In this video I am shooting my old 2000 model 20" Ruger M77 MK-II All-Weather Stainless Mountain Rifle chambered in 7mm-08 Remington. This rifle is extraordinarily rare and was made back when they still used the old Kydex "boat paddle" or "skeleton stocks" as some call them. It was a Christmas gift (Dec. 2000) to me brand new, from my dad. This rifle is extremely lightweight and handy with the short 20" barrel, and I've taken a pile of deer over the years with it.
It has a 20-inch 1:9.5" twist 416r stainless steel pencil barrel that I had my gunsmith thread and install a permanently-attached 5/8-24 thread adapter so I can run my suppressors.
I'm shooting through my Otter Creek Labs Hydrogen-S 7.62 and it sounds amazing. It's also really lightweight, and compact, and will make for an excellent close-range hunting rig (inside of 300 yards). I'm also running a Rifles Only Gear HAD thermal wrap on the can, and currently a Dead Air 5/8-24 DT stainless adapter, but will soon swap it out for a titanium Otter Creek ZR0-DTA 5/8-24 mount to lighten it up even more.
While he had it, I had the smith rework the factory trigger with a FULL trigger-job and polish and stone all the surfaces, reduce the pull weight significantly, adjust out any creep and take-up, and it turned out amazing, and right around 2-2.5 lbs. with an extremely crisp break.
I also had him drill and tap the receiver 8-40 holes for mounting an EGW picatinny rail scope base to eliminate having to use the Ruger proprietary rings. It is running my old 2005 Kahles Helia KX 3.5-10x50 4D-Dot reticle (1" tube), that's sitting in a set of TPS rings.
This rifle is not going to be a long range rifle, and it shoots 140 grain bullets pretty well. So far, it's shooting factory Nosler 140 BT ammo out to 200 yards about 1.5 MOA, which is more than good enough for whitetails out to 300 yards. I was shooting factory ammo just to get the brass, since I got it for nearly the same price as just the brass, but it shoots it pretty well, so I'll keep shooting the factory ammo until it's gone, then I will be handloading the next batch. Already got the brass prepped for loading.
I get all of my suppressors, tax stamps, and trusts through Silencer Shop.

They really are... I have the big brother to this one, as well (video will be coming up sometime in the near future) but it's a 1993 production 24" 7mm RemMag. And I had all the same mods done to it at the same time as this one, and it put down a 0.299" 3-shot group at 100 with my 160 Nosler Accubond handloads. I don't typically do more than 3 shots in a row with magnums to save the barrel and keep throat wear to a minimum.

Thanks! It was a present new from my dad back in 2000. Still got it after all these years. He had it sitting in his safe all these years, and when he passed last year, I went and retrieved his collection, and all of mine that I had to leave behind due to lack of safe room in my own safe, he let me store them in his. When I got them back, I started modding now that I can have suppressors, and there’s more aftermarket support for them. The best 3 mods you can do to these old M77’s is the drill & tap the receiver for the EGW 1-piece picatinny base, full trigger job on the factory triggers (you can get them down to about 1.75-2 lbs. with no slop), and thread the muzzle. I can’t recommend those 3 minimum upgrades enough to every M77 MKII owner. 👍🏼
