Seeing the smile on Steve Os face as soon as he started talking about wanting to be sober says so much about Steve's character. He's so genuinely happy to hear somebody want to help themselves and better their lives that he has no choice but shit eating cheesy grin. Super dope

I also think it’s because he so used to those conversations now. I’ve been a part of the program for almost 10 yrs now and I swear I’ve had the exact same conversation with other people at least 100 times. It’s always awesome because when someone approaches you with this, they’re kinda reaffirming that we made the right choice.

I don't drink but maybe once or twice a year, and it's almost always like, ffffffffff'd up drunk.. but I'm 6'3" 250 lbs so it takes a lot but I also feel like I handle my alcohol well when I do drink. I'm the guy at the end of a party giving out bottles of water and advil and multivitamins at the end of a party and I'm like "I wish I was this trashed." After drinking way more than everybody, then I usually end up just drinking water until I'm sober in a couple hours tops. I think a lot of it is just because liquor tastes like a** and I just want to drink until I don't care and then I keep going.

Alcohol and Xanax addiction seem so very similar. I'm not a drinker but I am a Xanax taker. It's a very necessary medication for those that need it, but it can be abused, like anything else.
@bogmon

one of my catch phrases after getting sober was "I realized I have a 'Thinking' problem not a 'Drinking' problem" It's self medication. A device to escape the monkey mind. Most of us didn't realize how much we were suppressing until it all came bubbling to the surface without an ability to press the "mute" button.

Watch Jordan Peterson talk about it with Rogan you have to go through hell to get off it so people never stop bc you feel like "YUH DIEN" (KINGS OF LEON) White Knuckling becomes unbearable to the point where you explode on people and they cant realize the problem bc they never went through it so you hurt people around you. 6 months alcohol free here, and probably the best decision I ever made. I'm 33 and started drinking regularly when I was 16. My brother was my drinkin' buddy all that time. I’ve never had a problem with alcohol. I’m fortunate to not have an addictive personality. After a recent covid bout I needed to clean my body. I went 6 months without a drink. I went to Cabo with my company, 20 dudes. I woke up early, swam and lived healthy and didn’t drink. It went against every grain in my body to not join the party. The feeling I had maintaining this discipline was unreal. I felt so strong, in control and it was euphoric. Saying not to my urges all day made me feel tough as sh$t.

For me, there were not any underlying issues that were making me drink. I did it just because I loved how it made me feel. I was just addicted to that feeling it gave me. But I have been sober now for about 1 1/2 years. I started seeing that I had that addiction and, being as stubborn as I am, I didn't want it to be in control. I wanted control so I stopped. I was drinking tequila shots every night for years. For a time it was rum and coke but tequila, for some reason, just gives me a rush that no other alcohol does. So that's what I drank usually. I wake up each day feeling so much better than when I was drinking. That alone is worth it to me.

Never have to worry about driving through a Check Point, or how you will get home. You are in full control of your life then. Listening to the rest of the clip. They said eat sweets when you have an urge. I say find something healthier because when I quit I gained 50ish pounds from sweets. That quickly evolved into me loving sweets. And not drinking so figured I can get the desert at dinner now. Now I have cut that out a lot and have lost 50ish pounds again. Saying that its scary to think you might never have a drink again. I agree. I still say that today, I sometimes catch myself saying wonder if I could handle this better now. But never progress to thinking maybe I could. I thought I may have a problem so I quit cold turkey. I wasn't a regular drinker but when I DID drink, I went for the record. It was really easy for me to blackout at that point so I quit. Two months later Mom died right before Thanksgiving. We put her in the ground and had Thanksgiving the next day. I didn't touch a drop for six more months after. I don't drink much. Randomly have a beer with friends or in the jacuzzi, but I have bottles for months on end without touching them. Maybe I was being too careful.🤷‍♂️

Oh man Josh, I am having the same issue as we speak. A few glasses of wine a night because I enjoyed it. For 10 years! 9 months ago I got very sick and after a few sips of wine I’d start to get a migraine, and it would last 2 days. Yet I’d still do it. (I even had 1 white claw last night and am sitting on my deck this morning nursing a migraine.) Then I’d stop for a few days and all I could think about was that glass of wine at night. Then I’d have one and migraines all over again. I’m slowly gaining control of these craving. And, I’ve found I have to stay away from chocolate at night. The sugar makes my heart race and I sleep like shit. I’ve realized since I’ve cut waay back that man, I’m boring when I don’t drink. It’s like I’ve died and been reborn and am trying to figure out who I am all over again. I need a cabin on a lake like Josh and just go fishing all day and grow my garden as a way to distract myself from everything that makes me want to grab that wine.

Alcohol is chemically addictive, as well as habit forming. It's normal to want to drink more after having a drink. Just the way that drug works. And I feel what he's saying. Working on reducing my intake and dealing with my stress in a healthier way. It's tough!

Problem drinker here 👋 Did 12 months last year, then drank again cause I thought I had changed or gotten on top of it. Nope, I drank even more. Gave it up again around 60 days ago. Feeling much better now knowing maybe it’s not my thing anymore

I Love watching the moment he says "maybe I do". Yes, us alcoholics can be quite functioning individuals. If Josh is to follow a path of sobriety, perhaps it started here.

I didn't admit I was an alcoholic til I was about a year or more sober. I still felt the need to categorize myself in a different way... It's far easier just to "Surrender" as Steve-O points out and make it an absolute. The decisions become far easier at that point

You have to accept the cravings as an annoyance you have to acknowledge and not react to it. It's like having a toxic boss you have to ignore at work. You WANT to punch him in the face, but you acknowledge that feeling and redirect your energy somewhere more positive.

Here’s how to get sober listen to my fathers story, I didn’t realise he was an alcoholic until he went into hospital during his 70s, lovely chap who drank a bit of cider all his life. When he came home after a few days he was on the dts and manic, he was phoning me to go and buy him cider while he was bed ridden when I was outside the house working on the farm, I refused and we got him sober during the next month. I then took him to the local town for a ride out as he’d got better, first thing he did was go into a store and buy bottles of spirts, cider, etc before food and he hadn’t drunk alcohol for a month, that’s when I realised what a drunk was ! During the following years he never drank again but his kidneys were f#cked and had to have a catheter fitted and every time that blocked he was in unbelievable doubled up pain and every time he would say I wish I’d never drunk alcohol. His later years were very painful and all due to the drink so do it in moderation or it will kill your later in life ⚠️

I'm 37, I've never been a fall down drunk type.. I still haven't missed but maybe a handful of days since 2008 not having some type of alcohol. I want to quit and I'm at the point where I need to accept seeking help because so far I've been weak. Got a 4 and 7 year old that I need too be around for. Gotta figure out a way to kick my nightly ritual n' Man tf Up!

I hit a very similar spot in my life where I wasn't sure if I was an alcoholic but in the back of my head thought I had a drinking problem. After talking with a friend who was in recovery said "usually if you think there might be a problem, there is"
