Today is Day 100, longest sobriety stretch in 23 years… I’m actually following through with life plans now, instead of just dreaming about them. Finally moved back where I wanted to be, sold my house, and will start a new career in adult education that would have scared me to death when I was drinking. I appreciate your videos!!

It's been 4 years off the sauce and my senior dog died a week ago. 😢 I thought about a vodka to ease my grief but I knew that I was just desperate to feel less emotional pain so I stayed with my pain and heartache and processed thru it. I watched RU-vid videos on losing a pet. I made a photo album of my dogs life. I was kind and thoughtful to myself. I'm starting to feel better now and because I processed the trauma, it is no longer raw and painful! Using a toxic crutch like alcohol to avoid feeling is a real loser move- I'm free!!! ❤

Write down your reasons why you want to do it and you'll probably find the align with the same reasons that you quit alcohol and then just stick to it one day at a time. Good luck! You got this

I haven’t had a drink for over a year - and I think of alcohol cravings like a radio being on the background and taking a drink to get it to go off. And I would say it took about 30 days for the radio volume to get low enough I barely heard it and then about 3 months for the radio to go off completely. It took me about 6 months to totally get past triggers like holidays, hanging out with my mom (a heavy drinker) and going to bars - although I occasionally still think a margarita would be nice. lol I am proud of myself - getting sober and divorcing my cheating husband are the biggest and hardest accomplishments of my adult life - that includes having kids and making partner at my law firm. lol. Anyway good luck everyone

OMG I love a great analogy! I’m going to use your radio one. As a “recovering lawyer” who also had kids and a controlling, negative, argumentative and demeaning husband, I tried getting sober while I was with him and could not stand the thought of living with him without being able to escape, even if alcohol was hurting me. He was one of my biggest triggers, and continued to be during our 2 year divorce. But once I realized I was able to do things just for myself, and that I had some control over my life, I chose to put my sobriety first and began learning how to actually start living. My relationship with my kids got exponentially better. I loved your comment. It really resonated with me. Good luck to you! 💪🏻💙

On one hand wow 45 days, on the other hand... it's only 45 days. Still, I feel like I'm sober. I judge it by the milestones I've passed. I judge it by the crap days that have come and gone and never once thinking that drinking would solve anything. Instead of taking a drink, I take action... even if it's only not drinking for another day. I really am proud of winning day after day and tonight I'll go to bed without fear of shortening my own life by my own hands. I don't know when I'll stop counting the days. I suppose that will be a milestone of sobriety. Anyway, stay engaged in the battle everyone and slay today's dragon you sober warriors. Thanks Jae... again.

The end of this month will be 7 months sober.. I've been asked why I don't just have one drink... I've considered it... But then I wouldn't be able to say that I haven't had a drink in almost 7 months.... and that would feel like a huge waste of what I've just worked toward for the last almost 7 months... A reset that I just don't want to undergo. This has been an investment if you will and I don't want to lose. I feel too good and am too proud. I would feel like I let myself tomorrow if I gave in today. I drank for over 20 years mostly every day. From my early 20's to my early 40's. It was time to feel what life without alcohol is like. I also need to mention, I am 13 days without weed which went hand in hand with the alcohol. This is the longest weed-free stretch in 25+ years, aside from a 30 day period 10 years ago for a job hire. This is in no way easy but I will not let myself down. RU-vid channels like this one have certainly helped along the way... Thank you

Hi Jae, good video as usual 😊. Hi everyone, on 1st August I will have been alcohol free for one year and I've experienced all the positives Jae talked about. My biggest challenge was the suicide of my little brother back in March & my kids feared it would send me into a spiral of alcohol, but No, because as mad & unbearably sad as I was, I was NOT going to use my brother as an excuse to hit the bottle. Then comes the funeral & apart from my pregnant niece, everyone was drinking and thankfully I didn't even feel tempted. I knew then I could beat this. Alcohol is a poison & it robs us of so much. If I'd given in I doubt that I could have managed my grief. I needed sobriety to cope not alcohol. Apologies for long reply, best, sincerest good wishes to everyone on this amazing journey x

Brother. A few hours ago I got out of the hospital psychiatric ward after completing a 5 day detox from alcohol. I’ve detoxed at home twice before and it was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. I decided to check myself in last Thursday. It was 5 days of hell, they put me in psych ward because they were full in other units more for medically detoxing but also because I have diagnosed CPTSD and have been drinking steadily for almost 25 years and been an alcoholic since I was about 18 and I’m now 40. Your videos have been getting me ready for this day for some months now. Even just seeing the thumbnails sometimes was keeping hope alive that I can beat this. I’m now 4 days sober and I’m never ever going back to alcohol. I’m fully detoxed and committed and ready. I now have an appointment with a psychiatrist to adjust my meds with the plan to get off them completely within a year and have the opportunity for intensive outpatient counseling. Just wanted to say thank you brother. You’re doing the world an amazing service. Blessings and good health to all 🙏🏻🫶🏻💯

I realized I was sober for real about 7 months in when I could stand to look at myself in the mirror for more than 3 seconds; when I realized that I'm proud of myself. It was hard to believe that even though my parents weren't strong enough to get sober for me, I was strong enough to get sober for me. I also realized I'm cooler and funnier when I'm not wasted?? (which was honestly shocking lol) Sobriety also gave me the confidence to care about things again. When I realized that for the first time in 10 years I wasn't severely depressed, that was a good sign lol.There was a point when self pity, shame, and regret turned into gratitude and empathy. I'm finally happy with myself and where I'm at. The path I took getting there was certainly not ideal but when you can't see a foot in front of you, finding a path at all is a miracle. When I stopped feeling bad for myself and started to realize not only how strong I am but also how incredibly lucky I am, I think that's when I knew.

Signs that I was sober: I didn't want to drink, I can go to a bar and have an amazing night just drinking non alcoholic beers, I didn't have any cravings, I was happy and content to be at home on Friday and Saturday nights, mornings were a joy and I was excited to wake up, things that used to be a big deal (eg. a bad day at work) just became minor inconveniences, I was content and happy with the "small things" (a nice walk, a coffee, seeing a movie). My cravings were non existent - when I chose to quit that was it, the desire completely went away.

I told myself that after one year, day 366, I would stop counting days. I will continue to work on my sobriety without counting the days or months. I'm proud of myself. I'm not perfect. Nor am I working on perfection. I just want to heal and be happy. Good luck to all of you. Thank you Jae, your channel is a real inspiration for me.

Stocking up on Large bottles water. Loving my caffeine free cola, more than any other drink. Decorating my lounge and bathroom in black, knowing I have a vision. Others don't have to like it. But I'm going to add silver and bling it up. Painted the garden gate black. Next the fences. Doing the house up means I'm buying things for house. Buying new clothes, and charity new clothes. Buying better food. Walking more.

I LOVE my new sobriety. I’m 115 days free. I feel fantastic and I’m proud of the work I’ve done. The thing that ticks me off the most is so called friends who ask “are you ever gonna drink again?” And they’re asking while they’re drunk. I tell them all the benefits I’m experiencing and they give me the “life’s too short story”. I cling to my choices and tell them to live their own life and I’ll live mine. But man, it ticks me off that they are trying their best to get me to drink again. Some friends.

It's nice to be able to be fully present and really enjoy my time with them. I still get cravings from time to time but I'm able to not act on those cravings when they hit. I'm feeling pretty good. 😊 Thanks for another great video Jae.

Just past 6 months and survived Hurricane Beryl. It took out my fence, my power and part of a tree. In the past I'd have had a hurricane party and dealt with the sweltering humidity and heat 12 ounces at a time. Instead I stuck to my lime flavored Topo Chico (NA), and power came back yesterday. Though I'm still figuring out how to cart away the debris and rebuild what big, bad Beryl blew down. As usual, thanks, Jae!

1 day sober here. Since February 2022, I've started to get my life in order. I've already gone a month without alcohol; it was relatively easy for me, but I didn't feel much benefit during that month, so I started drinking again. Since February 2022, I've gradually added these healthy habits to my life: I drink a lot of water, I eat healthily on a regular basis, I exercise, I wake up and go to bed (except in exceptional cases) at the same times, I almost don't use social media anymore, and I "cured" my PMO problem. And yet, I still have a foggy mind, constant fatigue, anxiety, lack of motivation, ... although less than before with these changes already made. In short, I'm challenging myself to completely stop drinking alcohol for at least 6 months and then see if I should resume moderately or not. I currently view my alcohol consumption as relatively modest because I clearly don't drink every day, sometimes not at all for an entire week without noticing it. And yet, I still feel like I'm experiencing alcohol-related problems (foggy mind, constant fatigue, anxiety, ...). At the same time, I'm also quitting coffee. (I don't think I drink excessively here either, but it won't hurt to try). If, in the end, this isn't my problem, I'll continue to improve other areas of my life. So: wish me luck

I’m convinced that I’m now sober because I really don’t like being drunk anymore. I think I was so hooked before that I overlooked the negatives of how it made me feel. Also, there’s no novelty like when I was young where being drunk was so much fun. So with all that in place : no fun + not addicted/habitual + not liking the way I feel = not my thing anymore. Thanks Jae!

Anxiety is a call to action. Perhaps unmet potential, or worrying about what's not in your control (aka the future). Maybe you have energy that's not being properly used. Maybe you have time that's not being fully utilized. Give yourself some challenges. Give yourself the freedom to explore being uncomfortable when you do!

It has helped me to learn things, I have focused on learning Japanese, improving my English, I am learning to play the guitar and I learned to knit amigurumis, it is true that I have had more "ailments" which I attribute to the fact that I used alcohol to relax and eliminate stress, I understand that it will take time, but we are on the path, anyway, my advice is that you find what you have always wanted to learn or do and had never dared ☺️🙏🏽 I know you will get ahead💪🏽

I'm getting sober ...again. I am at 3 weeks today. My normal triggers are anything including boredom. In the past 3 weeks I have had a realization, I am boring, when I drink I am just boring and drunk. Drinking doesn't make me not bored, it just becomes the thing that I do so I can feel like I am doing something, even though I know it is terrible for me. I do not think I will drink again after this last round, I was disgusted by myself 3 weeks ago, I do not feel the need to drink right now. My goal is to remember that disgusted feeling above all else. Drinking doesn't make me better or my life more exciting, it only takes away my ability to care about things.
@GettingSoberAgain
@GettingSoberAgain Месяц назад
What a HUGE introspection! I've mentioned that exact concept a few videos back that being: life may be boring after getting sober because YOU might be boring if all you did was sit around and get drunk on the couch for the last 10 years! Awareness is the door to freedom 💡
