Sold my Aygo when it was 3 years old, bought it at a year old at 7k miles and 24 months later sold it at 70,000 miles, due to driving it everywhere, only lost £1500 pound on it in that time. Apparently it'd still going strong and now 150k miles

These are brilliant little cars, get some rust treatment on them while new and regularly service them, you have very few issues with them. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

I've got a 2013 (63 reg) C1 which has 199,600 miles on the clock and is running fine. I've had it since May 2022, when it was on 177,000. Apart from routine maintenance, it's had a clutch and a replacement catalytic converter (the recycling scrap yard paid me £55 for the old one!). I drive around 1,000 miles a month including a lot of motorway and believe me, there is still plenty of life left in this great little car.

Yeah unfortunately corrosion puts an early end to these cars in the UK, most never get the chance to see high mileages as corrosion sends them to scrap. We rust treat all the ones we service to prolong them

Yeah they can achieve very good mileage if looked after, i service a few 1.4 HDI DV4 and they are a nice little car to drive…… but personally after 100 mile or so I’m done driving these little shoe boxes, I feel sorry for anyone doing 200,000+ miles in one of these, good city cars and general driving about, but a motorway cruiser doing them kind of miles, not for me unfortunately lol.

My Aygo has been looked after, it started burning oil from around 40,000 miles though, from what I've read it's normal, still fine but only got 85,000 miles on the clock. I went under the body and painted underbody sealant paint on all the parts that look like they may start rusting. To be honest the underbody looked solid but I'd rather add a bit of extra protection as my exhaust has fallen off twice and this time I spray painted the exhaust with an anti corrosion exhaust paint and greased all of the mounting studs and the welds on the exhaust with high temperature grease (not a spec of rust on the exhaust after 3 months now so hopefully it'll be fine). I think I'm going to try to do a full inspection maybe 1-2 times a year and coat anything that seems like it may become problematic. I've got new brake pipes but they're copper so not sure if I should bother greasing them, may just do it for peace of mind.
@CarAddictGarageNE
@CarAddictGarageNE 2 года назад
Yes that’s good practice what your doing, I do this on most cars I service, including my own cars ranging from new ones to old bangers, always worth adding protection. I use Waxoyl is fantastic, use high pressure air and spray gun protects the whole under body, plus I use cavity wax that works very well. Have a look on my other videos sure I have done a few on anti corrosion methods. Yes won’t do no harm costing the copper pipes, plus do all the metal parts on the flex pipes and unions, exhausts have always been a week point on those, and I find most modern cars burn a surprising amount of oil, usually on average 1L oil per 1000 miles Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@micheals1992
@micheals1992 2 года назад
@@CarAddictGarageNE I estimated about 670mls of oil burn't every 5,000 miles on my aygo which brings the oil to just above minimum, I service my car every 5,000 miles and do 15,000 miles a year. My partner just got a 107 for a courtesy car though and it's got 50,000 miles on and it sounds like a total shitbox, mine sounds like brand new with 86,000 miles. I guess that's something to remember, mileage means nothing if the car hasn't been cared for.
@CarAddictGarageNE
@CarAddictGarageNE 2 года назад
This is what I keep telling people forget the mileage, everyone has this thing about LOW MILES, it’s rubbish. It’s maintenance that’s key, give me a 100,000 mile well looked after car, over a 30/40,000 car that’s been abused.
@steveapt1

Mine doesn't burn oil at 221,000m. Maybe some engines were made better than others. I use 10w40.
@CarAddictGarageNE
@CarAddictGarageNE 4 месяца назад
Yes because Toyota recommends 5/30 and I find that’s far too thin for burning oil, hence 10/40 is the best option

My 2010 Aygo Platinum has done 96837 miles and had very little go wrong with it apart from first month when it had a small crucial seal between engine and gearbox replaced under warranty, it took 2 days and they had to completely remove the front end and engine. Other than that it's had a new alternator 5 years ago and driver's side brake pipe replaced (£600ish main Toyota dealer), the brake discs have been changed 4 times other than that it's just been servicing. All work done by main Toyota dealer I bought it from new. In 42 years this has been the cheapest and most reliable car I've had and have driven from Leeds to places like Cardiff, Bournemouth and Glasgow in it. If you want to know what driving into a brick wall feels like drive on a motorway at 70mph+ and turn the air conditioning system on full, it's the nearest possible survivable experience.

Thank you for supporting the channel David 👍🏼 Must admit as a mechanic we have very few issues with these, if they are looked after. Odd water pump, spring, exhausts were a weak point and the latest big issue with these are the heater fan are a common fail what requires whole dash and steering column to be removed very big job for a fan...... but that’s the negatives positives are they are an all round good vehicle I would definitely own one my self. As for brake pipes that’s my biggest issues with main dealers they charge you top wack, to cover all the fancy show rooms, free coffees and (so called) free valet every time, but can’t seem to manage a few basics of a service like putting some grease or waxoyl on the exposed brake pipes, sooner do the bare minimum and charge the maximum. As these have fully plastic coasted brake pipes from front to back, bar 2/3cm at each join where is exposed metal, takes no more than a few minutes to coat them. That leak sounds like a crank shaft oil seal at the gearbox end, probably just a fitting defect from been assembled. I remember test driving one of these after service and I thought something was wrong due to lack of power, I noticed the A/C was running, turned it off and the car ran perfect again lol.
@micheals1992
@micheals1992 2 года назад
I guess my brakes haven't done bad then, 86,000 miles and I've replaced the discs and pads once (bought the car with 10,000 miles so was still probably the original brakes) although I am due some new ones, weirdly my discs have worn before the pads on both occasions. My biggest expense was on the last MOT the full length of the rear brake pipes needed replacing (£200 at a local trusted garage). My muffler has been replaced twice, the first time a mounting stud rusted and broke and the second time the muffler rotted a hole near the mount (about £35 both times to replace my self) and my center pipe mounting stud rusted and broke off (£45 to replace my self).

@@micheals1992 My car is only Main Dealer maintained since new and done a lot of hard business use and abuse in environments that an average user wouldn't get. Once had driver's side brake pipes replaced at a cost of £650ish. Found brake discs a particular weak point, had 2 exhausts, an alternator, shockers, pedal rubbers. All in all been really reliable. In the 90's I had Escorts that needed mostly rebuilding after 70000-80000 miles. Within weeks of buying new I had to have a under £1 seal replaced between the engine and gearbox which took 3 days and taking the front of the vehicle off. One month after I bought it the warranty on Toyota's was increased to 5 years, ouch!

I remember they had issues with the crank shaft oil seal on the gearbox side on these years back. That’s not ideal be nice if they honoured your the 5 year over 3 years
@CarAddictGarageNE
@CarAddictGarageNE 2 года назад
Exhausts have always been issues on these from day 1, but they are cheap enough that the important thing. I do find these are very heavy on front brakes and tyres for some reason. Again brake pipes keep them coated from new and never an issue, but unfortunately once the salt gets to them they need replacement.

Thanks for watching 👍🏼 Fantastic little cars, just be careful with the automatic ones…. As they are not full automatic they are a manual with electronic clutch and gear change system, they can eat through clutches quickly. We have a Renault scenic 3 as our works car with a similar system but it’s a dual clutch system, 50,000 miles and it requires change, £2000+ for the job. Nothing like that for the Toyota, but still not a cheap job. At least it’s that way in the UK, maybe in other places around the world they fit a full automatic gear box.

So if you have one that’s been well looked after, I think you could get even more miles of one. They do a diesel version, but that’s a PSA engine so probably get less miles than the Toyota petrol engine.
