very heavy hatch of Baetis Rhodanii and not a single take to my nymph. I was about to give up when I heard a large splash downstream. I marked the position between 2 ash trees and quartered the river in an across and downstream fashion. When I was just thinking I had passed the point where the fish rose I had an unexpected arm wrenching powerful take. After a short fight a beautiful hen springer literally a bar of silver floundered on the surface quickly tamed by the softness of my 4wt rod which also protected the relatively light leader. My net was hopelessly undersized and so I very carefully waded to the limit of my chest waders to a shingle beach downstream towing the played out salmon behind me. Twice it revived and offered progessively shorter runs. When I reached the beach I quickly tailed the exhausted fish. I would have killed it but I had drawn the attention of a bailiff badly hiding in the vegetation on the opposite bank. Although I had a salmon rod licence it was before the date when you could take salmon in England and Wales. It was barely alive but I managed to revive it to the point that it very slowly swam a few yards and stationed itself in deeper water. I went back to my car, waited 5 minutes then went back to see if the bailiff had gone so I could tail it. He had gone but so had the fish. Your tackle looked something like a 7 or 8 wt rod which is why your fish was able to fight for longer in my opinion. That day the pool at Rees' yard held many spring run salmon, hiding their heads under submerged logs and big rocks their backs were a beautiful slate blue colour in the deep water. The following spring there was no run.
Nothing quite like the sound of a single action fly reel with a clicker on a hot running fish. The sound of my Hardy Lightweight series reels is like angels singing to me. Thanks for the music!
Excellent fight from the salmon and well done, by the way the reel sounds fantastic, I love loud clicker reels, and I know a few angler's that never carry nets and don't worry about people saying it's less damage to the fish using a net, salmon are so strong and tough with the obstacles they have to overcome don't get rid of the leeda reel it sounds class 👍🇮🇪 🍀
if you fish catch and release why bother netting it? leave it in the water, take the hook out and watch it swim off, i catch pike, pollack and trout and never use a net
1 of the best if not the best salmon fights I've seen , The speed of the fish when first hooked was unbelievable, Great fisherman ,He played it brilliantly,
Scotsman in the Philippines never forget it 😊 wasn’t prepared for a salmon as i was targeting trout that day, hence why no net and trainers flying off 😂😂😂
I hooked a 33 1/4 lb fish on the river lochy (tailrace) at 8 yrs old, my father cast the line for me on a 17ft bruce and walker cairngorm fly rod with a homemade tube fly ,red and yellow deer hair, black and yellow body with gold banding, orange hackle tail, i will never forget the power of that take! Father had to play the fish as it was obviously too much for my wee arms, very next cast a 27lb.the good old days when fish were plentiful May 1989.
Wel landed on that gear buddy, I had a 14lb pike a couple year ago on a wee ultra light perch set up, was some scrap aswell, 6lb leader no trace managed to land it 😁
Trout gear and trainers nowt a matter with that wev all done it when you least exspect a big fish .....but to hook this by mistake no one new what was ahead ..well done lad well played under the circumstances ..
I also think foil hooked. A salmon usually doesn’t tear off like that when properly hooked. Also the angler was very keen to have the hook took out before the camera showed the fish 🤔
Flipping heck, that take was crazy! I'm no salmon fisherman myself and normally stick to pike. I thought an 18 lb pike fought harder than any fish I had seen....until I saw this video.
fi s i have pike fished the scottish highland lochs and venacher and awe for many years but 2 seasons ago i got into salmon fishing on the findhorn and believe me a fresh salmon of 15lb is way beyond pike of 20lb, i had an 18lb fish this year take my shooting head and 100 yards of backing! even a wee grilse of 6lb is strong, pike can't match a salmon for power
Id say i fairy got it in quick for being on 8lb line and 11 ft rod mate, 20 pound salmon on that in that about of time in my eyes is good 😊 and why hardy? Haha
@Mark Turnbull i agree, i've had loads of angry rainbows between 15-20lb (ok it's not a wild salmon) on 9.5ft rods and 7wt line and even some on my 8.5ft sierra pico 5 wt, it was tremendous fun
Excellent fight the noise of that reel screaming was music 🎶 to the ears lol mate next time garry is tailing a fish for you tell him that his thumb has to be facing the salmons tail otherwise he'll break the grip all day long. Here's to another fishing 🐟🐟🎣 season 2022 🥃 👍
Small rods big fish ...that's the only way to do it..14 ft rod on the Nairn or Lossie I don't think so...even on the Spey etc ..much more fun..give it a go
Wow, you have a good feeling for how hard to brake the reel without snapping your leader. Lucky you didn't have to go running in the river to keep up with him 🙂
I hope you put it back - salmon stocks are seriously endangered and that was a breeding adult - if you took that fish it is criminal and you have no respect for the species
He’s not letting on, but judging by the splash it was a heftyish lure. I noticed 8lb nylon mentioned, I think he might have been being a bit naughty ‘trout’ fishing. If so, brilliant result. Better still, the fish decided to run upstream and the bank was easy going!
Me like a lot. What a take, great filming and the gear, oh gosh. Classic. Nevermind all the bolony about the missimg net. Nets are for wimps. Real fishermen land by hand 👈💪🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣 Greeting from DK 🇩🇰
@@troutmaster1932 Gutter, looks like a right good fight either way. I started fly fishing a few months ago and havent had the chance to get a fish on the reel.
