BODY PARTS - I can't believe you didn't mention that the film came out around the time of the arrest of Jeffrey Dahmer. The release of this film in the wake of his crimes was perceived by the general public as very poor taste. Also, what's a "NECROMONICON"? Did you mean "NECRONOMICON"?
Dead Alive (what Brain Dead is called in the states)is so great!!! I don’t normally care for horror/comedy but it’s just fantastic and at that time was the bloodiest film I’ve ever seen. Dude goes through the crowd of zombies holding his lawnmower out like a shield!!! I really like Mimic as well. Virus was cool. Castle Freak is fantastic, there was a series of Vampire movies that came out around that time that had that same kind of low budget thing going called Sub Species. There were 4-5 of them, not all of them good but there were at least 3 I really enjoyed. There’s another sort of low budget sci-fi/horror film called Fortress that came out around that time that I truly enjoyed but it’s hard to find streaming. All of those came out when I was reading Fangoria magazine
Bro I was reading vanguardia from issue number one I bought it 1979 and the Pathmark supermarket where I lived in Newark New Jersey I also have the first 50 to 75 issues plus I got a lot of issues of famous monsters creepy eerie all that shit was good as hell man God I wish it was all back again there was nothing like every week on Saturday morning going to the store on ferry Street and looking to see what new magazines and comic books came out
The value and charms of these movies listed despite their commercial failure, was never lost on me. I seen these movies and I have sympathy for all those involved in making them, but one thing I will say is horror doesn’t need to be standard or on a straightforward level. Horror is so much more flexible and delves into various forms of horror, how it is told, how it is visualized, the imagination behind, the subtle details, the sub genres it branches into.
Event horizon scared the shit out of me when I first saw it, that scene with what appears to be a satanic ritual/sacrifice was enough for me, great movie nonetheless.
Frighteners is a tremendous movie , all the actors are great in it , micheal j fox, the dude R Lee Ermy, and lets not forget the master Jeffrey combs. Fun fun movie.
Brain dead obviously in the United States was called Dead Again and was written by none other than Peter Jackson who would give us the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and so much more than we honestly deserve!
I have seen most of these at some point but been a long time since I watched them. The Frighteners and Stir of Echoes are by far my favorites on the list. I missed Castle freak somehow so will check that out eventually . Alot of 90s Horror in my opinion is more Psychological Thriller which I like but then enters Sci Fi territory which is not my bag. I think of horror as Haunted Houses and Haunted Mansions, graveyards Regular Ghosts and 80s Slasher style. If you like Sci Fi ish and drama pace maybe you will dig some 90s Horror ish movies on this list.
I don't know why The Relic didn't do so well at the theatres I mean I saw the movie and it was really good as it was one of the first horror movies I saw set in Chicago not since Poltergeist 3 which sadly was the last film of the little girl who played Carol Anne who sadly passed away before the movie was finished.
_EVENT HORIZON_ *really was a very wronged and underestimated film.* *This film really surprised me, mainly because it was directed by Paul W.S Anderson. For those who know his filmography, you know that he is not one of the public's favorite directors, especially from the gaming community.* *He was always a mediocre, average director. His films aren't those things. But with this film....* _EVENT HORIZON..._ *it really was a surprise. A good surprise, because the film is great. It has all the elements that any Lovecraft fan loves.* *It's a shame the film wasn't recognized at the time, but now it's getting the true recognition it deserves. As it has already earned the title of "cult", it is a film that is truly ahead of its time. With decent performances, a story that keeps you hooked until the end, and every Lovecraft fan is obliged to watch.* *Another very unfair film was* _VIRUS._ *It's a good film, with decent performances, too, especially from Jamie Lee Curtis.* *I hope it gets real recognition too, because this film is really worth watching.*
Yeah, if you're going to review movies and stuff, don't use an AI voice. Some of the movies were pointed out as not only non profitable at the box office, but actual horrible movies. This site would definitely benefit from actual humans
Another thing about The Relic was the actor who played the wheelchair bound scientist it was James Whitmore the same actor who played a New Mexico HighWay Patrol officer in the atomic mutated ant movie T.H.E.M.
People Under the Stairs has always been a favorite of mine. Even Sam Neil couldn't save In The Mouth of Madness. It was way too all over the place. Jamie Lee Curtis said Virus was the biggest mistake she ever made. I did enjoy Ravenous.
The Relic would have been better had they preserved more of the scary and suspenseful scenes from the book. The darkness aspect is correct. The monster doesn't like light and hunts in the dark.
In the mouth of madness is one of my favorite horror films and its still so creepy after dozens of watches. The scene where the woman is crab walking still gives me the creeps, or the old lady at the inn who becomes a horrible creature herself. Event Horizon im surprised is on this list because everyone i know has seen it. I found The Frighteners to be more comedy than horror, its good though.
All these reviews and others all use A.I. Hollywood wants to use A.I. for their movies so they won't have to pay the performers. If they did that it would kill the industry and careers
Virus sounds like such a good idea for a movie. However, the actual movie is terrible. I don't know why but Donald Sutherland's acting in that movie was awful.
A friend and I went to see Ravenous on opening night and the theater was completely empty, it was just us. We loved it. The only other time I went to see a film and the theater was completely was The Big Lebowski which is now (rightfully) seen as a classic.
I love all the movies here but the descriptions listed of why they "failed to be popluar" seem to all be the same. The blend of genres not being promoted well and other popular movies coming out at the time. Please try to put some effort into it not just repeating the same thing over and over again. Or Dont even say why.... just give us the "hidden gems".
If you're interested in more people coming back to your videos. Every one of these all had other big budget videos coming out at the same time as these. I would have mentioned some of those who supposedly hurt there release. Just saying.
Switched off 3/4 of the way through. The narrator, unlike the films, was incredibly predictable. She just kept vomiting out the same crap over and over and over. Unpredictable Released at the same time as another film Lacked character empathy and depth Didn't have the expected, traditional scares Had marketing and distribution issues The audience was probably confused about what the film was about. Not what they audience expected Please get another narrator. This one appears to be an AI spouting superlatives like a thesaurus. Your channel is called marvellous videos, and it usually is, but FFS, don't use this narrator again because she isn't marvellous.
The full AI text, with repeating the same phrases over and over, having the same structure for all entries down to line by line, and the terrible AI narration upset me, terrible video. Also the pauses in the picture synced with the line changes makes me think only one human was involved in this and he sucked at propating and LLMs. Worst video on the channel so far, but I suspect this is what their future holds, so I'm unsubscribing. Sad.
Brain Dead was just horrible. I've tried to figure out what all the hype was about. Nothing funny about it. Utter garbage. I really enjoyed The Relic. Mimic was a great movie. Such a scary premise. The whole thing being underground added to the creep factor.
