I'm both grateful and jealous-- you have an excellent platform here to enlighten us about film, and you're good at it, and though (like anyone) I can't agree about everything you say, I agree with quite a bit. That being said... I've been saying what you said about Blade Runner for decades. DECADES dude. You said it better. More concise and respectful, but mostly more efficiently. The very points you made about the age of the film and how much has been borrowed, and how little of anything like it (read: nothing) came before... is what I tried to explain years before it finally had momentum as not just an underground hit, but recognized as a great resource and piece of art imitated endlessly to this day. Thank you. I'm jealous you get to say it and now take credit for the concepts (yeah I know it's been said before but yours was lean and mean), and I'm kicking myself for not getting a channel rolling myself long ago... but grateful you do film experience justice so often.

One thing I've learned to watch for that helps weed out the garbage on Netflix is that little red N icon on the movies thumbnail when going through there selection. If the movie you are considering has that red N, it means it is a Netflix original. Its best to stay away from those. They are almost always crap and to be honest, if you've seen one you seen them all. They basically take the same movie and make it over and over again with different actors and settings. Netflix originals look good, but they aren't. Stick with the real movies and avoid the red N.

All are either from writers I love, or recommended by people I trust (This channel included). And yet, I find myself re-watching movies that I've already seen....I've lost count of the number of times I've watched e.g. "The Sunset Limited" Part of it is not wanting to spend 90 minutes on what might suck...And believe me, I've seen my share of absolute crap. Part of it is....Well, you know what you get, I suppose. So in a channel of movie-aficinados, am I the only one leaning into what I know?

@LessThanExpertRacing... just my two cents, but I'd recommend working the nerve to watch all of the movies you haven't seen that you do have. If a movie doesn't interest you in the first 15 mins, just skip it and move on to the next one. That will save you from wasting too much time on movies you may not like. If you continue to simply watch movies you've already seen, then you are actually missing out on movies you may actually enjoy even more. Good Luck.

Jaws has one of my favorite camera tricks and is possibly the first time I ever saw it. I don't know the name of the technique, but it's done using a zoom lens and the camera moving away from the actor at the same time. As a Fincher aficionado, I did enjoy The Game as well (Zodiac my #1). As for Se7en (which granted, I probably have viewed the most, even to the degree that it's resonance has faded a bit) there is one issue I have with that film that parodies that one (infuriating) missing piece of the puzzle. It is of the finale I am referring to (which I know many consider the ultimate OMG moment 1st time viewing the film), to my point. Of the 7 deadly sins, each had a subsequent guilty (victim) who was killed for committing that sin, all except the protagonist Mills (Brad Pitt), guilty of the Sin Wrath, yet unlike the other 6 who were killed, Mills is not. He is broken & disparaged, but like that missing puzzle piece, he is alive. I wouldn't make such a fuss, Se7en is by all accounts a great success for a director's sophomore film release, but SO much of the film is built around the premise that these victims were guilty of a Deadly Sin and therefore had to die for committing said Sin. If I am mistaken in my thought process, have been foolish in missing some key element or you don't agree w/ my interpretation, please reply.

Maybe.....the thing is they are both campy. The difference is Mars Attacks knows it and is owns it. Independence Day thinks it is that generation's Jaws or Star Wars. It ain't.

When a horror or SciFi flick has as many big name stars in it as MARS ATTACKS is, it's a sign from God that the movie is going to suck. And that's what happened. Best family movie inspite of the language is INTO THE WEST. The kids nay not even catch it though with the thick Irish brogues.

I watched Million $ Baby in a theater when it came out. SO sad. Great flick. I loved it at the time.

I really like the concept, there are definitely quite a few movies in here that I re-watch and a few that I will give a shot. Perhaps keep it to 12 movies instead of 20.

You have been working with your kids on that new math stuff, haven't you? If Labyrinth came out in '86 then it is almost 40 years old and not just 30. Your reviews are so good though, that we can excuse your math. Keep on giving us the good stuff.

APOCALYPSE NOW Redux. 45 minutes longer and a lot more topless scenes. LOL Both bunnies show their tatas . Sheen gets a lot more screen time in character development.

I LOVE "The Labyrinth""! 🥰 Still re-watch this one even tho I'm 48 by now... And "JAWS" also a favorite. "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" REALLY made me Notice Johnny Depp & his Girl (in movie) cuz the talent they got is just Crazy!!! ❤‍🔥 & DiCaprio also. Amazing Performances indeed! Always Good Movie & you name Director! Have a Nice One! ✌

I SERIOUSLY thought Leo was legit mentally ill cuz he was SOOO convincing in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Then when I saw Titanic - I was like "HOLY SH*T this actor's great!!!!"

DVD, JAWS over Leon, The Professional??? I will admit it's a close call, but Leon is Number One. No need for special effects (OK, a few...) to carry the story, it is cinematography at it's finest. Don't get me wrong, JAWS is a classic, but The Professional is the GOAT! Love you, long time, DVD!

Darren, I know you don't know much about fragrances so I just wanted to clear things up for you based on what you said about "The One" being the only fragrance for men by DG. So, Dolce and Gabbana has about 40 fragrances for men and that doesn't include the ten or so unisex ones marketed to them as well. Thought you'd like to know.

Respectfully disagree about Final Cut opinion on Blade Runner 1982. AGREED that it be on this list, however, you suggested that the Theatrical narrated version plays to the concern of the audience's understanding. I don't believe that is the case here. I enjoy that original version more and believe that it is more of an artistic choice to balance the extreme futuristic sci-fi with a classic 1920's detective noir vibe to find a way to set it apart from the flood of 80's dystopian-shock future cinema.

Do you know anything about "Moving Violations"? It is a comedy. Dude, it really is hilarious. Please try to find it back in the 80's genre. Freakin' hilarious! Have you ever seen a comedic brotherly love? This man tried so hard to be his own life.
