This is a great guide for begineers for 76 and FPS in general. I very much agree with what you said. What differentiates a pro is that he can do it consistently. Unfortunately for me, all of it goes out of the window once I jump into a match and I'm back to square one.
I do all but the ulti combos because they typically nanoboost Rien or Genji. And I combined the flank routes that I learned when I used to main genji with soldier.
always be shooting? im not grandmaster, im high gold so maybe im just a peasant but... isnt that really bad? dont stop shooting? i only shoot when im engaging in team fights or trying to kill someone. if you just constantly shoot into the enemy team at range and tickling a d.va or rein or anyone like that, all you are doing is boosting their supports ultimate. is that just me that thinks that?
It's not my intention to shit on your video, but let me be sarcastic here for a moment, regarding the first point: "You should always be shooting... at the very least you can always be hitting a Reinhardt shield or DVa mech to help bring it down". Isn't that... (gasp!) SPAMMING? Funny, bringing down shields (and area denial) via massive damage used to be one of Junkrat's jobs. But comp players love to badmouth Junkrat, claiming "Junkrat is king of trash damage, only feeding enemy healers", "he's only good for spamming", "if you got gold in damage but not in elims you were useless", with Ster even going so far to state in an interview at Overwatch World Cup that in his opinion shooting things like barriers, Torb turrets etc shouldnt even be counted for a damage card! Gee, thanks, Ster. As an ardent Junkrat player this makes my blood boil. When did Junkrat stop being regarded as a DPS character, esp. good against Tanks? Or even a useful character...? You said "Junkrat struggles to eliminate a single target", bullshit, I used to be able to go head to head against almost any class as Junkrat and solo them 1v1 (except Pharah when she was in the air), problem is these days I catch me simply being too nervous or pissed off because people from theget-go tell me "switch off Junkrat" that I start missing my shots and don't feel the fun I used to have playing him. Why do the competitive players hate him? Because Junkrat's grenades are "too unreliable"? Then why is he simulteneously called "too easy to play, no skill required"? Shouldn't the fact that grenades are harder to aim for direct hits than a hitscan weapon or a Hanzo arrow mean Junkrat players who can lead shots, land direct hits and airshots should be considerd *more* skilled instead of being called a "no skill class"? Weird how in competitive league Team Fortress 2, the Demoman (who also has bouncing grenades) is considered the core damage dealer in 6v6, but in Overwatch Junkrat dropped out of the "meta" so fast he left a hole in the ground? Well, I guess it doesn't help that he is one of the Heroes who haven't received major buffs since... well, ever... while so many other classes have. But really, I love how Soldier76 spamming damage is considered a "pro trick", but Junkrat shooting grenades into a choke or over a wall into enemies is called trash damage. Wtf. /rant
trash damage is when you do damage that is healed up easily and difficult to follow up on. It's great if you can shoot into a corridor and deal damage as junk, but if no one dies as a result of the damage you deal, regardless of character, you are only helping the enemy team.
completely agree that people discount junkrats worth but I think I know why. to get those valuable picks once the shields/defences go down takes an immense change of thought: Your accuracy starts to matter so each grenade is packed with its own situational awareness of it trajectory & ricochet. so the biggest issues is resisting to continue spamming after its necessary and to switch mindset telling myself "ok they're vulnerable now, time to angle my shots off the roof behind them or lead enemy movement with an arched shot." instead of "I'm going to shoot grenades in this general direction and get lucky from a random bounce" skill cap is a poor way to refer to all possible individual assets because it assumes that certain tactics are more "difficult" than others. you could argue symmetra's alt fire is one of the most difficult in the game requiring a deep understanding of the likelihood of the enemy path. or you can conform to "pro" standards and spam randomly.
@Ametzec Dude... Even silver players use some of these "tricks". You're far below diamond if you've never done any of these. And probably a bit stupid too since it's all about logic...
There seems to be a lot of sarcasm in the comments here, but as a new player, I found some of these tips helpful. Bursting fire, turning on my allies health bars and the thing about the changing the reticle. I am new to playing online FPS's games so I haven't put in years of CoD or whatever...so when I got Overwatch last month it's been a huge learning curve. I usually shot constantly as Soldier and D.Va. That's their job, yet it's also to shoot and take out the target they are shooting at. Thanks for the tips...sorry everyone doesn't seem to like this tip video. I do :)
Bat Hob0 I freaking love it. I seriously have to play it everyday... which is weird because I usually don't game that hard. I'm finally able to do competitive matches which really changes the dynamic of the game...but yeah, I like it :) And I am doing pretty good too... Used Mei last night in Comp and beasted... I also used Torbjorn the other night and got a play of the game with him that included 4 kills...only one was a turret kill. :)
oh nice, lol you beasted at mei i could never do that XD (also i just realized I'm on my second account) and killing without your turret lol you're good! what level are you? cuz I'm almost prestige and i can't even get 4 kills with the torb ultimate :'(
Any Soldier trick is OP, because Soldier is OP. I lol'd when he said people joke Soldier is an easy hero. Of course he fucking is. Consistent damage at all ranges, a splash projectile, self-heal and a FUCKING AIMBOT. Fuck Soldier. Yes, I'm salty.
I feel u man. I already hated his design when I first saw him (cause ots boring as fuck) but after his last buff I hate him for his power and dominance as well.
***** OK, I get your point, man (or woman). Of course Soldier isn't some unkillable god-being. Good team synergy takes him down very nicely. That said, I'd like to raise a few counterpoints. 1- Getting good team synergy is pretty hard, unless you play with a regular group. And if you play with the regular Joes, chances are matches won't go smooth and orderly like high tier games. 2- His damage, plus his tendency to flank and move about a lot make him a hard engagement. One Junkrat grenade or a few Pharah rockets take him out, but unless you have pinpoint aiming and get a perfect drop on him, chances are he'll turn your way and blast yo puny ass. 3- He's the only hero apart from Genji whose mobility skill doesn't have a cooldown or gauge. Also, his healing ability is one of the few that allows damaging and healing at the same time (and none of the others are from main damage dealers) 4- You know who else has to go the entire match dodging grenades, arrows and Rein charges? Everyone. But everyone else has to either get in close, stand still or rely on a healer/be lucky enough to have a fight next to a health pack. It takes about half a decent player to be free from all that while playing Soldier. Over to you, good sir. Let's have an enjoyable battle of wits :)
the point still remains that while Soldier is counterable, he is more or less the strongest DPS in the game now in damage ( in both potential and consistancy) while also having high mobility, a healing ability and a very powerful ultimate. He has all the tools in the world and is 9x/10 the best at actually dealing damage and THATS why I hate him.
Which is funny because part of the reason that he requires so much focus to play is because he's so powerful that he gets counter picked and focused down in higher level lol.
Rename the video please. "Twenty basic-bitch tips that Silver players will find useful." Like, come on, I'm barely diamond and all of this is more basic than the average OW player's mothers.
"20 Tricks Soldier:76 Grandmasters ABUSE That You Don't " 1. Always keep shooting seriously? -_- no-one abuses that, we left click... Everyone does that...
then you're propably doing 2 things wrong. either your aim is bad or your judgement calls on who to shoot at what time are bad. you might want to give soldier 76 to another more capable player on your team because he's too OP to not be a powerhouse in any match
Hebrew Marcelin my aim and tracking is really good and i usually aim at priority targets like supports and dps but i am getting teams incapable of following up the damage that i do to tank heroes, im sure after the dva, roadhog, ana nerfs are live i should be ok
Honestly, the upcoming nerfs may see Soldier losing relevance. His main powerhouse advantage is his sheer versatility. If the tank meta declines as expected, then we can have multiple DPS who don't need to hold a whole role on their own. At which point every DPS does something better than Soldier 76 does.
The main thing to notice is how THE REST OF YOUR TEAM is playing. No one left the match early, there's no auto-lock snipers, there are tanks and heals. You'll never be this good solo-que, or without a decent team.
I get what you're saying with the "always be shooting" point, but aren't there times where I shouldn't always be shooting cause i'll be doing trash damage? Like on Kings row for example if I'm attacking the first choke. They're all set up and besides shooting a reinhardt shield if Im shooting anyone else that I can't finish off am i doing trash damage since they'll just get healed?
This entire video abridged: 1 Always be shooting at enemies unless flanking or repositioning (sprinting) 2 Always look for high ground because high ground 3 Use Helix Rocket Jump to reposition 4 Fire in bursts at medium-long range 5 Turn on ‘Bloom’ on controls so you see your bullet spread 6 Turn on allied health bars so you can 7 Use biotic field to save teammates and especially healers 8 if in a 1v1 use Biotic Field as soon as possible 9 Shoot Helix Rocket at enemies’ feet so it’s more likely to cause damage 10 if they’re jumping aim rocket at where they’re going to land 11 if it’s Genji wait until he’s used double jump then do #10 12 Identify low-health targets and take them out first 13 keep a priority list of heroes on other team in your head, so if you have a choice to shoot at multiple people, you already know the priority (Healers and Pharah should be priorities if you’re Soldier 76) 14 constantly hit TAB so you can check enemies’ team composition and check for heroes they’ve swapped 15 chill next to Roadhogs and shoot at the people he hooks 16 if you have an Ana, try to combo her Nano boost with your ult for a crazy good time 17 Don’t Ult until the Rein shield is broken or Dva’s matrix is down 18 Combo your ult with Dvas ult - send the Dva’s self destruct behind the enemy snowball so that everyone runs and the Reinhardt has to turn then you ult and then play shoot-em-up and everyone dies :) 19 Ult the moment you see a Dva or Reinhardt charge away 20 if their tanks are up in your team's face, flank around and Ult to destroy their DPS/support/healers/hopes and dreams
your friend Riot? From Riot Games? He should have given you some real tips -- like how to make a proper Burst Macro. The best ones literally only take .3 seconds longer to dump the entire clip, with 100% accuracy.
but my fps are around 120 and my graphics settings are on ultra. and in the video, the fps are around 120, so either the graphics card is not very new or having low graphics helps in some way, i can imagine it helping you see enemies better, but i'll have to try that for myself. but since i know for a fact that my fps are around the same as in this video and my settings are on ultra, the "more fps argument" makes no sense here.
you basically said what i said but with more certainty, congratz buddy. and no, i dont have any input delay at 120-130 fps which is what my fps stays around
That exactly what Luiz said. smh that there is SIGNIFICANTLY LESS INPUT DELAY around 120fps. And to be quite frank one needs way more than that to really reduce it. I'd say around 200 for this game would be perfect.
INSANE SKILLCAP?! Not even close bro, one of the easiest heroes to master in the game. Blizzard literally made Soldier: 76 just so CoD players can get used to the game lmfao. All you have to do is aim, and the aim is way easier than McCree's too. The only hero that has insane skillcap is Lucio. Easy, but very difficult to master.
Dude learn the definition of skill CAP, it's potential for skill. by definition hitscan has the highest skill potential, yes mcree is there, better than soldier in terms of skill potential, but lucio is garbage easy. Seriously. Mcree, soldier, widow, ana have highest CAPS in the game, closely followed by Genji, Pharah, Road, tracer etc. Because projectiles can always be dodged. Yes, soldier is easy, but he has so much potential for high skill play. some of the highest in the game
You should specify that control settings can also be selectively for certain heroes. Also, you didn't position properly for about a third of your vid xD You shouldn't ALWAYS be shooting into zarya shield or dva matrix if they are about to engage, saving a full mag for actual damage skipping reload animation can turn the fight. Half of your tips are common game sense, not specifically tied with only soldier.
I mean these aren't ''TRICKS THAT GRANDMASTERS ABUSE'' it's just general knowledge to be a better player like: -getting to high places -where to shoot etc. These are VERY useful hints and some people in the comments are just wanting OP TRICKS but these aren't tricks that just GRANDMASTERS abuse.
I can understand that cause it would trade two ults for one but he didn't even pop his ult and he wasn't nano boosted yet. That's the only reason i was like wow
Well, what I learned from this video: All 20 Tricks are something I already knew (mostly from competitive TF2) and am already doing: Protect the healer. Teamwork. Positioning. Prediction. Timing. Know how to pick your fights, and when to retreat. Out-maneuver the enemy. The big difference between me and a Grandmaster (apart from them presumably having godlike aim, bigger screens so they can see distant head hitboxes as more than a pixel even at high FOV, and being able to spot enemies through the visual spam on the screen)? They have reliable teams of people they can communicate and coordinate with. Well, f*** me.
Want a real Soldier: 76 trick? Be conservative with your helix rockets, ffs don't waste it on the Widowmaker. The DPS output (even after the upcoming PTR) is still very high, 11 direct body shots to kill a 200 HP target is still pretty insane considering the rate of fire his Pulse Rifle has. Helix rockets should only be a last resort, use them to either gain high ground in unexpected places or finish off a tank trying to fall back to their supports.
I hear a lot of controversial about how these aren't grandmaster tricks saying they're basic knowledge of soldier:76. The thing is, grandmaster soldiers are still playing soldier... so there isn't anything that only grandmaster soldiers know. It just says GM players "abuse" them. It doesn't say the other ranks don't. Its just English.
I just started playing Overwatch and in my first 3 games I got over 150 eliminations as Soldier 76 without a death. On match 4, I'm on a bad ass 25+ kill streak, and then a Genji nerd swordfucks my asshole and kills me. 1st death ever to the infamous Genji.
Soldier:76 grandmaster? He is the second easiest character in the game, first being Roadhog. Anyone with working hands is a Soldier:76 grandmaster. His ultimate is literally a straight up aimbot.
ZZZzzzzzz.... What the hell is this.... Again, big expectations because of clicbait title, turns out to be one of those 99999 videos of youtube that tells you its good to use a mouse in a FPS game...
Okay, quick thought about the first point, where you should always be shooting. Aren't there many cases where this is purely detrimental? For example: if you already have your ultimate fully charged, and are faced with people without a hope of killing, or you are fighting in an already lost fight, aren't you then simply feeding ultimate charge to enemy healers without any benefit to yourself? Just a thought!
Hello! I would like to know what configuration you have in the mouse, how many DPI is configured and what sensitivity you have in the game. I have a Rog Spatha and an asus whetstone pad. I would like to know which is the best configuration
I think you should have mentioned that advanced players can consider turning off bloom setting on crosshair. Once you have a feel for the timing of the recoil/spread, you no longer need visual queues and might prefer not to have flashing going on around your primary eye focus areas. It can be exhausting and distracting. Other than that, great tips for new players. Aside from soldier specific functionality, i like how you add in the 'gamesense'. Its quite easy to be mechanically good with him, but its harder to learn the situational decisions you have to constantly take.
As a roadhog main i'm glad to hear tip 15 (7:18). Sometimes you hook someone and that guy gets completely ignored by your whole team. I'm masters so this tip is probably insanely helpfull for more then 90% of the playerbase. You dont have to be a soldier or even a dps to follow up on hooks. Just be carefull that if you use things like reins hammer or a lucio boop, to use them after roadhog has shot. Him missing the shot is really painful.
The true key to climbing: Grab 2-4 of your best friends (by best I mean good) , and let the last spot be filled by a friend who hasn't done his placement matches. This'll allow you to go against really trash people, and since your team will be experienced and adept in communication skills you will be able to wipe out the teams. When the last friend is done with his placements, you find another friend to replace him/her that hasn't done the placement matches, and repeat
Holding onto Tactical Visor, waiting for Nanoboost is the worst thing you could possibly do. Soldier builds ultimate too fast for anyone to hold onto it for too long. Popping ultimate creates space, baits out support ultimates and can keeps enemies from pushing forward to a degree. Don't sit there, waiting for Nanoboost to ult.
