This is the Twentieth video in the series on the Timber Framing Code. Noggins are used to help stop the studs from twisting and to provide support to internal linings,fixtures and fittings that will be installed later. This video looks at working out the size of our Noggins

Thanks for yor informative videos, very much appreciated. I was wondering if you could tell me the purpose of noggins in the overall scheme of building, as I own a house 100 years old with 12 ft ceilings and none of the walls have noggins just an intermediate top plate at 10 ft and all studs morticed into top and bottom plates.

Mick Metcalfe HI Mick Noggins are generally installed to minimise the chance of the studs twisting. They are also used for fixing the perimeter of sheet linings when required. Mortising was very common back then. Hope this helps Buildsum
