I’m Laos and I love papaya salad the hotter the better I even made it with ghost chili it was killer and super super hot but the papaya salad was so good I couldn’t stop eating it. If it’s just hot and plain not tasty it’s not worth eating. I don’t care how hot it is if it’s super hot and tasty bursting with flavors I’m game I’ll eat it all.
The “oy” at 7:44 had me laughing out loud. Kudos to you for attempting 200 peppers. 15 is too much for me. Nowadays as I get older it’s less and less. My max is 5 peppers.
I have inspiration from our heritage to do the same as you by sharing our Lao culture through the cuisine. Though I did think of having to display it on youtube yet I never got around because I still needed to learn more from my parents. BUT YOU ARE KILLING IT FAM!!!! Now I can even learn in depth from you as well!!!
I’m so glad you used the short cut to mash the peppers...otherwise I wouldn’t even think of trying it out myself. I’d eat it with khaopoon though. Yum! I love peppers! Good source of vitamin E/antioxidants.
That’s crazy! I eat papaya salad almost everyday but I couldn’t do that lol. I like to enjoy the flavor. The most I’ve done was 30-40 peppers and I won’t be doing that again lol 😅

My mama made me super spicy papaya salad and my tongue was on fire. I couldn't stop eating it and my mama gave me a tip. She told me to put sea salt directly on my tongue and The burning went away slowly. Your papaya salad looks really good! I'm drooling 😍

A Lao friend of mine from years ago (who taught me quite a few things) told me I should have papaya salad with a quantity of chiles equal to my age... I was in my 30s at the time... and said with a look of horror on my face, "no way!" 3-4 is good for me. 200? You win.😂
Most people only smashed the peppers once or twice so they won’t be too hot. Most of their peppers are still whole. You over killed it. I can feel the hotness from watching.
Im southeast asian not thai living in bangkok and i love my somtam or any tam salad variety in phlara sauce and fermented crab often in the street when you dont speak thai they automatically give you the somtam thai recipe with nuts and dried shrimps but i prefer the somtam isaan style i love it also in green mango, cucumber, sweet corn and the seasonal tam kraton or the santol fruit which only available every june theyre the best for me, there was also one time they mix somtam with avocado when i was in koh pangan absolutely delish... I love the phlara sauce in it or those fermented fish juice cause we also have in our home country as a condiment and love dipping it with boiled banana or sweet potatoes. As an asian I love it spicy but not too much probably 5 chillis maximum, i love spicy food but hate the taste of chillis as soon as it lands on my tounge or accidentally ate it, it taste like gasoline. It strange how somtam taste painfully spicy which i ate it as a side dish with bbq meat and rice or gaeng haet (also spicy) or simply rice and omelet (comfort food) I drawn to eating somtam more than the main dish the more spicier it is the more i munch into it.
One time I went to get some papaya salad and I told the lady to make it diarrhea spicy. After I ate it, I almost died! I had excruciating stomach ache for hours. Definitely not going to be that stupid again. Or will I?
