Just traded my 4Runner in for a 2013 570. It's hard to explain how much better it is over the 4Runner. Both fantastic vehicles but the LX/LC are in a class of their own
Would like to see more info about the Cyclone light in the tailgate. I've seen others do this but your version looks clean! Wise choice on the LX... I love mine!
Lexus is loving this surge in interest from the off road/overlanding world. I've been looking at the GX470 and all the expedition one parts that's available for it. Rugged luxury is now a thing lol...at least for me anyway.
The GX470 is just a Land Cruiser Prado, which is a smaller version of the LC with a diesel engine not available in USA. you won’t be disappointed with it
@@victoriouswillisorius5362 Body, Frame, chassis, suspension, aka everything except engine and transmission seems like you don't know how Lexus does the GX at all
Can you please give us an update on vehicle ownership , any mods, likes dislikes, would you recommend one etc? That would be excellent thank you for all the great content and giving us a great venue for knowledge.
I have the same truck. I love the mods you've done! I assume you dipped to do the de-chrome? If so how did you go about the door handles and still manage to get the button to work? If you do the AHC sensor lift please do a video on it! I have lots of questions and would like to see a before and after!
Honestly, this is the stealth Land Cruiser that most folks won't know unless they are a Land Cruiser fan or from overseas. What you have with 33" tires is fine for literally 90% of all overland trips. Maybe add a 1" wheel spacer or get a wheel with a different offset to clear the wheel well rub. Mine is set up the same way and my AHC hasn't failed me yet (170k), unlike the rear air suspension on my GX. I do service the AHC myself every 45-60k with new fluids. Since it is already a heavy vehicle (6000# empty), you have to really consider the benefits of front/rear bumpers, RTT, etc... If you want to add more capability, you can add rear and/or front locker to compliment the crawl control/ATRAC without adding too much weight. If you plan to load it up, you can augment the AHC by swapping out the OEM soft springs with heavier duty springs (OME or Icon). Otherwise, I'd say leave it the way it is and see how capable it is without building it out especially since it is also a daily. If you don't need the third row, you should remove it and build out the rear to allow camping inside. RTT (hard shell or soft canvas) on the roof will drastically reduce your fuel economy, especially on the LC200. I got rid of my RTT and now just tow a trailer if the family is tagging along. Otherwise I sleep inside the vehicle. Plus you can go on side trips with the base station set up at camp. Once it is no longer a daily and you have figured out the vehicle's limits, then you can decide whether to fully build it out or not. Regarding fuel economy: on 33" tires, your highway mpg will still be decent (16-17mpg). With stock all season tires, I can get 18+ mpg on the highway at 70-75mph fully loaded with my family of 6+ and luggage. On 33" Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T on Tundra wheels, I get around 16-17mpg on the highway at 70-75mph. City fuel economy (12-13mpg) sucks on 6000# plus vehicles regardless of tire size.
@@landminehopscotch3617 I got the Metaltech coil conversion around 7 years ago with the Eichbach 2" spring. I believe they have a newer kit now. I also replaced all the shocks with 2.5" Radflo coilover and shock. I kept my lift minimal (
That's Awesome!!! I'd love to get the 18+ MPG you speak of. It's probably our crappy Illinois fuel! I have both 2003 LX470 and 2010 LX570 and get around 15 mpg on both (or less) regardless of road. Also, I believe the AHC system is the Achilles heel on these vehicles. I replaced the AHC on my 2003 470 with an OME/SLEE kit (It's Awesome!!), and have already had a pressure line fail on my 2010 570. Just saying I would not trust the AHC system for any serious off-roading / overlanding duties. There are too many points of failure. I want to convert my 570 over to a standard suspension. Does anyone know if they are available yet like they are for the 200 series platform?
Awesome 200 series. I would love to see the video of the work you did on it... including the de-chroming, any deferred and preventative maintenance and mods.
Stealth-wealth Landcruiser... this and the GX460... allows you to drive a LC without screaming "Landcruiser! 100k SUV!!"... blends in and nobody looks or cares... You even said it yourself "the new 300LC is not coming to America" when you know full well the new LX is 100% the same as the new 300LC! The USA is getting the new Lc300... it's called the LX
Hey man love the rig. I have the exact same spec as yours (interior/exterior) but a 2013. I'm looking to replace the factory 20s when the tires are done. How much of a decrease in mpg did you see with the new wheel/tire combo? I know the offset and tire will cut into it a bit but I'm trying to justify it. It's already pretty abysmal so what's another 1mpg or 2 I guess. Ha!
Did you just paint your chrome? If so, what did you use? Also, how did you get at those puddle lights in the mirrors? Did you have to take the mirrors apart?
So basically, you took a Japanese Rolls Royce and morphed it into a 4wd Bat Mobile. One mod I'd recommend if you go to the woods is changing white lights (associated with the doors) over to amber which won't attract bugs. My GX470 has amber on the inside, I just converted the running board lights and interior door lights. Incandescent amber looks better. 1st vehicle without bugs swarming inside while doors are open.
Great review Mike. BUT, you know we need to see under the hood! Haha! I actually didn't know that model had the 5.7L, I knew the older ones had the 4.7L and just thought that's what it kept. Dang! The 5.7L makes 383 hp and 403 ft-lb of torque, I know it's a heavy vehicle but that sucker oughta get up and run! Haha! Nice vehicle, got me thinking of one down the road. I have a 2006 GX470 right now, great little suv.
Just replaced my 210k Mi Lexus GX470 (I was an early adopter and lifted mine in 2011) with a low mile 2013 LX570. Personally I find AHC to be the best of both worlds sporty handling and lowered when you need it and lifted when offroad. Way more room and power! Just towed a buddies 26ft RV over La Veta pass and down thru Taos gorge- handled it no problem. Running 275 65 18 Cooper AT3'S which are a great al around AT Snowflake rated tire. Just waiting on some SLEE sliders and I'm all set!
@@J.Young808 I think the CBI parts were a one-off build for that project and CBI has actually left a number of 200 series owners hanging for months waiting for their bumpers, etc. Eventually refunding orders and saying they would no longer be making their parts for the 200 platform. Take a look at BudBuilt sliders 👍🏼
Welcome to the LX club! I commented on your vid with Kurt about these. I live in Ouray and am a fellow 2010 LX owner, wheeling mine hard all throughout Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. Couple things. To remote start, triple click the lock button, and hold the third. Memory seating does indeed change the steering wheel. Only thing I think you're missing, wheeling it. I know you have your 80 and Taco, but not wheeling these things even slightly is missing out BIG TIME! The AHC in the correct dampening setting plus the correct pressure= probably a better ride than the F250. Ive caught air multiple times in the desert and its freaking amazing. Also try to use all the ahc modes and settings regularly. I park mine in lo all the time. Check your ahc fluid too. If you're ever in Ouray with your lx, holla! Sorry that was long but I was really happy to see a vid on it.
I had a FJ Cruiser a few years back and after watching your channel and a few others I ended up picking up a 2015 Land Cruiser for a pretty good deal back in May. Ive been very happy with it, swapped the tires out for some KO2's and plan on doing some other modifications soon. Your Lexus looks pretty awesome by the way!
Happy to under-pay for my 2014 LX 570 vs equivalent LC 200 yet gain more/better features 😂 AHC is probably misunderstood in the community, but agree that for true Overlanders, having less complex traditional suspension that is in theory less of a liability in remote areas makes sense.
This is cool. I actually just replace my 2013 LX with a Sequoia, primarily to get a better third row/cargo setup and the slightly better fuel economy. I was able to swap the 33"/SCS wheel set directly onto the Sequoia too, which made it easy. The 2013+ had a few extra options that I liked such as the powered rear lift gate, front camera, facelift, etc. I did max out the AHC sensors to get a little bit of lift from the factory AHC system. Super simple mod; just slide the sensors to the end of the post. Solved my rubbing issues but it wasn't the 2" you mentioned in the video, more like .5-1" in normal height mode and leveled. LC/LX fuel economy is pretty much 15 mpg no matter what. Stock, 15. Lifted on 35s, 15. Sitting still, 15. I am really disappointed about the 330 series LX not having the split lift gate.
I think you can replace your grill with the Toyota Prado one from out of the country. Because these cars are in other countries and they don't have lexus there they have the same cars but only as Toyota.
I hope the 2023 Toyota Sequoia (based on the new Tundra) offers a TRD Off Road package. Boom, there you go, Land Cruiser. Same drivetrain, rear locker, MTS, Crawl, etc. America would have OUR OWN exclusive large luxury off roader.
This video got you at least one new subscriber 🙋🏼♂️Just picked up one of these myself and already can't wait for your next video on your LX. Also - did you post a video of your KC light / button mod? Cheers.
Yes the lexus lx is a premium recommended vehicle. It's the reason why it gets a slight bump in hp (like 3-5hp more I think) over the same year landcruiser. At least that's the case for 2013 lx vs 2013 landcruiser (which is what I have)
I came to the similar conclusion as well when I shopping for the V8 4runner and ended up with the GX470. Was cheaper, probably driven by grandma, and all the Lexus amenities with it's perks.
@@2theprelude I was gonna get a gx also but I didnt like how it ran like the top was heavy and unstable . I decided to get a 100 series lexus . The gx was better on acceleration but wasn't a fan on how it shared parts with the 4 runner .
Nice rig! I have a black 2011 GX460 that needs chrome delete badly! What did you use for the grill, door handles and window trim? Plasti dip, vinyl wrap, handle overlays? Thanks
My wife drives a 2017 gx460 the suspension on it (kdss) provides an awesome ride so I haven't wanted to mess with it but I did put Falken at3w tires on it and it does great on snow trails. Nothing like offroading in the snow while sitting on heated seats and holding a heated steering wheel. Lol
I can’t wait to own one, I love my paid off tundra but I’ve always wanted a LC. I’m going for a 2021 heritage edition or a 2 row 2021 LX, the biggest drawback of the LX is the terrible approach angle when it’s supposed to be an off-road vehicle. Yes it can raise the height but it doesn’t help much as far as scraping the front bumper, take it to Moab and the bumpers won’t survive.
I bought a 2011 570 last year. It was about 20% cheaper than a comparable 200 Series and it had never been offroad. I did replace radiator, starter and water pump. I added a Prinsu rack, rock rails, bumper front and rear, 12,000 lb winch, tire carrier, 10 gallon water carrier and 40 gallon LRA fuel tank. Maybe have a couple thousand over the stock 200. Great Truck!
I had a 2013 LX570, best car ever. I now switched to Sequoia as the 3rd row has more leg room, but once the children will start driving their cars I plan to get another LX - what do you think about the LX600? Is it as reliable as the LX 570?
Do you recommend getting Factory roof-racks or thrid party? And are "multi-terrain" and "crawl control" features a MUST HAVE? I am looking to buy a GX as a daily driver for the family with yearly road trips, and wondering how to maximize the car. (you found a great LX -super mint interior!!) Thanks
Hey buddy, you want to know something? You as a “RU-vid influencer” are part of the problem. Instead of buying it new for the GOD status that it gets around the world at it flagship price to keep it going in the states, you are one of those 99 percenters that say a 90k Toyota ain’t cool 😎. And instead OF buying it for the NAME, you get the Lexus version that is 10k or more cheaper. And instead of being happy with the equipment level of the Cruiser, you are drooling at the extra stuff that the Lexus has. Because of the few that Toyota did bring to the states, there was no way in hell that they were going to lower the price. And when it did come to buying used, you wait 10 years or so for those prices to drop. Even then you are still thinking Lexus or trashed version for 10k. Do not forget forget about the “mall crawlers out there. Since the harshest things that they will be going through is delivering snot nosed kids to school with the parents showing each other up, they want the low riding bling that Lexus and Land Rover provide especially with 20 inch plus wheels. With all of this in a nutshell, I am not surprised that Toyota dropped them off in the markets that do respect them from new. Think about TFL, they did not start saying anything until it was too late. Like Consumer Reports, they deal with the mainstream. Unless certain numbers catch their eyes, they do not care. I was shocked that they said anything…. Because they were never going to buy one. The only time they will ever touch one is when they review it. Like you they also itch and moan about the price. By the way, each of your toys are worth 20 to 60 k plus. Instead of blaming Toyota you could have bought one.
Don’t quote me but I believe 13+ has clips holding them on and you will have holes in the door when pulling them off. I have a 14’ and wanted to pull them as well. Some folks have filled them and painted but that’s too much for me lol
Sweet ride. I have an 09 and hate the cupholder set-up. I love the one you built. Will you be offering it or other configurations in your store? how did you attach it to the console?
Congrats on the vehicle. I own nearly the same vehicle, 2010 LX570. To me, it is the pinnacle of Toyota’s reliable, off-road heritage in modern skin. I was able to fit 34” tires with 0 offset wheels by raising the front end 1” with AHC adjustment, minor trimming, and a body mount chop. Looking forward to more content on the LX. What did you use to paint the grill and chrome trim?
great video, i recently purchased a '13 myself and this is one of the more complete walkthroughs ive seen on youtube, itll definitely help prospective buyers. gonna have to look into the tailgate light mod
It is basically a landcruiser, only it's better, more accouterments. That is 100% a toyota and anyone who tells you different is ignorant. Also it's not an AWD, it's a Full Time 4WD. There's a massive difference.
There's not a massive difference until the center differential is engaged. Full-time 4wd (with unlocked center differential) has almost identical driving characteristics as AWD, as explained in the video, haha
