When she was 14, she became pregnant but her son was born prematurely and he died shortly after birth. Winfrey later stated she felt betrayed by the family member who had sold the story of her son to the National Enquirer in 1990.

her stepmother got her involoved in local pagents. Pagents can serve to boost a young womens self esteem, polish manners and speech so her stepmother did well with that.
